I stumbled across this movie randomly, and I saw the IMDB score was decent. Overall, it's not bad
The movie makes-do with little. The cast is entirely unknown and limited, and most of the movie takes place on a desolate road. But the movie is suspenseful, the sheriff is repulsive, and the lead actress isn't hard to root for. The run time is just right. It's reminiscent of the movies Joy Ride and Wrecker .
There are several flaws though: the lead actress isn't a good actress. There are times when the camera focuses on her while she's in the car, and her attempts to act scared and/or panicky are not done well. The plot is good at the start when they focus on a cat-and-mouse game between the sheriff and the lead actress, but near the end, it goes a little left field, in a direction that I didn't like (I won't spoil and say more). Some convos between characters drag on a little too long (eg the lead actress and a certain diner worker)
5.5/10.

The fact that I was led to believe that the 2024 movie "Blood Star" was a horror movie, was more than sufficient for me to sit down and watch it. I am a big fan of all things horror. Sure, I had never heard about the movie, prior to sitting down and watching it, so I didn't know what I was in for, nor what to expect. So I suppose, in a sense, then director Lawrence Jacomelli had every opportunity to entertain and impress me.
But "Blood Star" was a thriller, not a horror movie. So that was a bit of a disappointment.
Honestly, I am a bit surprised that writers Lawrence Jacomelli, George Kelly and Victoria Hinks Taylor collectively could only muster to conjure up a script as generic and mundane as they did. But wait, I am not saying that "Blood Star" is a bad movie, not at all. It was just a bland and generic high way harassment type of movie. And essentially, if you've seen one such movie, then chances are you've seen them all.
I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. But they definitely had a good cast ensemble, and leading actress Britni Camacho carried the movie nicely. But I will say that I was especially impressed with John Schwab's performance as Sheriff Bilstein.
There is a bit of violence in the movie, which definitely helps to spruce up the otherwise somewhat mediocre storyline.
"Blood Star" is a watchable thriller, sure, but it is hardly a movie that warrants more than just a single viewing.
The ending of the movie was just a slap in the face to anyone who had been sitting through the entire movie.
My rating of director Lawrence Jacomelli's 2024 movie "Blood Star" lands on a five out of ten stars.

It's a road trip horror that would remind us of many classics from hills have eyes to wrong turn. With it's secluded dessert backdrop and the unique feature of villain it adds up to a great thriller. Despite the blood and gore it's a stark portrayal of the chain of abuse the unfortunate and unprivileged would have to endure. The evil lawman is a physical manifestation of prejudice. Bobby and Amy is an appreciation of women's struggle. Complimentary performances make this indie a success. Great audio effects and background music. Excellent visuals and special effects. It's a satisfying watch with no obvious errors.

I enjoyed Blood Star really much..brought me back to early low budget days of Rodriquez and Tarantino!
The acting is good (especially the leads, the sheriff and the lead actress), locations are chosen well. The right location can create an entire atmosphere and elevate a simple story into something more immersive. Whether the film takes place in a small town or remote setting, the environment can feel just as much like a character as the people in the story.
The story represents the horror that is "lawmakers gone rouge" really well.
I heard that it's the first feature of the director with and excited to see more!

Whilst I was a little anxious about this film, as I had heard there were some rather gory bits, and that's not usually my genre, I really enjoyed the film. Shot beautifully in the LA desert, it delivered suspense in bucketloads.
There were also no gratuitous sex scenes which as a woman pleased me, as this day it seems to be the easy way to go for so many. An interesting psychological twist in the major flawed personality, fabulously acted by John Schwab. It was great to see the female eventually come out on top, despite a tough journey in every sense of the word!
To think this was shot in 10 days is incredible. Was the chat in the car with the Amy and Bobbie a little too long? - maybe....but you then understand why......in a frightening second! A relationship was being set up. Bobbie played by Britni Camacho was one strong woman.
Well shot, well acted and who doesn't love a 60s Mustang driving through the desert at full throttle!

Blood Star makes brilliant use of its simple premise, serving up the genre thrills of a dark game of cat & mouse, set against a sweaty and deserted Americana back drop. Although a horror/thriller on the surface, it's also an exploration into misogyny and the abuse of power, both culturally relevant in recent times.
It's beautifully shot, cementing first time feature director Lawrence Jacomelli's natural gift for storytelling. With a standout emotive performance from lead actress Britini Camacho driving the film, as we the audience spend every second with her in a battle of wits as she tries to escape the long arm of the law embodied by psychotic Sheriff Bilstein brought to life with reserved menace by John Schwab.
Shot in just ten days? An Incredible debut. Just watch it.
Can't wait to see what's next!

