Stupidly funny in a tasteful way

I honestly hate these type of movies usually, but this one was a banger! It gave me a good laugh when I needed one and delivered on the comedy. It never felt like it went to far and had taste compared to others in this genre. Im not sure how it would hit the second time of watching this, but i truly enjoyed watching it this time. Happy it made it to my local big screen, with one time slot a day.

Watched at AMC with Heather on 12-5-2025.

Return of the Parody/Spoof Comedy Genre

The Davenports face possible eviction from Fackham Hall unless one of their daughters is wed and continues the family line.

This period-piece spoof of Downton Abbey has all the elements of a classic parody. It has all the spoof comedy styles: slapstick, innuendos, dirty jokes, and general corniness. The one hour and thirty-seven minute runtime is mindless fun and requires little thought. Check your brain at the door and stream this comedy for an old-school laugh.

Solid main quest line

The main line is very well written, it is interesting and bites you to watch to reveal the story, the cast is amazing, the entourage is wonderful, the costumes and scenery are excellent, the camera work is perfect, but this choice of "the naked gun" style of jokes .... Nevertheless, we watched the film to the end, and enjoyed some punch lines.

Period drama spoof, but not that good

Good lord was that Tom Felton? I did not recognize him, must be the wig.

Also, Damian Lewis' hairdo was one for the ages.

This one's very British and wants to be funny in every possible scene, only it wasn't. I did find the dialogue and the turn of phrase mildly amusing so you can delight in that a little. But I got bored three quarters in and was waiting for it to end.

It will only work for you if you like British stuff and you appreciate a spoof on British stereotypes, especially class and period dramas. But it's not that good. Or should have been a series of short vignettes. I think feature length is too much for this.

Naked Gun But Bridgerton

It's refreshing seeing modern movies go against the grain of seriousness and instead create a silly movie for the goal of laughs. Its these movies that become a part of pop culture and beloved classic like Naked Gun and Monty Phython. I wish I could say that Fackham Hall will land among the greats in this niche genre, but unfortunately that would be a lie. I could tell the actors enjoyed creating this movie and quite possibly had to muster all of their strength for the scenes because my theory is they had to hold back from laughing themselves at the script. Was it genuine laughter or a criticism of the movie? Who is to say.

I wish I had enjoyed it as it was stocked full of amazing jokes but they were poorly executed creating a theatre of movie goers anticipating something, anything for a chuckle and left disappointed except for one boisterous middle-aged man who was audibly animated in his contagious cackles resulting in members of the event to laugh at his reactions instead of the movie itself.

Two hours of laughs and ridiculous fun.

I saw this in a busy, raucous theater in NYC, and I think that's the best way to experience this film. We laughed and giggled for pretty much the entire runtime, so it gets a 9/10.

It is such a fun, silly movie. If you're willing to take it on its own terms and have a good time, it can be an instant comfy classic comedy. Some jokes are clever and smart, some are slapstick and stupid, but the film is always funny. It's a good lampoon, not really a cutting satire at all, and I'm a bit surprised at that expectation. It pokes fun at Downton Abbey, Knives Out, and even a bit of Atonement in the silliest ways.

J. R. R. Tolkien is so delightfully funny as a side character - my whole theater just endlessly giggled anytime he appeared. I'll probably watch it again just to pick out all the insane little things with him.

For me, this sits on the shelf with The Princess Bride, History of the World, and The Meaning of Life. I'm content with that. It does what it sets out to do. Endlessly quotable, immediately rewatchable - just don't go in expecting a cutting, critical darling of cinema. Go in looking to laugh for a couple hours and wonder how something so stupid could be so brilliant. Have fun. Bring friends.

Not bad but could have been sharper

I found this film started off very slowly but improved massively in the second half. The first half had a lot of the gags fall flat but actually got funnier as it went on.

