I really loved it

I really loved it. I thought the show strikes up a lot of empathy between the audience and the characters, and I thought it was a great insight into real and genuine people's stories. I think it's a conversation that unless people are brave enough to rise, will remain unspoken. Bravo to the creators for the courage to tell their story, I was thoroughly entertained throughout and I definitely want to see more! If their independent content is this good, I can't wait to see what they do next :)

...

If film and television industry steams from empathy, and we lose that, what do we have left in art?

Visually stunning

I personally really enjoyed my time on set with Marshall and Sangeetha. Marshall and Sangeetha gave great direction, were understanding, and very easy to work with. I honestly wouldn't hesitate to work with them again - their team, and the other actors on set were great to work with as well.

There's a cliché that some or most indie films and tv shows are low quality due to their shoestring budgets and having the 'indie' title attached to their projects.

But broke actor as a series in my personal opinion, is a great example of the fact that 'indie', doesn't mean low quality.

Definitely worth the watch.

Refreshing and real

I really enjoyed this series as it was a fresh take on a swept under the carpet topic of casual racism in Australia. Being ethnic myself, I totally understand where it creators are coming from, it's the type of project that a lot of us can relate to without explaining much and also the acting was very natural and it felt realistic.

Oh, I also checked out the creators' social media and found out the story was based on their experiences in the industry. I saw a comment calling it 'self-indulgent' and 'whining,' but I suppose when you lack empathy or understanding of people's lived struggles, it's hard to understand.

I think also with this type of independent filmmaking, you rarely have a budget or means to do everything you want, but I think the series manages to do it well. Can't wait to see what these creators do next in the big leagues!

great balance between humor and reality

I just finished watching the full series of The Broken Actor, and honestly, I'm still thinking about it. It's one of those shows that stays with you-not because it's loud or flashy, but because it's real. You can feel how much effort and love went into creating it from start to finish. Every scene feels intentional, and every conversation rings true.

As someone from an ethnic minority background living in Sydney, a lot of the moments in the show really hit home. The characters felt familiar. The things they said, the situations they were in-it all reminded me of the stories I hear in my own community, or even parts of my own life. There's a quiet honesty in how the show handles topics like identity, career, family expectations, and just trying to make things work in a world that doesn't always see you clearly.

What really impressed me was how the series balances humour and seriousness. It's funny in all the right places, but also doesn't shy away from the tough stuff. The creators managed to show everyday life in a way that's entertaining but still thoughtful. It never felt like the jokes were forced or the emotional scenes were overdone. It's just life-awkward, funny, painful, and beautiful, all at once.

The last episode really stood out to me. It was deep, emotional, and surprisingly philosophical. But not in a heavy or confusing way-it made me think, and more importantly, it made me feel. That episode especially resonated with me because I've also worked in the creative industry across China and Australia. I could really relate to the themes about identity, performance, and what it means to stay true to yourself while navigating different worlds.

EYE-OPENING & HEARTFELT

An absolutely phenomenal series!

It was so incredibly heartfelt, eye-opening and inspiring, and something that spoke to me directly.

As a mixed-race Indian, English, Australian who has worked in the entertainment and fashion industries for many years, this series brought back memories of some similar challenges I faced, especially early in my career. It was an eye-opening experience, reminding me of those initial struggles and how much I had suppressed and blocked them out.

The final episode (7) really hit home. The scene where the person in the Superman hat appears, points towards and encourages the character on the verge of giving up. I was in a similar situation, even contemplating suicide, and had my own random encounter in the middle of nowhere, providing the encouragement I needed to stay the path. God brings you an angel at the right time, or a message that reminds you of your purpose and the importance of persevering through challenges.

A must see series and perfect reminder for anyone who has a dream in their heart and feels so far away from seeing it come to fruition. To keep going and know that the challenges you face only add to your story, build character and resilience, paving the way for a new generation and a much needed platform for the stories unheard.

Thank you for the moments of laughter, tears and hope, I was left wanting to see more!

Massive congratulations to all involved!

A Similar View of Life

I watched all episodes of this series, and I have to say, spectacular. Cinematography kept me captivated, down to the pure enjoyment of the script and the actors itself. My favourite being episode 6. It brought a tear to my eye, and reminded me of the starting of my adulthood, deciding to pursue a career in acting. Being an extra on set, every conversation I had, felt like the same as the last. But the 'pursuit' you can see in Marshall's eyes really explains it all and the message the series gives. This 'pursuit' led me to success in another career and I can say, that this series it not just relatable to acting but to many more challenges people experience in life.

Coming back to the message, I thinks it best to say the true meaning which I felt is, no matter what happens or what path you take, never give up.

