A book has been written by the two journalists who uncovered the true case of Belle Gibson; "The Woman Who Fooled The World: the true story of fake wellness guru Belle Gibson".
Kaitlyn Dever took the part of Belle Gibson in order to pay tribute to her mother, who passed away from breast cancer in February 2024.
The character of Milla Blake seems to be modeled from the real life influencer Jessica Ainscough (15 July 1985 - 26 February 2015) An Australian teen magazine editor who became a writer and wellness entrepreneur after turning her back on the prescribed treatment for a rare cancer, epithelioid sarcoma, which she was diagnosed with at the age of 22. Ainscough went by the self-coined nickname "The Wellness Warrior" and used her popular blog by the same name to share her personal story of using alternative cancer treatments. Ainscough began using Gerson Therapy, an alternative cancer treatment from the 1920s. Gerson Therapy is similar to the portrayed, Hirsch treatments on Apple Cider Vinegar, followed by the Milla Blake character.