A sort of Downton Abbey spoof with a strong hint of Monty Python (Jimmy Carr seemed to be channeling his inner Michael Palin as the Vicar) and a touch of the Carry On films, it was a bit tasteless at times but the cast played it seriously (much like the Naked Gun films) which is at it should have been. The cast were certainly game and the characters of Rose and and Poppy were probably the stand outs in terms of cast.

Not a bad effort but possibly needed a script revision to make it more even all the way through.

Funny as a burning orphanage

Amazingly it took a team of five writers to produce this 'comedy' with fewer laughs than Zulu. A masterclass in how not to amuse an audience. Weak jokes are done to death, huge professional acting talents utterly wasted. Is it possible the production was based on the plot of The Producers and it was all designed as a money-losing tax dodge? Only joking, Jimmy Carr! Judging by the lack of reaction from the handful of people in the Odeon, Brighton on December 22, this weak satire of the British class system could be the unfunniest comedy of the decade so far.

Still Chuckling

I saw this tonight and went without any real expectations. That being said, I thought it delivered exactly what this sort of comedy should. It was full of jokes, and though I didn't laugh at all of them, I laughed at a lot and I am still chuckling over a couple now, hours later. If you are in the mood for some lighthearted fun, then this movie is well worth watching. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Bodaciously good fun

The reviewers who score this lowly are people without any humor in their big toes. It is a good 7 for sure. I for one chuckled at its silliness and even laughed out loud at many stages of the antics. The production values were excellent and the acting was superb. Yes it was bawdy in a schoolboy kind of way but its tongue was firmly in its cheek. Some compared it to Airplane but it wasn't quite as good as that but it came pretty damn close. I certainly wasn't bored watching this cheeky little comedy for one moment. It was just good British fun, so don't listen to the reviewers who said it was like Mrs Brown's Boys. Let me tell you it was far more clever than Brendon O'Carroll's pen has ever put to paper. I thought it was clever and very silly to curve one's lips in an upward trajectory. I would definitely watch it again. How anyone couldn't see this as funny is beyond me. 7.5 out of 10.

Fackham Sh#%e

Fackham Hall mistakes noise for comedy and parody for substance. What should have been a sharp, affectionate spoof of period dramas instead lurches from one strained gag to the next, rarely landing a joke and never building any real momentum. The humor is broad to the point of exhaustion, leaning heavily on obvious stereotypes and slapstick without the wit to justify them.

Performances feel trapped in caricature, the pacing drags despite the short runtime, and the script seems content to reference better shows rather than say anything clever about them. Even fans of British satire will likely find themselves checking the time.

A parody that forgets the most important rule of comedy: it still has to be funny.

Very Funny

Written in the same mould, but clearly not in the same class, as the great films from the Zuckers. For a first attempt at screenplay, this is a really good effort from funnyman Jimmy Carr. To read the same old trite comment from some on here i.e. All the funny bits are in the trailer is utter nonsense. The trailer is good but there is so much more and so many more funny bits. I found myself laughing at some bits that others clearly had missed e.g. Titles of books, headlines in newspapers, things on walls. Don't take your eyes or ears off it. No, it's not a classic but with this cast. And Carr writing, it was always going to be enjoyable.

Good first watch, most likely better on rewatch

Solid movie in the style of Airplane! And The Naked Gun, but not executed at that level. After the first watch I'd give it a 3.5, a fun but predictable movie well worth the watch. But like Airplane! And The Naked Gun, I'm certain this movie requires multiple rewatches to catch all the jokes I've missed - so that rating could easily climb.

If you liked Naked Gun, you'll like this one

I went yesterday to see this movie. It's not a classic or high-quality film, but it's definitely watchable. If you're a fan of movies like Naked Gun or Airplane, you'll like this one for sure. The general style of humor is quite similar. It's not on the same level as the OG Leslie Nielsen Naked Gun, but it's better than the 2025 Naked Gun movie.