No pun intended - now you can give or cut this some slack .. especially if you think about this being done in just 10 days (shot that is - another pun that was not intended) ... I really was trying to like this ... flaws included and all. But while the cinematography is really good and the bad guy has some (needed) charisma ... the script takes turns that just are not ... well they are not helping.
Take last third exposition ... just too much! And I don't mean the "excuse" our bad guy comes up with. Not necessary in my book, but short enough that it does work. No I mean the talk in the car between two girls/women ... I understand it is supposed to give us a bonding process ... but it just slows the movie way down and does not add much ... if anything. Well (running) time ... add to that some weird monologue our main character has ... some is I reckon necessary ... other is beyond satire or humor ... especially when she enters a room that someone told her is a rest room ... and she tells us this isn't a rest room - don't remember her quote ... as with the conversation in the car, likely something that might happen, but has no business and no real need to be in the movie .... makes the character look ... not intelligent. Shame thought this could have been (way more) fun.

What a ride!
Just watched this with my 15 years old son and we were both riveted from start to finish! Strong acting from the two main characters made me feel sooo tense the whole way through Britini's 24 hr hour ordeal - great twists and shock moments! 🙌🏽 needed a brandy to calm the nerves after 🤣 She's a tough cookie though and I appreciated the poignant glimpse into her traumatic back story when she's driving along with the girl from the diner.
Jacomelli creates some BEAUTIFUL cinematic moments (the fly!!) - the snow on the mountains in the desert background really added to the stark landscape and the sense of abandonment. I love this from a director as it reflects such depth of thought and creativity and takes the audience experience to a whole new elevated level. If this is a debut movie - he obviously knows his craft!! Just imagine what he could do with the industry fully behind him. Will await with interest!

The first few reviews that have rated this movie have obviously been written by friends or family of the director/writers.
In no way, shape, or form is this movie above a 5/10, let alone a 10/10!
I've rated it a 2/10 because the only decent aspect was the cinematography. Everything else was atrocious.
The protagonist in any movie is supposed to be likeable. Even if they're really the villain, they still need to be relatable and have likeable qualities so the audience will root for them.
The writers really missed the mark with this simple formula.
Apart from the fact that the acting was terrible, the main character was dull, boring, and really annoying at times, so it was hard to feel anything for her.
There are rules to follow when you make any thriller/horror movie. The main one being, you can't maim or permanently incapacitate your protagonist! There's a huge difference between them having injuries or maybe losing a finger, but incapacitating her in the way they did was a terrible decision and a very poorly executed attempt to deliver the shock factor.
Whoever made the decision to green light the making of this movie needs to sacked! I could honestly do a better job myself.

From the moment I saw Blood Star announced at Grimfest 2024, I couldn't wait to see it... and I must say, it didn't disappoint. Its pacing and tone reminds me of some of the great thriller/horror's of the past, but with a fresh take keeping it relevant for modern audiences.
Our protagonist (Britni Camacho) is being extorted by sinister Sheriff (John Schwab) in what turns into nail biting and thrilling cat and mouse chase.
Shot in the vastness of the New Mexico desert, the shot's - despite feeling eerie and desolate - are absolutely beautiful to look at. What stands out for me, however, is the craftsmanship that the film's director, Lawrence Jacomelli, brings to his feature film. A debut movie that is shrouded in social relevance, artistry, and bold filmmaking. I cannot wait to see what he produces next.
A must watch!

Wait a minute this movie location looks similar to "The Last Stop in Yuma County". Because if I did research correctly, the location is New Mexico, The story/plot of the film is boring and less interesting, the characters were unforgettable, the Sheriff wanted to murder these victims so that he can hunt down the next victim and murders her, I feel like that's pretty much it for the plot/story. Is there intension, very few and minor wise but not for like hey is good movie and definitely recommend, nope nothing like that. The movie was okay. They did a good job with making the sheriff very psychopath. His acting was pretty impressive too. The cinematography was good. They could have done with a better female lead. The storyline was absurd and feels so unrealistic half of the time. I hate when I'm watching a movie and I'm thinking oh that's silly why not call 9-1-1, that just means the plot wasn't thought through properly. A good movie should make you empathise with the characters and feel their emotions. This one I was laughing most of the time despite it being a horror film.

No, it doesn't do anything original, but everything it does do, it does well. Good writing, good script, good acting, good characters, good pacing, good story, good effects, good cinematography. It satisfying in all areas and if you look closely, a lot of very clever not too obvious little details that don't treat the audience like morons make this refreshing and pleasantly un-cliched. Hats off to the female lead, great performance - nice to see a well written lead with brains and grit who doesn't feel like a girl boss or a weakling, and she delivers it well. This type of movie been done to death before, but Blood Star does it with style. Hard to fault.

Blood Star is an absolute must-watch. From the moment the film begins, you're drawn in by its breathtaking cinematography-each shot meticulously crafted, with stunning visuals that make the film a feast for the eyes. The special effects are nothing short of fantastic, seamlessly blending into the narrative.
The cast absolutely deliver too! Powerful, nuanced performances all round, bringing both depth and emotion to every scene. The chemistry between the characters is palpable.
It's hard to believe this is the work of first-time filmmakers. The company behind Blood Star has proven themselves to be a force to be reckoned with as an emerging powerhouse in the film industry. Their debut is a testament to their vision, talent, and potential.
If this is only the beginning, I can't wait to see what they do next. Blood Star is a thrilling experience, and I highly recommend it!

