At the first sight, a pretty simplistic story, not exceptional acted, saved by cinematography, costumes and atmosphere. In short, a film based by image.

But it has a small , not insignificant virtue / it reminds, in fair manner, a real important truth. Not valuable only for XIX early century but for each time, that case when , after an intense moment of joy, the young man understands, under pressure of father, the social status of the girl who he loves, the fall of freedom after she becomes pregnant and the rules of a pragmatic time , when the name is more important than mercy.

A simple story, realistic at whole, using a case as large mirror for our reflection.
