The film was shot on location on the historic Independence Square in Independence, Missouri, which actually looks like that year-round. The locations that served as the Higman family's store and Norma and Nick's BBQ restaurant are family-owned shops in real life. The Square also does a Christmas lighting like the one in the film.
Chiefs players QB Trent Green, Mecole Hardman, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and George Karlaftis appear in the film, as well as Donna Kelce and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. Trey Smith and Matt McMullen also make appearances.
A movie-theater marquee announces two movie titles: "An Unexpected Christmas" starring Tyler Hynes, and "The Santa Summit" starring Hunter King.
The film was shot over a period of about 15 days on location in Kansas City, including three days at Arrowhead Stadium.
Former Chiefs running back Christian Okoye appears, buying merchandise, in the movie.
