Deal or No Deal Island

So far it's not THAT bad

Yes, it's deal or no deal meets Survivor... Sorta. The players are mostly interesting, but there are a few that are a little annoying or they just sorta blend into the background. The challenge games are fine - the loser of the challenges are up for elimination. The twist that is you don't beat the banker in the final game you go home and if you do, you send someone else home. I sorta like this idea just because it's different. I like that Claudia is on from the original game show. I have a feeling Howie is the banker on the ship though since I don't feel like they could really have the show without him. Anyway, I recommend giving it a try and see what you think about it.

Ok, But some changes needed

It is not bad. I will say that Rob is the factor keeping this show interesting.

As one reviewer said, the person facing the banker technically needs to eliminate high cases to be personally successful thus is ultimately working against the goal of driving up the grand total. This needs to be addressed.

A change that I think would make the show more interesting is this: If the person facing the banker loses they are eliminated. However, if the person facing the banker wins, they stay in the game, now have immunity, and the remaining contestants who aren't facing the banker have to do a Survivor type of vote to decide who goes home. The winner of that day's challenge would still have immunity thus would not be eligible to be voted off either.

This would drastically up the strategy and the alliance factors of the show which they are trying to make us feel like is important this season but they really are not.

Think about the game play back at camp before the evening's game with this change made. Just a suggestion.

Deal or no Deal got more exciting!

The classic game of deal or no deal that we all know and love just got a little more entertaining!

With more high skates and bigger prizes it makes the game that more interesting! And the fact that the only way to stay in the game is to have a better deal is smart!

The whole "survivor" aspect is perfect where each week the contestants go through challenges to collect briefcases and do what they can to avoid the lowest one

This concept works really well and it seems like this is going to be a fun show and season with twist and turns..

Also I'm wondering if Howie is the banker it would only make sense especially if they're revealing who it is at the end of the season..

Season 1 was great

Season 2 is even more entertaining than the first. Was able to get right into the action especially with contestants like Parvati from survivor. She immediately starts working her magic which is hilarious - some people just have a natural gripping charisma. Without giving more away, there are a lot of other good personas matched throughout episode one. Am excited to see how the competition progresses as it seems they've shaken some things up from the first season. They are definitely trying find a groove for the show that really locks in as a calling card, and I don't think the briefcases are necessarily a part of that. I almost feel like the briefcases are a topping to a bigger picture and if they can make it work it can really help elevate the show to something of a classic.

Changed the game

The Survivor stuff, splashing through mud, etc., I can live without. I've never watched Survivor, so the physical challenges do not appeal to me. When it comes to the actual case-choosing game, they have inverted the object of the game from what it was. Contestant is now building a team total, not playing for himself/herself. And, they have added a rule that the deal the Contestant ultimately takes must be a number higher than the (hidden) case he/she first chose, which means the winning strategy must be to eliminate all the high-amount cases. It turns Howie's studio game around backwards. Makes no sense.

Deal or No Deal Island is a unique reality series that separates itself from others by combining game show elements with reality TV

My wife and I recently watched the first season of Deal or No Deal Island (2024) on Peacock. The premise surrounds 13 contestants who are sent to an island to compete in a social, physical, and strategic game. Each episode, one contestant faces the banker for a chance of elimination, with hopes of making it to the end for a final showdown with the banker to win a massive jackpot.

This series was created by Matt Kunitz (Wipeout) and features Howie Mandel (Deal or No Deal) and Joe Manganiello (True Blood). The show has a diverse cast of characters and challenges for them to overcome. There is a nice blend of strategy and luck to get to the final challenges. While the challenges require some physical ability, the final situations often prioritize endurance over strategy. It's always fun to watch the psychological stresses these games place on contestants. There are some unique and fun circumstances that are enjoyable to watch the contestants try to overcome.

In conclusion, Deal or No Deal Island is a unique reality series that separates itself from others by combining game show elements with reality TV. There's a lot to like here. I would score this a 9/10 and strongly recommend it.

Don't bother.

