Garudan: An Imaginable performance of Soori. Review by M. Siraj

Garudan: An Imaginable performance of Soori.

The one line of 'Garuda' is on a person who is caught between fairness and loyalty and what he ultimately chooses, after a chain of events that pits lifelong friends against each other in a tale of betrayal and vengeance written and directed by RS Durai Senthilkumar, based on an interesting and intriguing story by Vetrimaran

Minister R. V. Udayakumar eyeballing a lucrative land owned by Temple in a village, where Sasikumar and Unni Mukundan who are close friends since childhood are living, and Soori, a faithful servant to Unni Mukundan's family who is an orphan who rescued years ago, plays a significant role in both families, overseeing their matters assiduously.

As the Minister's henchman tempts Unni Mukundan with a deal to deceive Sasi Kumari and to surrender the temple documents for an abnormal monetary benefit, persuaded by his wife's desires, agrees, eliciting a heartbreaking chain of events. Unni manipulates Soori's loyalty, installing him as the new trustee to assist in the document theft. Sasi Kumar, unclear of Unni Mukundan's betrayal, meets a brutal end, witnessed by Soori, caught between allegiance to Unni and a sense of justice, Soori lands at a tough decision, leading to an intense showdown.

Garuden maintains a fast pace, the film effectively portrays the close bond between the three main characters, intensifying the impact of the betrayal. Soori stands out with his conflicting emotions, portrayed in a way that goes against his natural loyalty. Additionally, he is unable to lie in front of his master, leading to humorous moments of stream-of-consciousness rambling.

It will be interesting to see what happens next in a film that capitalizes on the thrill. The intermission scene where everything gets thrown away is guaranteed the best theatre experience of the year with Soori's never ever before screen presence with extreme violence and splashing blood, with screaming, strangulation and cutting of hands.

The plot, galloped on betrayal, the film's use of graphic violence and bloodshed, while enhancing its intensity, feels excessive and slightly diminished their impact. Soori, Sasikumar, and Unni Mukundan share equal screen time, Sasikumar delivers his usual flair with a worthy performance. Unni Mukundan new comer from Kerala, impresses with his earnest portrayal seamlessly delves into the character's psyche. However, it's Soori, as an actor, has previously done mostly comedy roles as hero's sidekick, in this film Soori shines, with muddy vibes of the brickfield, transitioning from a loyal servant to a principled fighter, offering the film's emotional core. He delivers an outstanding performance, continuing his successful streak of serious role in Viduthalai, audience is at the edge of seat, they can see only Sokkan the character of Soori throughout the film, and Soori's miracle transformation from Comedy character to a serious and emotional rural action flick, it proves how a capable director can mould an actor to the desired character. Hats off to Director and Soori.

Yuvan Shankar Raja's background music is impressive to uplift the film, the Director RS Durai Senthilkumar has weaved Garudan to appeal the audience to see Soori with a totally different mannerism and body language. The climax builds up with a high-speed chase, culminating in a dramatic confrontation that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.

Overall, Garudan is a rollercoaster of emotions that will stay with viewers for long time with Soori's life time performance.

An unexpected gem

I'm still baffled by how Soori was insufferable as a comedian and is yet somehow sincere and naturalistic as a lead actor. Only his second movie in the lead following Vetrimaran's underrated "Viduthalai" last year, Soori delivers an impressive showcase of range and character in this gripping tale of family, loyalty, greed and jealousy.

R. S. Durai Senthilkumar's "Garudan" might not be a very pretty entry in the list of good Tamil movies this year, but it's effective and rich in its complex study of familial relationships. Each character is very well crafted and the way in which they all interact with each other speaks volumes to the amount of care the writers had towards telling an effective story. Sure, there are times when it could be a tad predictable, but it's never too much to be distracting. There's as much action and as much layers underneath said action to make the movie as entertaining as it is emotional. Where this movie shines the most is where it draws the line, as it consistently skirts the line of excessiveness without ever crossing into it. It's aware of its own scope and does well enough to stick within it, making any slip up (which of course there are many of) forgivable.

It's not a movie I went into expecting anything, but walked out of it pretty satisfied with what I watched. It's very worth your time and I would happily recommend you check it out!

Good Village drama thriller

RATED 8/10 Language: Tamil Source: Nil RECOMMENDED

The movie is extraordinary in the first half and the interval block is so thrilling to close as "Naadodigal" one interval block.... The character and story development was fantastic.

Liked the lead trio characters most and Soori's silence and "non-stop" dialogs to reveal the truths are ultimate.

