Honey Bunch

"Honey Bunch" is a terrific film I just saw at film festival. I really enjoyed it. So imagine my surprise when I got home and looked up the movie...only to see it had a miserable 6.1 rating. It is not bad...see it!

The story begins with a man taking his wife to an odd clinic in a house in the middle of no where. It doesn't look like a clinic...just an old Victorian style home. However, things just seem weird to the woman, who is there because she apparently was in a coma following an accident. However, there is MUCH more to the old house and the people running it...but I won't say more. Suffice to say, it's a real head trip.

While I will quickly admit that the film was overlong and could have used an editing, it's still an engrosing AND highly original film. You'll find yourself guessing again and again what is happening and why....and I loved that.

The movie I'm reviewing here is quite a unique one. It currently has no trailer, no poster, and it's Canadian. HONEY BUNCH is an old-school gothic horror with a great sense of humour. After waking up from a coma, Diana (Grace Glowicki) and her husband Homer (Ben Petrie) go to a trauma centre hidden in the remote wilderness to try to recover her memories. This movie is wild. It has a few jump-scares that I didn't mind. It leans into the weirdness. The writing is a little off kilter, but I think that's the point. It's about devotion, doing whatever you can for the person you love. I had so much fun with this one! The score is amazing. It properly builds. It stays interesting even after you know what's going on. There isn't much about this movie online, but I believe HONEY BUNCH will be released on Shudder sometime in 2026. Highly recommended wherever you can find it!

Just saw this at LFF and was utterly blown away.

I don't want to give anything away so I won't say much more than: this needs to be prerequisite viewing for anyone who ever wants to be in love.

In a world of red flags, hasty character assassinations, high intensity gender wars and confused ideas about masculinity, in walks a film that lights up the steep but oh so beautiful road ahead.

Everything one might say - so no pun intended as always. This is quite a wicked love story. Yes I am quite certain you can call it that. We are not sure where this love will take us - we can feel there is something off ... but we can't tell exactly what and in what sense.

We will find out eventually - the story is well told, well framed and edited. There are things happening towards the end where you'd wish a character to be more proactive to be able to prevent something from happening to another character ... one that you love nonetheless.

If you are forgiving the ... let's call it flaws and love watching movies as others love human beings ... ok maybe you do not have to go that far ... overall that is. Then you will be able to watch and enjoy this. Where is the love? Well ...