The big highlight, at least for me, is that I love the character Rose. I'd never heard of the actress Thomasin McKenzie before, but I might be a fan going forward. I found her to be so pretty and adorable every time she appeared on-screen. I love her hairstyle, and the aristocratic outfits suit her. Her comedic delivery and facial expressions are well-done. I also found the movie's visuals and setting to be alright.

But the movie has flaws. A few parts in the finale made me smile, but nothing made me really laugh out loud. The movie lacks some originality. They didn't even try at all with the plot; the "twist" with the character Eric Noone was obvious from the start. But I guess that's OK for a slapstick comedy ... However, many of the jokes suffer from lack of originality too. The jokes often struck me as stuff that anyone could come up with; nothing impressed me as clever.

Moreover, I did not like the bathroom humor (e.g. Farting) and sexual jokes involving male genitalia. Those parts felt juvenile

Still - it wasn't bad

6.0/10.

Like Airplane just without the Airplane

I saw this as a screen unseen showing at AMC this past week where you don't know the movie you are seeing but I guessed it was between this and another one of similar length. I'm happy it was this one because I really could use a funny movie that night.

The two minute preview had around a dozen humorous moments in it which we're still funny seeing again in the movie. It literally was nonstop 105 minutes of funny things happening on the screen. People were laughing so hard that I missed some of them and can't wait to rewatch it.

If you liked Airplane, Monty Python, or The Naked Gun then you'll love this type of humor. Much of it was a dry sense of humor that you have to pay close attention to their play on words. It definitely had a lot of physical humor too. Hopefully this film will be successful enough that they make a sequel to it.

Tired, unfunny and boring

Badly written rubbish. So many cliched jokes, that were so unfunny. Christmas cracker jokes are better. Left after half an hour. Such a shame as the cast was good, as was the premise. Missed opportunity to lampoon Downtown Abbey. What went wrong? Why was the writing so bad? The most disappointing cinematic experience for years.

The worst

Honestly, this is a terrible film. The jokes are not funny and could have been written by an 8 year old. It's the kind of film only an 8 year old would find funny.

Who are these people who "chuckled all day" ?

We walked out the cinema after 40 minutes. Never done that before.

Such a great cast,m - wasted.

So Much Laughters

Hadn't heard so much laughters in a theater for a long time. Airplane meets Downton Abbey. The cast is excellent. Damien Lewis especially shines. 90% of the jokes delivered. It is indeed a fun filled 1.5 hours - perfect length for a comedy. I enjoyed it being irreverent, fast paced and nary a dull moment. Definitely a movie to lighten up the holidays.

Only ever walked out of two films

You'll love this if you can't understand normal jokes. This is pretty close to someone hitting me on the head repeatedly with a brick waiting for me to start laughing. I can't. I like actual humour. Clearly the title of this movie is the funniest part of it. Jimmy Carr's cameo was funny the first joke, but he then repeats the same joke format three or four times and it's lost. We left halfway through. I want my £26 back. Who is giving this 6.5 or more? Are you insane? Life is too precious. The best thing about this film was discovering the cinema's new seats with buttons that make the leg rest come up. And leaving. Best bit by far.

Rubbish

It's just full of old recycled jokes from other comedies but done badly. Nothing original about it whatsoever. I could have knocked this script up down the pub having a couple of pints and it would have been a lot funnier. There was quite a few people in the cinema and the silence was deafening. I like Jimmy Carr but stick to the day job.

Such a terrible film

This film has absolutely no redeeming features. The jokes fall flat and are written for "modern" audiances. The plot line is predictable and ridiculous. There was a lot of potential but its all for naught. Spare yourselves from the dullest event of the year and watch paint dry instead. Both me and the missus pained through the whole thing and i wish we had just given up. This film will age like milk. In a word, trash. 4/10 is being kind.

Silliness

If you want to have a serious night then don't watch this movie. It's pure silliness which is what I was looking for in a movie tonight. I enjoyed the dry humor and puns. The murder mystery was a nice addition, but it didn't take itself too seriously either. All in all I feel confident in saying that you should Fackham Hall if you can.