The second half also good, but the freshness in the first half was missing.

Too much of violence also little bit minus. And the after credit scene is 80's cinema cliche.

The overall screenplay and cast makes the movie as a worth watch in big screen.

A Raw Film with Potential Hindered by Execution

This film ambitiously tackles three significant issues that affect the human experience in the countryside, presenting them in a raw and unfiltered manner. However, it falls short in key areas of storytelling, editing, and screenplay, which are crucial for a compelling narrative.

The strength of the story and the actors' performances are engaging, with each actor striving to deliver their best. Yet, the film often breaks immersion, pointing out its own highlights rather than letting the viewer discover them organically. This is somewhat forgivable considering the involvement of upcoming actors, where certain faults can be overlooked.

Despite its shortcomings, the film manages to be an average watch. The fulfillment one seeks from a complete cinematic experience is not fully realized here. The potential is evident, but the execution does not rise to meet it.

Great acting and screenplay. Edge of the seat experience @Interval block.

I went to this movie randomly and I was shocked to see this movie. A great acting by SasiKumar, Soori and Unni, interesting screenplay by the director.

Sasikumar, Soori and Unni acted perfectly driven the character and made us to the edge of the seat in the interval block. This story revolves around two friends and who protect the temple and friendship.

Soori - He gave the best and elevates the character he played.

Sasikumar - Played the character that he never played.

Unni - He played another important role which supports the story.

You will seriously enjoy and talk about this movie and fully satisfied with the movie. #Rock #Soori #Sasikumar #Unni.

When faith leaps into emotions....

Story of how a Dog becomes a man... No offence- I just wanted to convey the conviction of faith like a dog converts to valuable emotional

The story revolves with the trio all the time Sasi Kumar, Soori and Unni with tensions all the time. Sasi Kumar and Soori have done exceptionally well and it's Sasi Kumar the hero of the movie supported by Soori. Sasi stole the stage almost the whole show and Soori at last 30 mins. Shivada, vadivukarasi and remembered for their performance and the heroine Revathi gets hidden and not so worthy.. Roshini enters the silver screen and worthy role and if she does these supporting roles, she can atleast earn fame and money - but if she demands heroine roles, just get lost...

Overall violence is heavily shown and I wonder how U/A was provided. Songs and BGM did not stick to mind and Yuvan never came to mind.

Garuda gamana Vrishaba vahana inspired garudan

Good direction, there is plenty of room for improvement. Soori has performed well. Definitely a good watch and a good movie that came off lately.

Unni mukundan could have done better, 2nd half was a bit too lengthy, I feel closing scenes could have been done a little better.

Camera and direction was good, stunt for sooris fight scenes were good, no extravagant fight where the villans fly like we have seen in the other movies.

Some characters could have been avoided made no use, and could have added more content during those times.

I can say one of the best Tamil movie scenes seen in the recent past.

Nerve-wracking Soori!!

This movie is a thrilling ride that delivers goosebumps, nerve-wracking moments, and plenty of suspense. The trailer alone convinced me to watch it. Soori, you proved that anyone can be a hero when given the right opportunities. Your performance was fantastic, and I was captivated by every scene.

Sasikumar, kudos to you for allowing Soori to shine by giving him 60% of the heroic action space, and he truly delivered. This is a super satisfying movie that everyone should see in theaters. Don't underestimate it.

The entire Garudan team excelled in their roles, showcasing remarkable talent. Well done, everyone!

A pucca village action drama

The movie is full of action drama with a good story and a secent screenplay. The story is simple and the screenplay is good too. Soori is in prime form after viduthalai, he just nailed with his petformances playing the lead role in this action package. Soori is turning out to be the most wanted actor with his performances. Sasikumar was masterclass in his role, a wise role which is quite amazement to the character. A good one from him as well. All others did their role. Songs were drawing down the pace of the movie, bgm was decent. The only negative in this movie is that it was a usual story and screenplay, that was the only issue, even the dialogues seems familiar but overall a good movie. Its all about Soori. A perfect pitch. Please do watch it in theaters.

Good movie in Kollywood in recent times.

This is a movie about Sokkan a loyal friend of Karuna who brought Sokkan into his family and Sokkan would do anything for Karuna. After Karuna gets his hands dirty, Sokkan is pushed to decide whether to stay loyal or to stand by justice.

This movie states that there are only three reasons for every problem, Land, Woman, and Gold (Greed). But when the story covers the woman's portion of the problem, it is not the woman to blame. It happens due to their religious beliefs and discrimination against other religions.

