Knight Rider, the show about a talking car fighting crime alongside Michael Knight, is coming back. And this time, it’s a movie. But it isn’t returning alone. According to reports, it’s bringing along a few ’80s friends, including Airwolf and The Six Billion Dollar Man. That’s a crossover we’ve waited over 40 years for. Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, the brains behind Cobra Kai, are attached to the Knight Rider screenplay. But while that alone would make fans sit up, some of their plans might shake up the franchise. According to Tachyon Pulse Podcast, the new Kitt might not even be a Pontiac Firebird.

Even though The Waterfront seemed to be one of the more promised new Netflix original series of this summer, the streamer opted to cancel the modest freshman hit rather than giving it a second season. The Buckley family's dark and dangerous business dealings with drug dealers won't continue in spite of a chilling season 2 twist being teased at the end of season 1.
In the weeks following the show's release, The Waterfront season 2 seemed all but guaranteed. The series spent three consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the top 10 most-watched English TV List, and in the US, the show stayed put in the top 10 most popular shows ranking for over a month.

Despite spending five weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10 (including three straight weeks at No. 1 with over 11.6 million views), Kevin Williamson’s The Waterfront has unexpectedly been canceled after just one season by the streaming giant (via Deadline). The crime drama was centered around the Buckley family of North Carolina and garnered an impressive 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Released on June 19, it did pretty well compared to the other two dramas Netflix has canceled this year, Pulse and The Residence. Led by Holt McCallany’s patriarch Harlan Buckley, the series delivered a bleak, intense portrait of loyalty, desperation, and legacy. It comes as a shock that the show wouldn’t return,...

Exclusive: France’s Elevate Management is making some serious moves as the Venice Film Festival gets underway today.
The Paris-based company is rebranding as Elev8on Management and has signed Lovecraft Country and Dexter: New Blood actress Jamie Chung for European representation at the same time. Perhaps most intriguingly, though, it has also launched an AI-powered talent assessment tool that will look to redefine how American talent is likely to fare in Europe.
The rebrand to Elev8on is a “transformation towards sharper, more global and visionary positioning at the intersection of talent management, packaging, and strategic innovation,” according to company CEO Florence Lamy and President Daniel Blanc. They told us the ‘8’ stands for “continuous growth, the transatlantic bridge we operate on, and the infinite potential of the talents we represent.”

When "Scream" creator Kevin Williamson's latest television series, "The Waterfront," hit Netflix on June 19, 2025, it struck many critics as an entertainingly pulpy crime drama that would likely stick around for at least another season. The series stars Holt McCallany as Harlan Buckley, the patriarch of a prominent North Carolina family that essentially runs the fictional coastal town of Havenport. A couple of heart attacks have forced Buckley to cede control of the clan's various businesses to his wife Belle (Maria Bello) and son Cane (Jake Weary), but they have only succeeded in accruing crushing debt. So, Harlan risks his life to step back in and right the ship, which...

The Waterfrontcreator Kevin Williamson responds to the show's surprising cancellation with a heartfelt message. Debuting on Netflix in June, and consisting of 10 episodes, The Waterfront focused on the dysfunctional Buckey family and their fishing empire that almost doubles as a drug-running scheme.
With an impressive Waterfront cast that includes Holt McCallany, Melissa Benoist, Jake Weary, Rafael L. Silva, Humberly González, Danielle Campbell, Brady Hepner, Maria Bello, and Topher Grace, the crime drama seemed to be trending in a positive direction. It made it all the more surprising, this past week, when Netflix cancelled the series.

Netflix's Ozark replacement show has been canceled after season 1. The crime drama series starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, and Julia Garner ran for four seasons from 2017-2022 and is still considered to be one of Netflix's most binge-worthy shows.
Since Ozark ended in 2022, Netflix and fans of the show have been searching for a new original series that could be a worthy successor. While no true replacement emerged in 2023 or 2024, a new show released on the streaming platform in 2025 seemed like it might be the answer, although it has now been brought to a premature end.