This program is so unbelievably bad, the only thing that has kept me watching it is Boston Rob. They better make him a co-host if, miraculously, it gets picked up for a second season. Some people haven't like the Survivor aspects of it but to me, that's the only interesting part and even they are pretty tame and lame. The actual game of Deal or No Deal is not too bad, it's the 45 minutes of blather inbetween that make me feel like I'm wasting my life. And it's another American program of scheming, unpleasant, dishonest, backstabbing people will ill intent that I'm sure no one needs. If I wanted to watch that, I'd watch the news.

Unwatchable due to astounding amount of commercials.

Caught the first episode of season 2025. I never saw any of the previous seasons and I hesitated, but ultimately decided to give it a try on a night there wasn't much on. I would have given it at least 6 stars since the show held my interest quickly, but I began to notice as the episode progressed it was continuously interrupted with an astounding amount of commercials. I will not watch the rest of the season. Not having Peacock it became unwatchable due to the unbelievable amount of commercials. I was quite surprised for a network produced show which became very similar to cable shows where there are 3 minutes of show, then 4 minutes of commercials. Hard to believe. Shameful. Life is too short.

Deal or No Deal with extra crap

Deal or No Deal, classic game show that's simple enough is put into a hybrid "Survivor" show. Basically extending the show into bit pieces to extend ONE winner throughout multiple episodes competing in stupid activities. The host is some b-list character actor that I'm sure few people have ever heard of.

You don't need to take a formula that already works and add to it. What's the saying? "Don't mess with perfection."? You wouldn't want to watch people having to eat bull balls or run through mud to get to the wheel on Wheel of Fortune? The game is already peaked at where it's at.

I honestly don't know what they're thinking at this point, except to drag it out more and "try something new"... except it's pointless. It's a show that's doomed to fail before it even airs most likely. I can guarantee most won't like it.

Messy show

Totally get it mix Deal or No Deal with Survivor which isn't a bad idea. But it makes no sense whatsoever.

I pushed through the first episode because it looked like it was going somewhere. But it didn't lol

The casting isn't bad - Boston Rob is naturally saving the series from some people who think this is their meal ticket to stardom.

Then in the last 5 minutes they turn the tables and get rid of someone completely invisible for the entire episode. Nah...

That poor guy didn't even get anything through the episode so you can't just blindside the audience like that and it made no sense because it negates the entire deal or no deal part... Play fair

Editing is shocking. Don't have all these contestants if you're focusing on the most weird and desperate for fame.

Casting is Key

I've never watched Deal or No Deal for more than a couple minutes because the concept just isn't that interesting to me (it's just statistics), especially if I'm not invested in the player. In this case, I was intrigued by the island competition aspect and enticed by Joe Manganiello and Boston Rob.

However, I ended up being pretty disappointed. Joe's charisma was dialed way down by the structure, and his lines seemed overly scripted. I enjoyed seeing Rob compete, but it wasn't enough to make up for many of the the other contestants, who schemed, back-stabbed and lied for no discernible reason, certainly not for gameplay. Without the excuse of starvation and exhaustion, I felt embarrassed for these people displaying such unearned personal vitriol for other players, and it ended up leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

It was interesting seeing the compassionate side of Rob unable to hold back the bloodthirst of first-time players, the personal offers spiced things up sometimes, and I didn't so much mind the final player, but I doubt I'll be watching future seasons.

A waste of a good island.

Game shows are bad enough these days with the constant foreboding music, extended scenes of people staring and thinking if they are going to go on or stop and the hosts asking probing questions to find hidden stress. Now mix two ideas together and get something even more stupid than the original two. Which takes a lot of effort in the case of the Survivor franchise. That idea was stupid on the first episode and just got worse. Add it to a middling game show and it somehow is far less than the sum of its parts.

I await the day when Weird Al Yankovich is seen as a prophet for the line "next week on FOX watch lions eat Christians."

Season 1was Meh, season 2 is unwatchable

Its scripted with characters that are horrible actors. Dr. Will looks like one of the ghost from a Christmas Carol. I instantly felt smarter when I turned it off midway through episode 3. Scripted Reality is something none of us need. Dr. Will was on big brother 2 decades ago, can we send him back there? And what did will do to his face? He looked like my 89 year old grandmother at her funeral. Skin of wax. The host is completely incompetent in how he reads the lines fed him. The other characters (unskilled actors) are not memorable. I do believe the show was a good concept but the execution is lacking.
