Plankton: The Movie (2025) is a SpongeBob SquarePants movie from Netflix and it was very average.
Positives for Plankton: The Movie (2025): As an old fan of SpongeBob SquarePants, it was fun to watch these character getting into wild situations. The animation looks good even if I prefer hand-drawn animation. The voice actors do a good job here. The action scenes are fun to watch. And finally, the movie is short and didn't waste my time.
Negatives for Plankton: The Movie (2025): I don't like Plankton as the main character and he got on my nerves a lot. The movie doesn't do a good job at getting me to side with him and I was semi on Karen's side. The guy is so oblivious and delusional with his actions that I wanted to stomp on him. There is nothing likable about Plankton, so I don't understand why this movie exists aside from the obvious reasons. And finally, I didn't care if Plankton and Karen's marriage survived because they both suck as characters.
Overall, Plankton: the Movie (2025) is a harmless SpongeBob SquarePants movie and I'm okay with that even if I didn't give a damn about Plankton or Karen here.

Plankton wants to steal the Krabby Patty formula again and take over the world. It goes badly and Karen has had enough. She magnetizes the Chum Bucket which attracts all the metal in Bikini Bottom. She turns into a mega three-headed evil robot using all the metal to create a giant robot. In flashback, Karen is shown to be a calculator and a potato.
This is a Spongebob musical concentrating on Plankton and Karen. They used a variety of animation styles. It's interesting. The story isn't all that much. I'm not sure that it deserves a full movie treatment. I do like some of the songs. Maybe this is better as different smaller segments. It does run a bit long.

I wish I had of seen it before, Spongebob is funny, brilliantly creative and has some nice colourful effects that'll be enjoyed by the kids. The Movie felt fresh as a daisy, and Beutifullly colourful as a rainbow.
The creativity is great, the Karen Monster, the other worlds, the world that was destroyed, the humour and the colourful effects, which is what made it slightly enjoyable in that sense, because the world-building is great, and the other storyline is fine, some clichéd written words, but other then that the creativity and the humour is to be adored.
The story wasn't rushed, and the pacing was fluid and neatly done. Nothing felt too quick or too slow, everything was understandable and the story flowed well, especially under water. Although the final act could of been stretched more, as it did feel too quick, BUT as I said the rest of the movie was paced fluidly and calmly, not too quick and not too slow, just right.
The kids will love this movie, it's going to also be admired by the adults as some of the jokes were actually relevant to today, that's why they are good, and some are different which is great. Also this movie could of used Spongebobs friends more to do a musical, as most of the musicals were mostly fine, but they were better with his other characters, I just felt as if it wasn't as strong or represented the best of Bob, and Plankton.
I'd rate this film a 6 Because I enjoyed the effects, the Humour, and the story. But a few things could of been done to improve it in my opinion, But overall Decent fun time, and no more then that.