Exclusive: Netflix will not be proceeding with a second season of Kevin Williamson’s crime drama series The Waterfront, Deadline has learned. According to sources, Williamson has told the cast about the streamer’s decision, and crew members also have been informed that there would be no Season 2, sources said.
The news is somewhat surprising because the twisted tale about North Carolina’s influential Buckley family did solid business, spending five weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10 for English-language series, including a rare three-peat at No.1, peaking at 11.6M views for its first full week of release.
That is above the delivery of another freshman drama series, which was recently renewed by Netflix, Ransom Canyon, which spent four weeks in the Top 10, peaking at No. 2 with 9.4M views for its first full week.
The Waterfront did significantly better than the two other dramas Netflix has canceled so far this year after one season, Pulse and The Residence, which both spent four weeks in the Top 10, peaking at No. 3 with 8.5M views and No. 2 with 8.8M views, respectively.
In their renewal decisions, Netflix executives typically lean into performance vs. cost, with other factors, like awards recognition, social media buzz and the type of audience tuning in, also taken into account. In addition to number views, performance includes completion rate, which is not made public. Sources close to the production told Deadline earlier this month that the rate for The Waterfront was good. I hear that Netflix didn’t feel that the viewership and the completion rate were high enough to secure a renewal.
Like Ransom Canyon, headlined by Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, The Waterfront, starring Holt McCallany, Jake Weary, Melissa Benoist and Mario Bello, is a character-driven family drama.
Unlike Ransom Canyon, which is a Netflix production — as is Forever — The Waterfront comes from Universal Television. It is unclear whether the streamer’s renewal threshold is higher for outside series; Universal TV scored quick renewals for its two most recent new scripted shows at Netflix, The Man On Inside and Four Seasons.
They are among the string of new Netflix scripted series to get a second season over the past eight months, along with the Warner Bros. TV-produced Untamed and Running Point as well as Dept. Q, Beauty In Black, Ransom Canyon, Forever, North of North, The Vince Staples Show, the animated Devil May Cry and Canadian entries Bet and Geek Girl. Overall, Netflix has renewed almost 20 scripted shows over that period.
The Waterfront‘s first season scored 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. Its premise: For decades, the Buckley family has ruled Havenport, North Carolina, dominating everything from the local fishing industry to the town’s restaurant scene. But their fishing empire has started to crumble as patriarch Harlan Buckley (McCallany) recovers from two heart attacks, and his wife Belle (Bello) and son Cane (Weary) venture into the deep end to keep the family businesses afloat. As their attempts spiral out of control and into treacherous waters, Harlan steps back in to take command. Facing her own demons, Buckley daughter Bree (Benoist) — an addict in recovery who’s lost custody of her son — finds herself entangled in a complicated relationship that could threaten the family’s future forever.
Rafael L. Silva, Humberly González, Danielle Campbell, and Brady Hepner also star in the series, executive produced by Williamson and Ben Fast for Outerbanks Entertainment, Michael Narducci, and Marcos Siega. Topher Grace guest stars.

A House of Dynamite is a Kathryn Bigelow-directed Netflix film, coming to the streamer on October 24, 2025. The film is poised to be an explosive (literally) action thriller. It will also be Bigelow’s first film for the streamer since Aurora was scrapped.
The official logline for the film reads (via Tudum):
When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.
Government officials must get to work and identify the culprit before the United States is hit with an even bigger threat. We can expect ample political tensions, high stakes, special operatives, and warring nations in the upcoming film.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s stint as a secret agent with family troubles comes to an abrupt end, as Netflix cancels Fubarafter 2 seasons.
It was big news when, back in 2023, legendary film star Schwarzenegger signed on to star in a series for the world’s biggest streamer. Fubar season 1 launched on the strength of Schwarzenegger’s name, and was an immediate hit, garnering 11 million views in its premiere weekend.
It took two years for Fubar season 2 to make its way to Netflix, and perhaps that was too long a gap, as the show premiered to just 2.2 million views, barely cracking the streamer’s top 10.
The show’s disappointing season 2 numbers convinced Netflix that Fubar is indeed Fubar, leading to the show being canceled (via Deadline). The numbers don’t lie: Fubar only made it to #7 on the Netflix top 10 English-language series chart its first full week, and made only one more appearance...

