Considering that submarine movies are practically all the same and only differ in length, I can, both as a human and as a viewer, understand the creators' desire to spice things up a bit.
It's just that I wouldn't have named the main antagonist "Kraken" if I were them - too funny, especially when this earnest, tight-lipped scientist lady solemnly unveils its identity for the first time, as if delivering some monumental revelation... even though the thing is on the poster, in the title, and plastered everywhere. They could've done it like in The Meg - something like a giant prehistoric octopus named Tishka or whatever.
But it's watchable, even enjoyable. From the opening scene to the last, I kept waiting for some officer on the bridge to say in Sam Neill's voice, "Bit nippy, Captain," and for the ghost of Sean Connery to reply, "Aye, bit nippy..." Thought maybe the creators would throw in a joke. Nope. Didn't happen.

"Kraken" (2025) disappoints, proving that a compelling concept isn't enough to carry a film. Nikolay Lebedev's monster epic quickly devolves into a predictable affair, riddled with plot contrivances that strain credulity. The characters are thinly sketched, making it hard to invest in their plight, and the performances often feel uninspired, failing to convey the gravity of their perilous situation. Instead of a thrilling deep-sea encounter, we're left with a shallow narrative that prioritizes spectacle over substance, ultimately feeling more like a B-movie with an A-list budget. A truly forgettable cinematic experience.
Sci fi survival action drama that is not too cheesy, and fun to watch. Dialogues are neatly following action scenes without dominating the movie at expense of action like many lower budget Hollywood blockbusters. Gfx and special effects are not so top notch but the overall cohesion of storytelling, plot, drama and good acting is solid. Characters are developed without dragging in too deep but feel genuine and believable and the didlogues are not too boring or senseless interchange. The main character by Petrov is definitely well cast, as well as the girl. Outdoor naval submarines scenes are awesome.
It's a terrible terrible movie terrible special effects in even worse acting! Do yourself a favor don't bother watching it. Who pays money for movie like this? I can't understand if it was an American movie I mean in US you can create all kind of bad movies, but in Russia, who gives money for such a crappy movie.?