I used to be a die-hard SpongeBob fan - emphasis on used to. It's a show and a character that made and continues to define childhoods, including mine. Regardless of their quality, I watched almost every episode until 2021, when we got two spinoffs in "Kamp Koral" and "The Patrick Star Show." I felt pain watching the former's pilot and watched a few episodes before stopping the pitiful latter. If it wasn't the shows or the disappointment I felt watching "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run," it sure was the realization that the main show wasn't doing anything unique or fun anymore. That could be a symptom of growing up, but that was the final nail in the coffin for my perception of SpongeBob and even Nickelodeon itself. It's sad because, two years prior, I was still on board, having met SpongeBob himself, Tom Kenny, in a once-in-a-lifetime meet that same year. Circling back to "Plankton: The Movie," I would've skipped it due to its trash trailer. Don't even get me started on "Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie." The trailer was garbage, so I didn't think twice when skipping it. The reception afterward proved I made the right decision. I only checked out Netflix's second SpongeBob effort because I saw it getting a far better reception than I ever imagined, with fans saying it's the best film since the 2004 original movie. It's not. "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" is an absolute classic that, after years of thinking about it, I can comfortably say was the true ending to the show. Many say SpongeBob died once Steven Hillenburg left, and while it didn't end per se, it got weaker the more it went on, making that fun cinematic ride age incredibly well, at least in my head. "Sponge Out of Water" was a step-down but was highly entertaining. My mother will never forgive not having Slash in the film as promised in the trailers. As mentioned, "Sponge on the Run" was disappointing, mainly because it felt like the setup to "Kamp Koral" rather than being original. Keanu Reeves' supporting role was satisfying, and the animation was stunning. The only film that "Plankton: The Movie" surpasses that I've seen is the last one. That said, while it's not perfect, I'm surprised to report that it was decent.
To start, the voice actors were as solid as ever. The three that take up the most focus - Jill Talley as Karen, Tom Kenny as SpongeBob, and Mr. Lawrence as Plankton - made the movie more pleasing than it had any right to be, and I got somewhat invested in Plankton and Karen's dynamic.
Secondly, I laughed more than I thought. I expected to be dead silent throughout, with that one handsome Plankton joke from the trailer not doing this film any favors beforehand. While they're undeniably jokes geared toward kids, I giggled at many of the comedic bits. Some of them were unexpectedly more mature, which I admire. One had me laughing out loud, however. I won't spoil it, but if you choose to see it, you'll hopefully know which one I'm talking about.
Next, this movie contains numerous references to the show and films, and they didn't feel forced. Considering I haven't seen the show in years, I remembered what season and episode a callback was from very often.
For a narrative, while it has issues, it's not generic. Mr. Lawrence is a writer alongside Chris Viscardi, and they delivered something wildly interesting, especially when it comes to Karen turning evil and how that affects Plankton, so I appreciate that.
Finally, I saved the best positive for last: starting at 54:35, the following 1 minute and 48 seconds is the best part of the movie. You're welcome. Again, no spoilers, but I felt that was the perfect summary of what the overall film and conflict were about. Additionally, the film has moments that feature visually dazzling different animation styles that are welcome inclusions.
That leads me to the negatives, beginning with the animation. I don't want to say it's terrible because the crew likely worked hard to make it. I'll admit it looks odd almost all the time, and it may be since it's a downgrade from the animation in "Sponge on the Run." It would've been better if the animation was more akin to that or in a 2D style like the show or the first two movies.
Afterward, and I'm not spoiling anything, but I don't entirely like the direction they take Plankton. Plankton's involved with Karen's double-heel turn, and for a while, he acts confusingly. It's hard not to spoil anything, so I'll end this paragraph with one word: jerk.
Is it me, or has SpongeBob been too idiot for over two decades? My headcanon, especially after this film, is that the Season 3 episode "Squilliam Returns" was the day when SpongeBob became completely stupid. Man, he's super-dumb in this film, and I know he's been this way for a long time, but this was almost pushing it.
Lastly, I saw missed opportunities for visual gags. Many of the jokes would've landed better being accompanied by equally funny graphics. For example, there was an opportunity for an Imagination-esque gag that didn't happen. It could just be a me-thing, and it wasn't that big of a bother, but it would've been nice.
I'm flabbergasted that "Plankton: The Movie" wasn't near the worst thing I've seen. I thought for sure that this would be a total misfire. Its trailer may have been slightly better than "Saving Bikini Bottom," but not by much. As it turns out, it's respectable fun that may not be a movie the whole family can relate to per se, but you won't regret putting it on for movie night.
Technically, yeah, that's where we get into problems. The voice acting, screenplay, and occasionally unique animation can't shine through the rest of the CGI and the general unimpressive nature of the film, so the technical score is a 5/10.
The enjoyment score, on the other hand, is different. Younger audiences and SpongeBob fans will likely have a 9/10 experience, but will adults who aren't fans or were past fans themselves too? Not even close. Thankfully, it's never a miserable watch, and I think the enjoyment score is a 6/10. I'm glad it's not horrible; instead, it's a true delight!