Netflix is going through another round of cancellations, and four different shows have been cut from the streaming giant’s lineup. Some of these titles had strong fan followings, while others never quite found their footing. Either way, viewers will not be seeing new seasons for most of them anytime soon.
One of the most surprising announcements came for Queer Eye. The hit makeover series, which has been running for years and made household names of the Fab Five, will wrap after its 10th season. Netflix confirmed the news on Instagram on July 9, saying, “10 seasons. Fab Five. One last go ‘round.”

Netflix has officially canceled Fubar after two seasons, marking an abrupt end to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first leading role in a scripted streaming series. The announcement came just hours ago, with its streaming ratings being cited as the reason for its cancellation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
An action-comedy, the series starred former Mr. Olympia and Oscar nominee Monica Barbaro as a father-daughter spy duo, working for the CIA. Though the first season debuted with strong viewing numbers, the sophomore installment failed to maintain momentum.
The second season featured him taking on an old flame, portrayed by Carrie-Anne Moss, who threatens to destroy his life and the world, face-to-face. Unfortunately, it delivered a performance so underwhelming that even enthusiastic fans weren’t enough to save it.

We have some bad news for fans of the action comedy series Fubar. Unfortunately, after two seasons, Netflix has officially canceled Fubar starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbaro.
Deadline broke the news late on Friday, Aug. 1, but fans of Fubar have probably been waiting for this news for months. We were just waiting for Netflix to make this news official, and now, it's here.
Fubar was one of the biggest action comedies when it premiered on Netflix in the spring of 2023. Netflix quickly renewed the series from Nick Santora for a second season before things got rocky. There was a two-year gap between the first two seasons of the series. When Fubar season 2 premiered on Netflix on June 12, 2025, it was a huge flop! It fell out of the Netflix Top 10 after just three weeks, which is basically the kiss of death for any Netflix original series. Netflix really wants their...

Jennie Snyder Urman is reuniting with another of her Jane the Virgin alumni in the law offices of Jacobson Moore. According to Deadline, Justina Machado is coming aboard in Season 2 of the creator's smash-hit legal drama series Matlock at CBS. She's set to have a big hand in the series going forward, playing Eva, the fourth ex-wife of Beau Bridges's managing partner, Senior, who may be planning some power plays of her own when she shows up in New York. For Matty (Kathy Bates), she may prove to be a complicating presence in her plans when the series returns to television on a special night on October 12.
Eva is described as a "formidable, smart, and ambitious attorney" in her own right, and she serves as the head of Jacobson Moore’s Miami office. She's also the woman who made Senior swear off marriage altogether. In Season 2, an emergency meeting...

“Matlock” has added a fresh but familiar face to its Season 2 cast. “One Day at a Time” and “Pulse” star Justina Machado will recur on the CBS legal drama.
The actress will play Eva, “a formidable, smart and ambitious attorney” who happens to be the fourth ex-wife of Jacobson Moore managing partner Howard “Senior” Markston (Beau Bridges). She runs the firm’s Miami offices and comes to New York for an emergency meeting, which she uses as an opportunity to advance her own career ambitions.
The casting reunites Machado with “Matlock” showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman, as the duo previously collaborated on The CW drama “Jane the Virgin.” The actress also recently starred in “The Horror of Dolores Roach” at Amazon.
“Matlock” follows Madeline “Matty” Matlock (Kathy Bates), who infiltrates the firm Jacobson Moore in an effort to investigate a previous case with which she has a personal connection. As her mission unfolds,...

