Satisfaction

Satisfaction is an emotional knockout.

Satisfaction is an emotional knockout. Emma Laird crushes it, delivering a performance that's raw, real, and impossible to look away from. Alex Burunova's direction is fearless, pulling you into a world, where every frame feels intentional, every moment lingers. The way the film explores resilience as a woman? It's gut-wrenching and deeply cathartic. The cinematography is stunning, the music lingers in your bones, and that Greek island backdrop is pure poetry. This isn't just a film-it's an experience. I felt seen and understood in a topic that is almost completely neglected in film but all too common in women's lives. I won't stop thinking about it anytime soon.

Waiting for an explosion that ....

I saw this film at SXSW yesterday and during opening remarks from the filmmaker to 'let the film slowly wash over you' could not have been more appropriate. The outline here on iMdB sets the outline of the plot so no reason to repeat this.

The cinematography, acting, location (as noted on Greek island), music are all top notch. To echo the filmmaker indeed this is a slow burn that as the film progresses you begin to ask the obvious, hum how will this end?

It is very hard to describe the underlying pain the main female character, Lola, is experiencing without giving more away but there is one critical scene where the emotions on her face say it all. For her sake I pray this was shot with minimal takes.

An explosion does finally come but is one of beauty so do let this film wash over you.

A Stunning Film with a Powerful, Subtle Ending

I absolutely loved Satisfaction! I watched it at SXSW and was completely taken by the film's stunning visuals-every frame feels like a work of art. The cinematography beautifully captures Lola's world, while the sound and music made me truly feel what she hears and what she's trying to express deep in her mind. The movie seamlessly unfolds her journey, adding layers of emotion and depth. As a female composer, I also related to the ending - it was such a subtle yet powerful moment. That restart felt incredibly real, both for her independence and her music. The film resonated with me in so many ways, and I can't recommend it enough!

Satisfaction is a quietly magnetic film

Satisfaction is a quietly magnetic film that pulses with emotional depth and artistic flair. Alex Burunova crafts a story that feels both personal and expansive, drawing you into moments that are at once raw, tender, and contemplative. With striking visuals and a poetic rhythm, the film doesn't rush to explain itself-it invites you to feel your way through it. The performances are subtle yet powerful, grounding the film's more abstract layers in genuine human emotion. It's the kind of story that leaves space for reflection and stays with you long after it ends. Amazing directing, actors and cinematography!

Very important and beautiful film

You know it is a great movie when it stays with you...I cannot stop thinking about this film. I watched it at SXSW and I am still unpacking all the layers and the depths of that film. So beautiful, so heartbreaking and so healing at the same time. They don't make movies like this anymore which saddens me. This is true cinema and one that can make a positive change for many people. I do not want to give away the twist but I will only say this is a very important film for women. I want all my girlfriends to see it. And actually all men also should see it. The Director created such an important film which will stay with me forever.

This movie should be required reading for all young men

Satisfaction feels to me like something that should be required reading for every person, but especially young men entering into high school and men in general. It's been a while since a film has actually made me feel anything at all and I might have forgotten how powerful films can actually be when they're done right. Stories are everything and I was reminded of why telling meaningful stories is so important! Also the lighting videography and direction was engaging And kept me curious throughout. I love the color work and pace of the film highly recommend especially if you're a guy! Additionally, I have never really seen a film that explored Power dynamics so well! The film caught me off guard and I'm grateful for that!

A Jaw Dropping Debut film

Burunova knows exactly what she's doing. She masterfully crafts a narrative that allows the story and performances to breathe, demonstrating a deep trust in the audience's ability to absorb the subtle nuances within each scene. Her direction builds tension effortlessly, creating an experience that is both gripping and immersive.

This is also one of the most gorgeous films I've seen in recent years. The cinematographer Máté Herbai elegantly carves with light and framing, capturing each moment with precision. His work beautifully complements the film's intimacy, enhancing its emotional depth and shifting moods.

A powerful, intimate feat

Had the pleasure of seeing this film -- and hearing it -- at SXSW. It's a movie that stays with you, isn't afraid to trust the audience to go on the journey. The cinematography is stunning, unwavering and set up as if each shot is its own piece of art. The performances are commanding, patient and do not look away from the ugliest parts of ourselves. I think it could have so easily swung into the melodramatic or waring, but instead it is the restrained performances, particularly of Emma Laird who plays Lola, that carries us through. I want to spend a season on a Greek island like this one, but not like this. Will be watching again. Bravo.

Honestly, a poem of a film. Must watch.

This is the most sensitive, moving, and relevant film I've seen in a while. It doesn't just tell a story, it pulls you into its world and refuses to let go. The director/writer is clearly inspired - the story feels real, raw, something that can actually happen to everyone and certainly has happened to many. The film doesn't judge, which is so interesting and really rare in movies of its genre, it just offers the story and invites you to feel it / think for yourself. Emma Laird is simply WOW, the cinematography and music are beyond words. Congrats to the director/writer. Honestly it is a must watch.

Satisfaction captures the art of becoming so beautifully

WOW. Satisfaction was so satisfying. The movie is set on the dreamy Greek islands where an emotional story unfolds about a woman named Lola, who's totally lost in her own world. There are themes of intimacy, identity, and creative silence, all with a bold, sensual edge. Emma Laird as Lola is amazingly subtle yet so powerful. The tension, the chemistry, and the way things spiral all feels so real and intense. The whole vibe of the film feels fresh and honest in a way you don't see often. It's bold, it's vulnerable, and it sticks with you. I'll be thinking about this movie for the rest of my life. Alex Burunova has a unique voice as a filmmaker. I can't wait to see what she dreams up next.

No Easy Answers

Emma Laird is phenomenal. She doesn't perform so much as exist on screen - every glance, every pause, every shift in her body carries weight. There's a storm constantly building behind her eyes, and she somehow manages to hold it in without ever feeling distant. It's the kind of performance that pulls you in and quietly wrecks you.

Fionn Whitehead matches her with a kind of understated vulnerability that adds even more tension to their dynamic. The chemistry is raw, complicated, and at times hard to watch - in the best way.

And the ending? It leaves you with a knot in your stomach and a million questions. It's not about clarity - it's about sitting with the discomfort.

Alex Burunova is a filmmaker in full command of her voice - precise, fearless, and unafraid to live in the gray. Satisfaction doesn't offer closure - it offers honesty. And it stays with you.

Everyone should see this beautiful masterpiece

I saw Satisfaction at a screening and was brought to tears. Director Alex Burunova is a master of her craft, coaxing incredible performances out of her top notch cast and mixing poignant storytelling with stunning visuals to create a movie that has left an imprint on my heart.

The challenging subject matter is handled with care and respect, and the musical score could be a character of its own. It's hard to find words for how impressive this film is!

The film's protagonist, Lola, is unforgettable. Her story is both relatable and exotic, and the chemistry she has with her co stars is electric.

The Power of Silence in Satisfaction

No over-explaining, no unnecessary exposition-just pure, confident storytelling. Burunova understands that cinema is at its most powerful when it allows the audience to engage, interpret, and feel without being spoon-fed. Instead of forcing explanations, she lets the story breathe, using atmosphere, glances, and unspoken moments to communicate just as much as-if not more than-dialogue ever could.

Many films fall into the trap of over-explaining their themes, afraid that viewers won't "get it" unless every detail is spelled out. Satisfaction takes the opposite approach, trusting that the audience will pick up on the subtleties-the shift in body language, the weight of a pause, the tension in a moment of silence. It's a refreshing and rare kind of filmmaking, one that rewards patience and attention to detail.