Moving and relatable

Broke actor tells the stories of ethnic Australian actors trying to find work in the tough Australian entertainment industry. It is based on real experiences - at drama school, with agents, casting directors and on set. It provides a glimpse into the challenges actors face while chasing their dreams - as they deal with the frustrations of having to make a living with their side hustle, and the doubts of their loved ones. It is at times funny and sad, and is relatable for anyone who is working toward realising their own dreams. Marshall and Sangeeta are a talented and inspirational team who produced, wrote, directed and co-stared in their own work. They are making their dreams come true.

This film isn't just a project, it's a statement

What a powerful piece of storytelling by the team at NOAH Films. It's been a joy to see Marshal and Sangeetha grow over the years, not just in front of the camera as compelling performers, but now stepping into their own as visionary directors.

This latest work tackles the raw and often overlooked reality of discrimination in the acting world through the eyes of five unique characters. It's honest, courageous, and deeply resonant. The narrative doesn't just highlight a problem, it invites empathy, reflection, and conversation.

Congratulations to the entire team. This film isn't just a project, it's a statement.

Entertaining, well written and empathetic

Definitely recommend this to anyone! It is great to have more stories about the underrepresented. I am impressed how it was all shot with not much of a budget?!

I loved Eps 3, 5, 6 and 7 in particular. I laughed, gasped, felt shocked and irritated.

Wonderful storytelling, relatable experiences for many ethnicities and talented acting. It is a worthwhile 30 minutes to support such talent. It can be thought provoking to think about how this is still the Australian experience for many minority groups today.

Wishing all the best for all the people behind this project =) Looking forward to many more made by them.

A Bold and Necessary Mini-Series That Pulls Back the Curtain

This mini-series is a raw, honest, and deeply needed exploration of the racial stereotypes that young actors face in the entertainment industry. Each episode peels back a layer of the often unseen realities, from casting biases to the pressure of "fitting a look" and does so with clarity, heart, and courage.

The performances are compelling and authentic, with the young cast delivering not just strong acting, but also real emotion rooted in lived experiences. It's clear that this project was created with intention and care, allowing voices that are too often silenced to speak their truths without filter or apology.

What sets this series apart is its ability to balance difficult conversations with moments of hope, humor, and solidarity. It doesn't preach, it reflects. And in doing so, it gives viewers a window into a world that demands greater awareness and change.

A must-watch for anyone in the industry or anyone who cares about fairness, representation, and the stories behind the scenes. Bravo to the creators for this powerful piece of storytelling.

Best Web Series I've seen

Great cinematography overall and exceptional writing. In particular Ep. 4 RISHIII!!!! Awesome actor, massive potential, favorite ep. By far cos it had a good balance of comedy and drama. Special mention to Ep. 5 OMAR, one of the funniest eps I've seen in anything, brilliant comedic writing. I will say though, Ep. 3 EVA I didn't connect with this ep as much, content was a little bit eh but brilliant acting from Eva. As for Marshall and Sangeetha, really really good acting and direction. For Sangeetha's I really loved the scene with that dancing Indian guy and for Marshall, stunning visuals and action, just wish it had a bit more humour and didn't drag on as much at the end but it had a great message. Overall, this was TOO GOOD FOR A WEB SERIES, WE NEED MOREEEE!!! Great Work!!

A real, honest look at chasing a dream

Broke Actor is a real and honest series about what it's like trying to make it as a young actor. It shows the struggles; like not getting roles, feeling stuck, and trying to stay hopeful when things don't go to plan.

Each episode though short is so very detailed and gives a glimpse into the tough parts of chasing a dream, but also the funny and heartfelt moments that keep people going. It's easy to relate to, whether you're in the acting world or not.

The cast feels natural and real. You can tell they care about the story and bring their characters to life in a genuine way.

This series is a great mix of truth, humour, and heart, and it leaves you thinking.

Definitely worth watching!

Provocative reality

This project is a powerful and provocative reflection of a reality that many ethnically diverse individuals pursuing creative arts in Australia experience. It resonates deeply because it sheds light on issues that are often overlooked or underrepresented. I genuinely believe that embracing diversity will significantly enrich and elevate Australia's film and creative industries.

However, my constructive feedback to the creators is this: please consider incorporating possible solutions or even hypothetical resolutions. While the current project effectively presents the problem, it leaves the audience without a sense of direction or closure. Not all viewers will engage with the work analytically, so offering some form of resolution can help spark more inclusive and meaningful conversations.

Great idea, painfully average

As someone who is asian and wans to pursue acting I have had very similar experiences and thought the core premise was so exciting! But while Broke Actor aims to tackle the struggles that arise amongst ethnic actors it doesn't quite land the other components of what makes a compelling narrative. While it's based on the lived experience of it's creators it doesn't do much else than project the creators own frustrations at the industry. The series writing also could've leaned more heavily into it's satirical elements but decides to be more stoic in it's approach. It's frustrating because it's an absolutely great idea for a series and the pieces are there for some grounded and insightful storytelling but it really needed more polish and consideration before release.
