I recently watched "In His Mother's Eyes," and I must say, the movie's narrative struck a chord with its poignant portrayal of the challenges faced by OFWs, especially the "Japayuki" women. The film also sheds light on the societal struggles experienced by individuals with ADS, showcasing the subtle exclusion they endure.
While the story resonated with me, the movie's structural flaws left me somewhat disappointed. Numerous characters lacked proper context, and certain scenes felt contrived, robbing the film of its potential emotional impact. Superfluous dialogues added unnecessary bulk, hindering the overall flow. "In His Mother's Eyes" had the potential to be a profoundly moving experience, but unfortunately, it falls short of expectations due to these structural issues.

One of the best Filipino films to come out after the pandemic era. Superb and heartfelt performances from the lead actors. Maricel Soriano brings her A-game again and we won't be surprised if she bags at least a couple of awards for her excellent portrayal of a mom who would do everything for her kid. IHME is a melodrama that pierces the heart and speaks to the soul. A well-written script that also marks as an auspicious and unforgettable directorial debut for FM Reyes. Congratulations to the cast, producer, crew and everyone involved in the making of this gem of a movie. We are excited to see another Maricel-FM Reyes collaboration.
