I Nearly Shut this Off

The very beginning of this film is so slow I nearly shut the movie off. But then there was some sort of throwback to an earlier time and it was so over the top violent I kept watching.

It's a weird movie. Supposedly it was mostly shot in English, but it almost appears that some of the English scenes were cut into another film for continuity.

You have to give it to the Japanese that they seem to come up with some creative plot ideas. But don't be mistaken, this is a very low budget movie. Really a throwback to the grind-house flicks of the 70's and 80's.

It's not a great flick, but it's watchable and weird.

Quite out there, but entertaining enough for what it is worth...

"Gun Woman" is a fairly ludicrous movie in terms of the story, because it is so far out there, that it borders on stupidity.

The story is about a doctor whose wife is raped and murdered by a lunatic. Left for dead, the doctor recovers and eventually buys a drug addict woman in order to train her to become his tool for revenge, a trained assassin to kill the man who wronged him and took away his wife.

Yep, that was the entire storyline wrapped up in a few sentences. The storyline actually makes no sense at all, given the concept of it and the whole idea.

That being said, then "Gun Woman" is actually entertaining enough for what it is, even though a bit too much of the movie was spent on the assassin training sequence, which just dragged on and on.

The acting is as expected in a movie such as this, and with Asami as the lead role, you know exactly what you get. Hand on heart, then I found the acting to be wooden at best, and the dialogue is usually delivered in a nonchalant way.

While "Gun Woman" is not a milestone in cinema history, it is still entertaining enough for a single viewing if you enjoy movies that have no roots in realism at all.

Shout Factory Presents a Japanese Gore Film

A brilliant doctor (Kairi Narita) on a quest for revenge buys a young woman (asami) and trains her to be the ultimate assassin, implanting gun parts in her body that she must later assemble and use to kill her target before she bleeds to death.

Asami has really become an international star. She broke out in "Machine Girl" and has since appeared in "Zombie Ass" and "Gothic & Lolita Psycho". This may be her first title role, or at least her biggest title role.

As others have pointed out, the wraparound story is the weakest part and seems to be a plot device to have the film be in English (a wise decision). Does it help move the story? Maybe a little, but it could have been completely removed without much hassle.

Dread Central says, "A big part of this is the amazing score by Dean Harada. All synths and metal guitars." He may be best known for "Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf", which also happens to be directed by this film's Kurando Mitsutake. They are spot on. Love it or hate it, Harada just dominates this film.

James Marsh says the movie "rises above its budgetary limitations in suitably sleazy style". This sums up the picture. While it does have those budget issues, and tends to be overly reliant on nude women to tantalize the audience, it will appeal to the fans of "Machine Girl" and "Tokyo Gore Police", and before long the quality is no longer an issue.

Gun Woman

The Japanese are renowned for their whacky sense of humour, but they also have a darker side, or in this case a sicker side. Sadism, rape, murder, necrophilia, cannibalism? These are schoolboy jokes, not adult entertainment. Alas, all and more are included herein. The wife of a doctor is murdered before his eyes by one of the most degenerate human beings on the face of the planet; the doctor himself is crippled by the same lowlife but left alive so he can tell the world what a wonderful person his benefactor is. Not. He decides not unreasonably to exact revenge on this individual, and comes up with an extremely novel plan (one that is physically impossible in several ways). This is where Gun Woman comes in.

At this point she is his slave, but he promises her her freedom if she completes her bloody mission, which involves an act of mass murder, even granted that all those who are to die almost certainly deserve it. Can she really trust this man though, who murders an innocent woman in front of her eyes as part of her training? More to the point, doesn't the Doctor realise he has become what he seeks to destroy?

Any points this one gets are strictly for mild special effects, and a half decent soundtrack by Dean Harada.

The very first 5 minutes explains the rest of the film.

The assassin in the very first shot of the film is played stiff as a board, wearing a trench coat, sunglasses, a moustache... ducking and diving at nothing.. walking then stopping for no reason. He gets in a car and talks to his accomplice - who is as nervous and vacant as him. Then the rest of the film is basically riding along with these two people you don't care about as they tell a story...

The best actor/actress of the film is the main character "gun woman", and a villain or two. The rest of the actors appear to be friends and family thrown in to fill gaps at the promise of seeing a naked lady or guy.

A masterpiece of modern Splatter-action movie!