Exclusive: Amid a resurgence of medical dramas across broadcast and streaming, Amazon is taking a stab at the genre with God Complex. The project, now in development, comes from Found co-showrunner Sonay Hoffman and Tommy Benjamin, who have partnered to launch a company, Story Well Pictures. God Complex centers on Gabriel, a revered neurosurgeon who sacrifices himself to a grieving gunman denied care. Now separated, they must navigate the fallout—professional, personal, and political—while saving lives in a broken system that nearly cost them everything.

Apple TV+ will premiere its upcoming limited series The Savant on Friday, September 26, with the release of two episodes. New episodes of the Jessica Chastain-led series, which she also executive produces, will air every Friday through November 7.

The 8-episode TV series is inspired by the true story published by Cosmopolitan in 2019, written by Andrea Stanley. Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2024 Venice Film Festival. Sideshow/Janus Films releases “Cloud” in select theaters Friday, July 18, 2025.
An action film as only “Cure” and “Pulse” director Kiyoshi Kurosawa would think to make one, “Cloud” leverages the social disaffection at the heart of his analog horror masterpieces into a sterile — but eventually bullet-filled — morality tale about the dehumanizing nature of digital communication. The first hour is a slow accumulation of the petty crimes (and other various insults) that the internet allows people to commit against one another from a distance, and with the benefit of anonymity. The second hour observes what happens when those petty crimes reach a critical mass, and the animus that’s been welling up on social media spills into the real world with the deadly force of a double-barreled shotgun.
If Kurosawa’s work has long displayed a morbid fascination with...

Netflix has pulled the plug on several popular series in 2025, leaving some viewers disappointed. From gripping mysteries to spy thrillers and even hit sports documentaries, the streamer has pulled the plug on multiple fan-favorite shows. Even critically praised shows weren’t safe if the viewership didn’t hit the mark fast enough. While multiple Netflix shows are gearing up for their season finale in 2025, there are a few shows that are silently getting cancelled by Netflix due to low viewership.
Whether the stories wrapped up clearly or have an open ending, fans are left with lingering questions and an empty watchlist. We’ve broken down how it ended and why Netflix decided to cancel it. Here’s a closer look at the popular Netflix shows cancelled in 2025.

Netflix has released its semiannual viewing report for the first half of 2025, with a breakout hit that originated outside the U.S. topping the series rankings.
It’s not Squid Game — at least not according to the way Netflix ranks its programming. Adolescence, the critically acclaimed U.K. limited series that earned 13 Emmy nominations earlier this week, takes the crown with 144.8 million views worldwide since its March 13 premiere.
Squid Game is not far behind, however. Season two of the Korean thriller, released in the last week of 2024, is second among all series with 117.3 million views from January to June. The third and final season is one spot back with 71.5 million views, despite having premiered just four days before the close of the half-year.

We're over halfway through 2025, and we've seen a ton of great new and returning Netflix shows, including Adolescence, Squid Game season 3, Ginny and Georgia season 3, Ransom Canyon, The Night Agent season 2, and many more.
Unfortunately, not all of the new Netflix shows of the year have been destined for greatness. Netflix has already canceled four shows in 2025 so far. There are probably a few more about to get the ax, too.

Unfortunately, not all of the new Netflix shows of the year have been destined for greatness. Netflix has already canceled four shows in 2025 so far. There are probably a few more about to get the ax, too.

Netflix has given us some unforgettable series over the years, but let’s be honest, the streaming giant also has a frustrating habit of pulling the plug way too early. With all the cancellations, it makes you question whether it’s even worth getting invested in a new show anymore.
Nobody wants to pour time and emotions into a series only to have it end abruptly without closure. You’re left hanging with unanswered questions, unresolved storylines, and a lingering sense of “what could have been.” In this article, we're discussing three Netflix shows that deserved so much more time to develop, grow, and ultimately, last longer than they did.
(L to R) Imani Lewis as Calliope, Sarah Catherine Hook as Juliette in episode 105 of First Kill | Netflix First Kill (2022)
The queer community will understand where I'm coming from when I say First Kill's cancellation felt like a punch to the gut.

