Scott Phoenix was not originally scheduled to participate. He had retired the previous summer and had been serving as the play-by-play commentator for XCW television events. XCW was advertising the return of the Necro Butcher for the event and a mystery participant for the event. Fans expected Phoenix to be the mystery wrestler when it was originally planned to be the returning Drunk Adam. After Butcher had travel problems, Phoenix was asked to take his place just hours before the event was to start. Therefore, to start the show, Phoenix was revealed as the mystery wrestler, who then announced Adam as Butcher's replacement for story line purposes.
