After 20 years on the run overseas, small-time ex-criminal Johnny Spitieri (Spit) slips back into Australia on a false passport only to find himself locked up in an Immigration Detention Centre with a massive target on his back as old enemies come looking for him, determined to settle old scores. At the end of Gettin' Square (2003), Johnny SPIT was either flying to ltaly or Israel. Now he's back but caught up with Customs. As his name is flagged, people who thought him dead get wind of his reappearance and want to ask him a few questions. His old enemies get reacquainted whilst Spit becomes an unorthodox ESL teacher in detention. Friends, like diamonds, the long-lasting type, are formed by sustained pressure. And apart from flossing (the dance), mateship is all Spit has time for. He's helping his cell mates learn English, in the most absurd-vet-effective way, so they can work and join the Australian population. Johnny's past is revealed as he bonds with his sister and nephew when he gets out of immigration detention and returns to the Gold Coast. But trouble follows. Funnier than expected. Smarter and more heartfelt than most Aussie crime capers. And moments in the film that will make you laugh every time you think of it! We all know a 'Spit' if you live in Australia! We all love their nature! Quirky, fidgety, funny, edgy and savvy, you don't want to get on their naughty list, either! If you haven't seen Gettin' Square, you don't need to! It's a stand-alone movie with just a few nods. Or watch them both! They're really fun films! Back to me now, I've lost weight and have grown a beard since this film was shot, so it will be interesting how I turn out in the next upcoming features in which I participated! They filmed a pan shot of Crusher running in through the back door, where I twist around to have a look, but it got cut. I'm standing & pointing, though. Just goes to show how much work gets chopped out in the editing room. It's all about pacing in that little room. Long, dreamy shots of my bouncy curls slows the pace, too much, and distracts the female viewers from the real stars (that's how I'm feeling it! :) I hope a BluRay is released with all the cut scenes. Many of my set mates from The Bluff didn't make the cut at all.
