The surname of lead character Donna Revan is an anagram of raven - a bird that has close association with witchcraft.
Many scenes were shot on location in Megarrys Tea Rooms in Blackmore, which is stuffed full of antiques and curios. Octogenarian Judi Wood, who owns the location, became an integral part of the team during filming and relished having cast and crew around.
Filmed predominantly in Essex (UK) including the medieval village of Blackmore. The Priory Church of St Laurence, which appears in the film, dates back to 1114 and marks the site of a former Augustinian Priory, dissolved during the reign of Henry VIII in 1525.
Although never directly stated, there is an underlying theme of witchcraft throughout the story. Wardrobe and production design hint at this using clues and 'Easter eggs' taken from traditional legends, folklore and fact. For example, the color green denotes 'evil' and purple denotes 'good'.
Filmed in and around Blackmore Village, Essex.
