In the past years, there's been a rise of indie horror flicks impacting the movie business with their visceral violence, gritty imagery and unapologetic social commentary. Hunter, directed by David Tarleton and written by the movie protagonist Jason Kellerman is no exception.
This indie gem follow the life of title character Hunter, a former cage fighter who's homeless in the cold streets of Chicago after the murder of his family by the hands of some supernatural group of killers. Since the start, we're up for a horrific thrill ride. The movie kicks off with Hunter participating in cage fights. The action is kinetic yet the audience can tell any hard hitting blow in the short fights. An example of the great craftsmanship by the filmmaker right at the start of the movie. Same can be seen in Hunter's flashback, everything is fast paced yet crystal clear and the images evokes a wide range of emotions and sympathy for the title character.
I should've wanted a bit more of character development by the supporting characters, specially Danni, the love interest who shows kindness to the hopeless lead and Volakas, played by Nick Searcy (The Fugitive, The Shape of Water). No matter its minor flaws. This is a very fun thriller with love story elements that keeps the audience compelled by the mystery behind the main character's emotional issues and the truth behind his family's murder.

Not terrible, but kind of a mash-up of vampire and action. Found it really distracting that Jason Kellerman (whom I quite liked) is very Keanu-esque in voice and delivery.
Fantastic acting, great cinematography, and a story that kept me guessing the whole way through. I highly recommend. The movie really is a true gritty indie with a new take on the horror genre
I do not understand how this movie has a rating above 3. I watch tons of horror, of all budgets and studios. Everything is mediocre to poor. Music is blah and sounds like canned suspense music. Dialog is choppy and Soap-opera like. Constant flashbacks made me look down as it was giving me a headache. Very obvious why I have not seen these actors in anything else. Skip unless you are so painfully bored and want background noise while you do something else
The cinematography will give you motion sickness, every shot swings or shakes. The soundtrack is a medley of tunes stolen from soap operas and creepy metal noises. The actors try but lack emotion and inflection. If you liked Bloodrayne this might be for you. I just can't take someone seriously who kills with a vegetable knife. It's a good movie to laugh at though!