I mean historically horror / thriller movies would have the typical dumb White Blonde that did everything wrong and would have not one ounce of common sense.. but this main character is a first.
She really takes the cake.
It's a wonder if the clueless personality of the character is intentional as a joke or was meant to be believable and taken seriously.
I've never seen a Latino / POC be as dim-witted as the main character. She absolutely did everything anybody sane logical person would not not do in real life.
This character flaw the writers and director chose to go with made not care or even root for her survival. I struggled to finish watching the movie. The cinematography and the acting was good but the writing and direction was awful and just plain stupid.

This movie is super low budget and it takes its time to come to the boil but that's because it has something to say...if you like old school cat and mouse road movie thrillers then check this out. It has plenty of nods to other movies in this sphere but that's because it's a road movie...roads, cars, gas stations and sun baked lunatics in the middle of nowhere somewhere in the USA. Sit back relax and enough the ride.
It has superb performances from an unknown cast. The direction is considered and measured and you feel like you are being ushered between scenes, never quite sure what is coming next even if in the back of your mind you are thinking - I've seen this before. This is a bold film because it takes a simple story and tells it in a measured way, why?? Because there's a very important statement and theme at the core of this movie.

Meh.. it's a 5 ... it's not terrible, but it's not memorable or remarkable in any way either. Definitely NOT a "must see" or close to it.
A mix of "The Hitcher" and "Texas Chainsaw" (sans chainsaw) to a degree.
I gotta wonder.. where are these attractive women driving trough deserts in classic muscle cars??? Funny how its never a Civic, Accord, Camry, Escort.. always a muscle car.. although the 80s Mustang in this film isn't really the same genre as earlier muscle cars.. it's still a Mustang.
Anyway... film was okay.. exceptionally "talky" in the middle.. the social commentary among two women in the car about domestic abuse was really not necessary and had a CLEAR ulterior agenda. Pointless, unnecessary drivel.
As a film.. it dragggggs then stalls completely, then finally moves. But even when it's moving it's not terribly original.
Character motivations were largely unclear... acting was okay, well... for the most part.
No sex or nudity, one minor adult situation.. which seems rather irrelevant given the violence and foul language. It's labeled "psychological" a few times for a reason... it's more about mood and setting than any on screen gore or "terror". There's blood.. but this is more a thriller than a horror.
Continuity error... keep an eye on that taillight.....

Just finished Blood Star on Amazon Prime and wow, what a surprise from the indie film scene! The film starts with a slow-burning tension with a truly menacing sheriff character.
The film is really elevated by the gorgeous cinematography. Everything feels heightened and super real.
Maybe the car conversation scene could've been trimmed slightly for pacing, but I enjoyed a pause to get the characters' concerns.
It's a process of realisation for the girl, her journey becomes truly harrowing by the end. It builds toward one of the most shocking climaxes. There's a moment where I gasped and thought "They can't possibly do THAT!" You will see what happens in the end!!

I actually like these kinds of movies that are cat and mouse games on a deserted road. But this movie is also very copied. There are many similar movies. So did the person who wrote the script of the movie take it to the movie company after finishing writing and say "I have a very original script"?
I was going to give the movie 2 or 3 points. Until I saw the scene of the car honking continuously and getting into the car in front of it on an empty two-lane road. This scene made it definite that I would give it 1 point.
Some scenes were ideally funny to make fun of. For example, a woman stops in front of a truck parked on the side of the road on an empty and deserted road, and the police are behind her. The woman sits in the car for a while, then gets out and shouts for help. The truck driver sits in the truck for all that time without saying "What the hell is going on?".
Especially before that gun to the head scene, I made fun of her by saying "a shocking move is coming". It was a shocking scene.

Lush cinematography and fantastic performances underpin this beautifully put together indie thriller. The tension builds throughout the film and there are some proper jump scares! Great Baddies, a tough leading lady and a cracking soundtrack make for a slick pulse racing roller coaster through the Californian dessert. The cinematography is off the charts stunning and makes this flick really easy on the eyes of not the nervous system! Shades of "The Hills Have Eyes" in terms of feel but this movie stands in no shadows. Amazingly shot in 10 days on a very modest budget Blood Star punches way above its weight. Highly recommended officer... I mean Sheriff!!!

I don't get chance to watch this genre enough; owing to "What are we gonna watch though...?"
I'm so glad I took the time to watch. This was the perfect blend of suspense and horror....
The characters have a suggested depth, without having a boring narration of their history; making them both interesting and engaging. What's the Sheriff's back story, I wonder..? Maybe a prequel guys?
Beautifully shot too! The stunning landscape adding to the sense of space, and the fact of being far from any potential help... Great use of device, conveying the disgust, or despair of the situation to find yourself in? 🍗 😋
Oh, and Great Car 😊