The story is well written even though it is cliched. As the screenplay was engaging, didn't deviate mostly but there was drag after intermission. Every character was well developed in how they evolved as the movie progresses further. The protagonist Sokkan has a good arc where questions himself if he should be loyal or just at a certain point in the movie. Some serious scenes were let down by the following comedy scenes. It feels unwanted as it has the seriousness still in the following comedy scene. The interval was satisfiable and definitely created expectations for the second half of the movie. The climax was well-set but felt like it was written conveniently to end the movie. Mostly I didn't notice any potholes or logical mistakes in the movie, they justified every aspect and action of the characters convincingly.

The actors did their part well but Unni Mukundan was not convincing in is character. The cinematography was good, especially in the climax, the composition, and color tone of the shots, were great. The fight and stunt sequences were great too as tried to be realistic as possible for a movie. Last but not least, Yuvan Shankar Raja did a great Background score for every emotion in the movie. Some songs were good with the flow of the movie but some didn't work for me.

When this movie was announced, Director Vetrimaaran was credited for the story. But I don't know why they didn't give credit to him for the story in the movie.

This movie proves that even with a cliched story still, you can make a good, engaging, and intense movie. I really like this movie and I definitely recommend it to watch (with your family).

Soori's acting prowess isn't enough to save this weak film.

A corrupt minister eyes for grabbing an unclaimed land dedicated to a temple. He plans to steal the original land documents kept at a bank's safe locker. Meanwhile Inspector Muthuvel is tasked to gather all the information about Karuna, Aadhi and Karuna's loyalist Sokkan, as these three are the main hurdle for the minister. The main root cause for all problems - land, money and women. These causes rift between Karuna and Aadhi whereas Sokkan getting caught in between. His loyalty comes at a hefty price as the rift leads to betrayal and murder. How Sokkan rushes karma over the real culprits while protecting the victims, forms rest of the story.

This rural based story involving a temple's land being a main dispute has a decent premise but the screenplay falters big time. The attempt at narrating this story's conflict through land, money and woman suffers heavily from generic writing right from the beginning. We have a bunch of template baddies and to make it worse, the good ones too are one toned. Aadhi is righteous with anger issues, Karuna is the heir from once a rich family and Sokkan is loyal in an unbearable way. The pace is uneven throughout and the director resorts to unnecessary violence. The half baked love story doesn't help either. In the attempt to glorify Soori as Sokkan and Sasikumar as Aadhi, the scenes remain outdated.

For Garudan

An Exciting Turn in Tamil Cinema: "Maharaja" and "Garudan"

In recent months, Tamil cinema has struggled to deliver standout films. However, this trend has dramatically shifted with the release of two exceptional movies, "Maharaja" and "Garudan." These films have not only showcased the immense talent within the industry but have also reignited my passion for Tamil cinema.

#### Maharaja and Garudan: A Cinematic Revival

Both "Maharaja" and "Garudan" are masterpieces that deserve to be experienced on the big screen. The anticipation and excitement surrounding these films are palpable, and I am eager to witness their full impact in theaters.

Garudan: A Visual and Auditory Marvel

"Garudan," in particular, has captivated my attention. The movie's direction, color grading, and framing are exemplary, earning the crew a well-deserved round of applause. My favorite moment in "Garudan" is the interval block. Without giving too much away, I can say that this sequence showcases the team's incredible craftsmanship and leaves a lasting impression.

An Unforgettable Experience

To truly appreciate "Garudan," it must be watched in a Dolby Sound Theatre. The audio-visual experience in such a setting is nothing short of breathtaking, with certain frames guaranteed to give you goosebumps. The meticulous attention to detail in every aspect of the film ensures an unforgettable cinematic journey.

In conclusion, "Maharaja" and "Garudan" have set a new standard for Tamil cinema, and I highly recommend watching these films in theaters to fully appreciate their brilliance.

A Cult Classic movie of recent times

This movie takes us into the plot right away. There is not even a single unnecessary shot. After the first 20 minutes, there is no turning back, the story takes twists and turns and feels like a roller coaster ride.

This is the first ever movie I felt like why the hell did the Interval popup now, it was one of a kind of best interval sequence.

Each and every dialogue is very unique, The entire movie is raw and this is one of the movie where the fight sequences feels like so real.

Soori, Soori, Soori, None can replace him in this movie. This move is really like an epic story told in a recent trend. Overall, as I have mentioned in the title, Its A CULT CLASSIC OF 21st CENTURY.
