Batim

Sasha is the main character of this slow-moving black and white Israeli film, he is trying to escape the rejecting present by exploring the past and healing the wound. He is traveling in an old car to visit the houses where he used to live as a child, some of them look filthy and derelict, others more welcoming. The present and the past intertwine, and little by little we get familiarized with Sasha's trauma as well as his decisiveness, curiosity, sensitivity that coexist with emotional instability, fragility and yearning for a home. Lots of topics are raised in this quiet and slow picture: gender identity, sexual abuse, motherhood, family history, immigration and acceptance of other. Gives a lot of food for thought.