How did Sponge Bob become established as a known staple? Unique artistry, witty writing, and creative characters. Each character is distinct. Sponge Bob is relentlessly optimistic and childlike, Patrick is loveably dim witted, Mr Krabs is all about the money, Squidward is an introverted sometimes pessimist who loves art, jazz and playing his clarinet, and Plankton has one mission- to steal the crabby patty formula.
After watching 20 minutes of this movie I was imagining things like a boss saying, "I want a full Plankton Movie Script on my desk by 5 o' clock" and this bland, uninspired mess was churned out. The songs are grating and miss the point of Sponge Bob. And the magic. There were so many interesting directions they could have gone. This was not one of them.
I suggest you shut this off and watch the Fry Cook games episode, or the Magic Box episode, or the episode where Plankton and Sponge Bob sing the Fun Song. Pretty much any of the early seasons and movie from the original creator. Not this sellout disgrace.

You know what, maybe SpongeBob movies from Netflix are not completely hopeless after all. Plankton The Movie might not be the best one, but probably the best SpongeBob movies in recent years. It has given Plankton his own movie and has handled the character very well. Sure, the plot can at times feel the movie tries to play it safe and the models can be a bit off. But the movie does make up for those for having great flashback scenes that gives growth for Plankton himself on why he started doing evil, good comedy especially from the snarks, a good amount of character development for the movie, some animation improvement, fun action, and some solid songs. I know that there will be those that want to watch this just to see how it improved from last time, and it surprisingly did. So I'll say this: Do you want to watch a movie about Plankton? I do think it will be worth a watch. Sure I know there's people that are tired of SpongeBob, but at least this one will be one of the better SpongeBob projects to get a good laugh. I'll be honest, I did have doubts for this at first based on my experience from Saving Bikini Bottom and I thought that was going to be how Netflix SpongeBob movies would go. But surprisingly, Plankton did manage to find a way to make his plan work for this film. Well, we are getting another SpongeBob movie at the end of this year. And it does contain producers involved with the first season. So all I can say is that Search For SquarePants better be really something great.

I liked that this time it was about plonkton, and karen instead of spongebob. He was as evil as ever but I am glad in the end we actually got to hear about their love story and that he didn't choose the krabby patty formula over her. It was really cool knowing their origin story. As for these other reviews, saying it was better than sandy cheeks movie, that is a different style, and just overall pretty alright as well with some adventure. This was a bit cooler for the fact it was about the most amazing guy ever, Plonkton! Knowing she has different personalities and that fight scene getting plonkton to her, was quick but nicely paced., we all wanted him to get to his wife already to find out what would happen next!

Great characters but really no story. Few laughs and just trading on their name. They can do better. Not much here to see unfortunately- Plankton was one of my favorites and there were so many laughs in the other movie this one really fell flat for me. Animation was good and good they focused on their relationship history but didn't such much that was redeemable in the movie. My kids liked it so maybe I'm the wrong demo but not much a parent can really enjoy here in this movie. I'd have to pass on seeing another movie which is sad as we were looking forward to this one. Maybe a chance for a reboot.

This might be really appealing if you are below the age of 6. We are introduced to characters as if we have never seen spongebob before and the humour is such that I am convinced the writers get paid everytime the viewer sighs or grumbles at it. And the songs feel soulless. It's heartbreaking as a big fan of the first spongebob movie and even Sponge Out Of Water: these movies felt true to the characters and are structured in a way that is not dissimilar to the show. I'm also not a fan or the art direction, this isn't something that is too important and I could have found it charming if it had an even an ounce of charm the above movies had, but the animation style ends up being the cherry on top of this dookie.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this quite touching portrait of a character we have known for a while.
A love story of the kind in which two people have been together for a while, there is a lot to unpack in this relationship with a very satisfying character arc and admirable they never compromise on Plankton as a villain. He isn't an anti-hero, he is a villain forced into temporary alliance and it plays very well.
Squidward gets cut a break and Patrick is thankfully de-emphasized but is still there.
The songs are alright, there are some super moments of humor and I loved a lot of sequences using contrasting styles of animation.
They do this thing with Sandy, Mrs Puff and Pearl sort of being a friendship group and it really works; there is the right amount of irony to pull it off.
I really am as surprised as anyone, I thought this would be painful like the Sandy Movie.
Better than Sponge on the Run but not as good as Sponge out of Water.