GUN WOMAN is awesome in every way. Despite the low budget, the realization is remarkable, as are the special effects. There are many scenes (often action or very gory) that are absolutely epic. The actors are very good, both in the action and dialogue scenes. ASAMI is great in his role. You can see the movie just for that reason! Finally, the script has some unexpected twists and turns that make you want to see it all again. There is also a real work on the details, especially those related to suffering. The atmosphere and events in the film are meant to be realistic and disturbing. It works!

It's a pity that this movie is not more known, it's original and extremely entertaining. Splatter fan, go and see it!

Deeper than it looks

I'm a little surprised because I see a lot of bad critics. I don't think you absolutely have to be a fan of Japanese gore movies to enjoy this excellent film. This is strange, gore, disturbing, ugly and violent. However it's also a deep, beautiful and captivating tale about vengeance but also and especially about humanity, compassion, and union. To me the whole point of the story is how two human beings can be bound by hatred, pain and emptiness and feed their relationship with violence and blood. It shows that love is not the only feeling that's able ton bring people together, dark feelings can also lead to a relation that's again more subtil, interesting and strong. Besides my interpretation of the relation ship between the two characters, I loved the ambiance, the filming techniques that make the film looks older than it is and create a unique estheticism, the amazing actors (especially mayumi and the mean guy) The uncluttered settings are also very elaborated and well thought to fit this plot which by the way seem very deja vu, basic and clumsy; however don't trust the synopsis which make everything seem simpler that it really is : the story is deep and full of facets, there are a hundred ways to interpret and appreciate Gun Woman. It has to be seen

Do not bother with this movie!!

What a lot of rubbish is all I would like to say about this movie. Bad script, bad acting, bad camera work. In all honesty not worth 1/10.

This film was clearly made on a budget using cheap equipment with no regard to camera angles being affect by incoming light from both the sun and set lighting.Continuity seems to be of no concern to the director. The story line is just that, a line. I cannot remember when last I have seen such a bad movie. All it seems the producers attempted to do with this film was create as much shock and nudity as possible. The idea of inserting gun components within the body that can be retrieved at a later date is just stupid. Not to mention that is cannot be achieved without scars being very visible on the body.

Boring gore movie that feels like it was written by 12-year olds.

The only good thing about the movie is that the first half was somewhat interesting and the very convincing pervert bad guy. Aside from that everything was a bloody mess (pun intended), the acting of the rest of the actors was terrible and the director was too artsy in a totally failed way. But most importantly nothing made sense. The reaction of everyone to anything in this movie was ridiculous.

I like watching b-movies for the fun of it, but this was no fun at all, because the whole project was being too serious on the subject trying to be something bigger than it is (I hope I make sense).

This movie wasn't worth my time watching it and isn't worth my time writing anything more.

Do yourself a favor, skip this one.

Ups The Ante For Assassins

A crazy Japanese revenge flick where a doctor loses his wife to a psychotic billionaire rapist. He buys a drugged out sex slave and trains her to fight and to shoot. Once she is trained her mission is to smuggle a gun into a highly secure compound and kill the psycho. The only way she can do this is by having three surgical cuts in her body to hide the gun pieces. She has to open the stitches once in there and assemble the gun. She only has 22 minutes to kill him before she bleeds out.

This is an extreme version of The Professional or Leon. Good effects all around with a definite grindhouse feel. Jumps between English and Japanese dialects. Tense as hell but the ending could have used some

one of the worst flicks I have ever encountered

this review is going to be very short

bad casting. awful acting. ridiculous story line. terrible tempo. and lame soundtrack. cinematography was OK, but that alone dose not cover up for the rest. dose not fit well into any indie category i know. just save yourself and don't bother with it. I managed to get through but skipping most if it. I know there is better cinema from japan, just wonder what the investors were thinking, I'm sure they are wondering the same now, loosing all that money. I just feel that who ever is making a film like this one is just insulting the audience intelligence.

Asami shows it all

By now for many lovers of the Asian horror Asami is the new Asian scream queen. I agree, I have seen a lot of flicks with Asami and my bond with her goes even further. A few years ago I had the opportunity to speak with her, well, not really because she doesn't understand and talk English, so her translator Kurando Mitsutake (the director of this flick) helped me out talking with her and agreed to take a picture with her. On her flight back it's were she agreed to Kurando to appear in his flick, Gun Woman.

