Samara Weaving plays a pop star whose home is invaded by an obsessed fan in Borderline, an upcoming action-comedy thriller being described as a "violently romantic comedy." Judging from the film's first trailer, this is certainly a spin on the traditional rom-com for fans looking for something a bit more offbeat. Check out the trailer below.

Written and directed by Jimmy Warden, who scripted 2023's comedy horror film Cocaine Bear, Borderline stars Weaving as Sofia, a pop star who sees her home invaded by an obsessed fan named Paul (Ray Nicholson). The fan is convinced that the pair are meant to not only be together but also be married, and he plans to manipulate Sofia into succumbing to his delusions. The film also stars Eric Dane, Alba Baptista and Jimmie Fails.

Warden marks his directorial debut with Borderline, and it does look like a fun, albeit demented, piece of work.

The jury for European Shooting Stars, the program that promotes rising actors from Europe, has revealed its 2025 lineup. Shooting Stars from previous editions have included Riz Ahmed, Leonie Benesch, George MacKay, Carey Mulligan, Alba Rohrwacher, Bill Skarsgård, Alicia Vikander and Maisie Williams.

The actors will be presented to the international press, film industry and public during the 75th Berlinale, which runs Feb. 13 – 23. They will take part in a tailor-made, four-day program that will culminate with an awards ceremony on Feb. 17 at the Berlinale Palast. The program is organized by European Film Promotion and is supported by Creative Europe’s Media Programme of the European Union.

The 10 actors selected for its 28th edition are Marina Makris (Cyprus), Besir Zeciri (Denmark), Maarja Johanna Mägi (Estonia), Devrim Lingnau (Germany), Elín Hall (Iceland), Kārlis Arnolds Avots (Latvia), Šarūnas Zenkevičius (Lithuania), Lidija Kordić (Montenegro), Vicente Wallenstein (Portugal) and Frida Gustavsson (Sweden).

Rawson Marshall Thurber, who directed “Red Notice” for Netflix, will direct the “Voltron” film and wrote the script with Ellen Shanman based on the popular ’80s anime series. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

Thurber previously shared a video message with Voltron fans during VoltCon in which he said: “I want to make sure that we stay true to the heart and the spirit of Voltron. If you’ve been following The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast, you’ve known that one third of The Lonely Island, Jorma Taccone, has been absent for the last few weeks while shooting a movie in Finland. Details of that movie have finally been announced.

Taccone will direct “The Trip,” a thriller and comedy film that stars Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Juliette Lewis, and Timothy Olyphant, it was announced on Tuesday, November 19. Filming is currently taking place in Tampere, Finland and has been ongoing since October 23. Paul Guilfoyle and Keith Jardine also co-star.

This is Taccone’s first feature behind the camera since 2016’s “Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping,” which he co-directed with Akiva Schaffer. For this one he’ll partner with the team behind “The Fall Guy,” David Leitch and Kelly McCormick’s 87North production banner, and XYZ Films.

No distributor is attached for the film.

Actor John Ashton, best known for the action-comedy Beverly Hills Cop franchise, has passed away. Ashton’s rep has issued a statement confirming his passing. He was 76 at the time of his death.

Ashton’s Family Has Asked For Donations In His Honor

In a statement with TMZ, Ashton’s rep Alan Somers confirmed he had passed away this past Thursday in Ft. Collins, Colorado. He was battling cancer at the time of his death.

According to the publication, Somers issued the following statement, “John leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, children, grandchildren, as well as his brother, sisters, his extended family and all who loved him. John’s impact on the world will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.”

The publication noted that Ashton’s family any donations made be used for Pathways Hospice Care.

John Ashton, known for playing John Taggert in Beverly Hills Cop and two sequels, has died. He was 76.

Ashton died Thursday in Fort Collins, Colorado, after a brief battle with cancer, his manager, Alan Somers, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Ashton’s Detective Sergeant Taggart appeared in the first two Beverly Hills Cop movies in 1984 and 1987 alongside Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold. He returned as the character — now promoted to police chief — in 2024’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

Ashton also appeared in films and TV shows that spanned more than a half-century, including 1973’s An Eye for an Eye, 1974’s So Evil, My Sister, 1976’s Cat Murkil and the Silks, 1979’s Borderline and 1981’s Honky Tonk Freeway.

More recently, he had roles in 2006’s Sweet Deadly Dreams, 2007’s Gone Baby Gone, 2009’s Middle Men and 2023’s Lonesome Soldier. On television, he guest starred on Columbo, Police Story, Barnaby Jones and M*A*S*H.
