El Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián ha desvelado la selección patria para su edición número 73, que se celebrará entre el 19 y el 27 de septiembre. El anuncio, como no podía ser de otra forma, se hizo en la sede de la Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas, en Madrid, donde se ratificó la participación de 22 producciones españolas –17 largometrajes, 2 cortometrajes y 3 series– repartidas entre las secciones oficiales y paralelas del certamen.
Tres de estos filmes competirán por la Concha de Oro, la más alta distinción del Festival, en una edición que sucede al triunfo de Tardes de soledad, de Albert Serra. Este año, los contendientes son Los tigres, de Alberto Rodríguez; Maspalomas, de la dupla Jose Mari Goenaga y Aitor Arregi; e Historias del buen valle, de José Luis Guerin.

Un Fantasma en la Batalla, a political thriller produced by Society of Snow filmmaker J.A. Bayona, will debut at this year’s San Sebastian Film Festival.
The title was among several other Spanish titles announced this morning by the festival.
Directed by Agustín Díaz Yanes, the film stars Susana Abaitua, Andrés Gertrúdix, Iraia Elias, Raúl Arévalo, and Ariadna Gil. Producing along with Bayona are Belén Atienza and Sandra Hermida.
The film’s synopsis reads: Inspired by the lives and experiences of several members of the Guardia Civil directly involved in the fight against terrorism and grounded in the historical, political, and social context of the 1990s and 2000s, Un fantasma en la Batalla tells the story of Amaia, a young civil guard who spends more than a decade working as an undercover agent within Eta, with the aim of locating the band’s hideouts in the South of France.

Arte France Boards Movistar Plus+’s ‘Anatomía de un Instante,’ From ‘The Plague’s’ Alberto Rodríguez
Arte France, the French part of the pab-European public broadcaster, has boarded “Anatomia de un Instante,” the upcoming Movistar Plus+ series from Spain’s Alberto Rodríguez.
The partnership marks an extension of the ongoing title-by-title relationship between between Arte France and Spanish pay TV/SVOD operator Movistar Plus+, owned by telco Telefónica.
Arte France has co-produced Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s “The New Years,” which world premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival in august company, alongside new series from Alfonso Cuarón, Thomas Vinterberg and Joe Wright.
Alauda Ruiz de Azua’s “Querer,” hailed at San Sebastian as the Spanish series of last year, has also been licensed by Arte France. Both series screen at this year’s Series Mania.