Last year I saw Asami back again with Kurando to promote this flick and can be seen as extra on the DVD/Blu Ray release. I wondered how it came that this flick did had a lot of bad reviews. I did like it but I can understand the problem.

First of all, this isn't an usual Asami horror, this is more an action flick and Asami doesn't say a word here. Further there's a lot of talking and training going on which makes it rather slow for a lot of people. But if you can sit through that part you will be rewarded with gore and a lot of nudity of Asami.

Asami told us that she never had any problem with nudity which is normal if you see her past coming out of the Japanese porn industry, so here she goes the last 25 minutes naked. And by that I mean, full frontal, shaved and unshaved. So for those who wants to see her in full glory this is your flick.

The story itself is rather simple as it is a pure revenge flick but some will be turned away by the amount of nudity and the gory parts. There's necrophilia and rape going on by a man with a face you will never forget. And the way it was shot did gave it an extra perverted look.

Be advised that if you will pick this up that you will take the full uncut version as i did because Kurando has said it himself, it will be cut down in so many countries due the nudity and some gory shots.

Asian lovers doesn't be warned what this is all about but for the "normal" horror geeks please be advised that you are watching a Japanese flick.

Not really sure !

This is definitely a weird movie. I can't say for sure if it's bad or good, I just don't know. Its gory, a lot of nudity and 2 crazy ass looking people. At first I thought it was a documentary. And I thought most of the movie would be in English , I think it was in Japanese. Just watch at your own risk.

Hardgore 80s movie tribute, in the best sense.

The subjects of the story - and the story itself - are very compelling to watch.

Gritty, desperate action scenes serve as stark contrast to the narrators' mostly mediocre performances.

Great camera and effect work rewards the watcher while telling the admittedly complicated, but plausible, tale.

80s keyboards and guitars abound throughout most of the film, and there's even a montage to make you feel nostalgic.

The imagery is pretty hardcore, might even make you wince a few times.

You'll probably hate the main antagonist, which means he did his job quite well.

My expectations were exceeded, "Gun Girl" herself was fearless in the role, and I'll be watching it again, I'm sure.

Easy 8.

Average Movie - A look into how the movie is and what to expect

(This review doesn't summarize plot it is not what it is aimed at)

The movie doesn't feel like a 2014 movie but rather more of an early 2000's or late 90's.

The way the camera is used specially gives that feeling, the image just doesn't have that crisp quality and some shots are a bit pointless. The sound was bad at intervals, switching from scene to scene sometimes it was fine and sometimes it felt like it was recorded on a phone. Soundtrack further gives it that feeling out an old movie. Acting was average most times dialogue felt very stiff and with little to no presence this mainly applies to the side characters. Main characters were better acted specially "Gun Woman" she did a respectable job for the role.

As to the movie, its a bit all over the place its build up its going to be a little slow for some people, fight scenes are not 'that' great but perhaps take a more real approach that others movies exaggerate by adding over the top stunts and moves (so basically don't expect fight scenes like "The raid redemption" type). As to the goriness of the movie, yes there is a certain degree of it mixed in with a fair amount of nudity so if this is something which bothers you, maybe move onto another movie.

The movie gets more exiting after the first half but you will feel there is not enough character development for everyone except for 'Gun Woman' which we get told a little bit of her life but otherwise the detail provided feels minimal and you won't find yourself too attached to the characters.

Overall camera work is old fashioned, sound is average, characters are average, acting is on the low side on most characters and story itself is not bad just wished there was more depth to it.

So I think a 5/10 is a good score for this movie though i struggle at times to keep myself from watching something else i still found parts of it entertaining.

Quite graphic and disturbing

Described as a graphic revenge thriller, Gun Woman is essentially a combination of English and Japanese. Having no knowledge of this film and no expectations, this film was quite bizarre, graphic and at several times ultimately confusing.

Most of the film isn't in English and it was difficult in following as to what they were saying considering there were no subtitles. Although as we continued watching, we got a sense as to what was occurring.

Started off quite slow, but eventually the plot gets going around once our lead is introduced and we see her with the doctor mastermind.

The plot is quite silly and very graphic with a lot of blood showing from our lead, as she is nude quite a bit. The lead villain was quite disturbing as he does a convincing job.

Violence is top notch yet quite erratic at times. The pacing isn't great but the conclusion and finale elevates the film slightly.

Ultimately this isn't a film for everyone. Preferably for those who enjoy bizarre graphic Asian cinema.