This movie is a fun and nostalgic experience, especially for those who grew up watching SpongeBob SquarePants. It stays true to the humor and charm of the series while giving us an interesting look into Plankton's world. I really enjoyed learning about Karen's origin and how she became Plankton's sidekick, it was a great addition to his character and added more depth to their relationship.
The musical moments were simple but entertaining, capturing the lighthearted spirit of SpongeBob movies.
The 3D animation is different from what I was used to, but it looked smooth, colorful, and visually appealing.
However, the script isn't perfect, and the humans acting at the end was TERRIBLE. It completely took me out of the experience. Despite that, it's still an enjoyable movie, and I would rate it 7/10.

This movie is much worse than last years The Sandy Cheeks movie. The storyline didn't even
move at all. It didn't give enough attention to viewers. There was too much between the past and present that I couldn't even understand the plot properly.
Last years film was awful that I rated it 5/10 but I rated this years film 1/10 and I was so excited for it to be released since it was announced. But it was terrible.
Based on Netflix track record, it ended up terrible.
If the film was still in the making and got released next year. It would be more time to think about the plot.
SpongeBob movies got worse when each one got released. Never listen to reviews which say it got better and is the best ever. It's actually the worst ever.
It's confusing me when Plankton wanted to take over the world in the film, then Karen said that too. It's really confusing me with who's the villain in the film.
When you watch a movie, you must know who's the main villain. Not mix it all up like this years film.
This film is absolutely not worth it. I expected it much better. Don't even rate it good.

While everything is very good, I really love this movie, the only flaw I hate about it is the fact they try to rewrite the lore about why plankton wants the Krabby patty secret formula, besides that everything else is really good, of course whenever there's a flashback, I feel like they should've went to more of the original cartoonist style because in my opinion that'd make it better, but it does have its good sides, its a really good love story about plankton and karen, and yes there could've been more characters used, its overall a good movie I really loved watching it, I'll admit it was pretty funny too.

Reality is this really struggled to be anything but a money grab to get children into the cinema
It was a fairly lame story that could of been good in theory but it fails epically
I mean Plankton could of been a really good movie about a great character but it felt rushed It's jokes were .. MEH.. at beast
There was way to much singing it definitely didn't live up to the other SBSP Movies
It drags on a bit at times again great for kids But it will struggle to get adults who will spend most of the time on their phones rather than watching this movie.. it' fails to entertain adult but easily entertains kids so feel free to watch.

In this new installment of the SpongeBob movie, we delve into the villain's experienced psychologist: Plankton.
A new threat hits Bikini Bottom, and it's none other than Karen, who turns out to be the biggest villain of all.
This new adventure will immerse us in the crazy love story of the villains of this show. Half of the music was enjoyable and the other half was terrible. A few jokes for adults and as an extra fact: a tribute to the classic Plankton episodes that we all remember.
I definitely recommend giving it a try, it's not as good as the first movie but it's certainly better than the last four installments we've had.

For 8 months I was so excited to see the film happen. After last year's Sandy Cheeks movie it was tremendous disappointment. Plankton had just got worser. Although I did enjoy the songs and the first 10 minutes. Then it was completely boring I was almost going to give up in the last 30 minutes.
I was going to rate this 0.5 on Rotten tomatoes and 1/10 on IMDB but we learned a lot about the relationship between Plankton and Karen. But that still didn't change the whole story. Well that part is enough to increase my review.
The boringness was well on top of everything. To explain a little of SpongeBob and Patrick, we all know they are best mates but when watching the film we barely saw them spending time together. So as last year's Sandy Cheeks movie. You can't leave characters beloved charecters such as Sandy, Krusty, Patrick, Squid wars and even SpongeBob behind the whole storyline. Based on Netflix track record of their animation films were off course. As they always have this problem.
Not recommended, SpongeBob fans are shocked of how the film has performed.