There’s a specific kind of Japanese horror that just feels really cozy to me. It’s often rural, punctuated by the cacophonous buzzing of cicadas, and more often than not centered around some kind of unspoken curse. I love the lore of it all and the sheer commitment to history. Where most Western horror releases tend to overexplain their scares, J-horror in particular throws audiences right into the middle of it. It’s matter of fact, simply there to be reckoned with or overcome.
Higurashi: When They Cry might be the definitive anime example of what I mean, though live-action Japanese horror movies work much the same. The Grudge, Dark Water, and Pulse have deep mythos that might alienate some viewers, but wisely don’t take the remaining audience for granted. They’re great, cozy scares, and I can say with full confidence that Netflix just stealthily dropped your latest horror obsession.

Netflix has decided to cancel two of its newer series, Pulse and The Residence, both of which only made it through one season. The news comes from Deadline, who reported that viewership just wasn’t strong enough to justify keeping them on the platform.
The Residence was released on March 20 and starred Uzo Aduba, known from Orange is the New Black. She played a detective investigating a murder that happened during a White House state dinner.
The mystery show had a light tone despite the murder theme, and it got pretty good feedback. Rotten Tomatoes gave it an 85% critics score and a 78% audience score. That’s actually higher than what Squid Game received.
But the series had one big problem: it was expensive to make. Deadline says it might have been the most costly White House set ever built for TV, which made a second season unlikely.

Netflix has pulled the plug on two of its newer shows, Pulse and The Residence, after just one season. Even though both series had some early promise, they couldn’t gather enough attention or strong viewership to survive. The cancellations were first reported by Deadline.
The Residence came out on March 20 and stars Uzo Aduba, best known from Orange Is the New Black. She plays a detective looking into a murder that takes place during a fancy state dinner at the White House.
The show was meant to be a fun mystery with a political twist and had some solid reviews. It holds an 85% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience score of 78%. That’s even better than the scores for hits like Squid Game.
But the show’s production was expensive. According to Deadline, it’s believed to be one of the most costly White House recreations ever made.

The Netflix medical drama "Pulse" seemed poised for success when it was first announced. Who wouldn't want to watch Willa Fitzgerald (of "Reacher" and "The Fall of the House of Usher" fame) try to survive her job at a Florida trauma center? Yes, the format of the show seemed a little similar to previous hit series like "Grey's Anatomy" and "ER," but by early 2025, both of those shows were firmly out of the limelight. As such, "Pulse" appeared to be filling a new hole in the TV landscape; the apparent logic over at Netflix was that it had a surefire hit on its hands, just so long as no other streaming service released its own hard-hitting medical drama around the same time.
Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened. In January 2025, three months before "Pulse" dropped, HBO Max released the first episode of "The Pitt." The show quickly took off, garnering mass...

The Residence is not extending its residence at Netflix.
On Wednesday, the streamer canceled a pair of freshman series: medical drama Pulse and The Residence. Critically-speaking, Pulse had basically no, well, pulse from the get-go — but The Residence was generally well-reviewed.
Both shows, meanwhile, faired pretty well in terms of viewership. With just four days of availability during the week ended March 23, 2025, The Residence (released March 20) debuted as Netflix’s number two show, trailing only the juggernaut that was Adolescence. The standings repeated the following week, and though The Residence began to slip after that, it remained in the top 10 for two more weeks.
One of the shows that first pushed The Residence down Netflix’s list was Pulse, which premiered on April 3, 2025; both series would spend four weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Shows chart. Adolescence lasted twice a long, and is Netflix’s second-most-watched English-language TV show of all time.