Well, it's better than the Sandycheeks movie. But then again, what the hell isn't?
For one thing, the animation is better. Most of the movie has a shadowless but relatively decent CGI style, with a few 2D elements like Karen's faces. Some scenes like flashbacks however go for a vibrant 2D style reminescent of classic cartoons, which is pretty welcome considering the abysmal visuals of th previous Netflix Spongebob movie. And a few scenes show live action for Plankton's hands; its funnier than this description I swear.
Spongebob is once again what drives the movie down. He's at his dumbest, so the other characters do the plot and comedic heavy lifting.
A somewhat tepid recommendation.

Spongebob is once again what drives the movie down. He's at his dumbest, so the other characters do the plot and comedic heavy lifting.
A somewhat tepid recommendation.

This is one of the best sponge bob movies! The Sandy one was by far the worst ever made (actually I never liked Sandy character very much so I hadn't my hopes higher for that one).
Plankton is a great character to have a movie about, he is the villain and at the same time he is funny and charismatic and I like when him and SpongeBob bonds together.
This movie deserves a higher rate it is way better than the sponge bob out of water (2015) and Sponge On The Run (2020).
This movie was entertaining to me as an adult and can easily be a great movie for kids. The other sponge bob movies were just very childish even for some kids (except the first 2D one that is incredible)

Has way too much singing!! Should have been advertised as a musical. Rather watch old SpongeBob episodes. Plus it seems like ever since the guy who made Spongebob died they just changed everything! I thought he didn't make Karen until he was grown and I thought he wasn't always evil. Like stick to the story line. I lost interest towards the middle of the movie, but stuck with it for my kid. My son didn't enjoy it much either, but at least it was better than the Sandy movie that came out not too long ago. Hopefully if they make another one it will be more like the original show when it first started.

Plankton: The Movie had potential to be a fun and quirky spinoff from the SpongeBob SquarePants universe, but unfortunately, it falls flat in almost every way. While the idea of giving Plankton his own full-length movie sounds intriguing on paper, the execution leaves a lot to be desired.
The plot is incredibly thin and feels more like an extended episode of the show rather than a compelling standalone film. Plankton's motivation - once again trying to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula - feels repetitive and uninspired, with little effort made to expand his character or provide any fresh perspective. The humor, which is usually one of the strongest aspects of SpongeBob, feels forced and stale here. Most of the jokes rely on tired gags that we've seen countless times before in the show.
Another major issue is the pacing. The movie drags in multiple places, with long, drawn-out sequences that feel like filler rather than meaningful story progression. The supporting cast, including SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, and Squidward, is severely underutilized, making the film feel oddly hollow. It's as if the writers forgot what made these characters so endearing in the first place.
Visually, the movie looks fine - the animation is consistent with the series - but it doesn't do anything to elevate the experience to a cinematic level. Additionally, the climax is incredibly underwhelming, and the resolution feels rushed and unsatisfying.
Overall, Plankton: The Movie is a major disappointment. It doesn't bring anything new or exciting to the SpongeBob universe, and it feels more like a cheap cash grab than a thoughtful expansion of Plankton's story. Unless you're a die-hard fan of the franchise, this one is easily skippable.

Just because its new does not mean its good. Heck its not even a movie or a musical. Its a bad spongebob episode that i've seen already, but for some reason the writers do not even know what a plot is. Who honestly sat back and thought, oh we need to make a movie about psychoanalysis for kids? What kind of literal dei Karen made this? The original spongebob movie had guess what, a PLOT FOR PLANKTON TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD. Instead it feels more like a clip show episode of Plankton's greatest hits but it did not fill enough run time so they added songs. Sure they are good, but none of them even function as a musical would. If its someone's first debut movie its phenomenal for a college grad. If its a actual studio creation its a pathetic attempt at beating Spongebob's dead corpse to gain clicks on TikTok with clips because that's the only way these scenes and stuff make sense. Literally watch it and ask yourself if it was just clip after clip of what might hold your attention for a few minutes. Who ever wrote this might be good in the future where s/he could convince people it was good because they saw it when they were kids.
