Identity, directed by Akhil Paul and Anas Khan, is a crime investigation drama cum action thriller with a very solid first half, followed by an overstuffed yet engaging second half. The film excels in establishing a highly engaging case, although it occasionally resorts to spoon-feeding scientific jargon. In the second half, the tone shifts from
investigation to action, introducing new characters and plot points, which might feel slightly distracting. However, the action set pieces, especially the amazing car chase and the well-executed aviation thrill sequence, keep you hooked. While the twists and turns are intriguing, they could have been more impactful, and the emotional elements feel somewhat underwhelming. The climax includes certain commercial elements that seem out of place.
Tovino delivers another very good performance, with his body language adding uniqueness to his character. Trisha performs well, while Vinay Rai starts off good but later devolves into a clichéd character. Aju Varghese and Shammi Thilakan provide good support, and the rest of the cast does a decent job. Technically, the film is impressive. The camerawork and Bejoy's music complement the narrative effectively. The editing, with its use of jump cuts, might feel distracting at times The screenplay is smart and ensures every question is answered with minute details, while also addressing open points later. However, it feels very overstuffed at times. Overall, Identity is a good thriller that could have been even better if it had avoided being overly packed.
OVERALL - 7/10.

A Gripping Start, A Confusing Descent:
The first half of this movie is undeniably gripping and engaging. It pulls you in with a compelling story and keeps you hooked with its suspenseful atmosphere. The pacing is excellent, and the characters are intriguing enough to hold your attention.
However, the second half takes a dramatic turn for the worse. In an apparent attempt to deliver unexpected twists and surprises, the writer seems to have derailed the narrative. The plot becomes increasingly convoluted and confusing, leaving the viewer feeling disoriented and ultimately unsatisfied.
While the initial promise of the film is undeniable, the second half unfortunately diminishes its overall impact. I'd recommend waiting for this semi-thriller to arrive on OTT platforms. The first half is definitely worth experiencing, but the second half might leave you feeling disappointed.
Overall: * Strengths: Gripping first half, engaging pacing, intriguing characters.
* Weaknesses: Confusing second half, convoluted plot, underwhelming twists.
* Recommendation: Wait for OTT release. Enjoy the first half, and be prepared for a potential letdown in the second.

It was fantastic movie identity the main character tovino, the villain and side characters trisha and others, everything is great the making was absolute fire. Brilliance and amazing fighting , car stunt , helicopter fight, fights were like amazing with great camera shooting the angles and the way of moving with sound effects makes the fight scenes massive could have rated 9 but for some reasons i had to give this an 8, i wish everyone will watch this and shares their experience , i hope this movie get a win.

Identity, starring Tovino Thomas, is a technically impressive film that offers an engaging start. The movie hooks you right from the beginning with its gripping narrative and outstanding technical aspects, especially the music by Jakes Bejoy, which elevates the intensity of the scenes.
The first half is a treat-tight, thrilling, and supported by a strong cast. Tovino shines throughout, with his action sequences and the car chase standing out as highlights of the film. The layers in the story are commendable as the movie attempts to address several important issues, showcasing depth and ambition.
However, as the movie progresses, the pace takes a hit. The second half feels overstuffed with complex narratives and too many viewpoints, leaving viewers feeling exhausted and occasionally lost. While the intention to create a multilayered story is clear, the excessive writing and overwhelming content dilute the impact. The complexity becomes the film's biggest drawback, making it harder for the audience to stay connected.
Despite its flaws, Identity deserves appreciation for its ambition, technical brilliance, and Tovino's compelling performance. If the storytelling in the latter half had been more streamlined, it could have been an exceptional thriller.
Verdict: A bold and technically excellent movie that falters under the weight of its overambitious narrative. Worth watching for the first half and Tovino's stellar action scenes.

I liked the movie until the first half, but after that the movie took turns like a typical Vijay movie. Over hyping hero and his career background displayed exactly like in tamil movies. "You don't know who my brother is", this kind of dialogues we have seen a lot in kollywood. Trisha didn't had anything to do and some scenes felt so artificial. There were so many unnecessary lagging scenes which could have been removed and made the movie little shorter. In some scenes background scores were bad, especially in the climax. I don't know how people rated this movie more than 8 and even 10. Tovino, we expected better from you.

Honestly I watch this movie only for tovino thomas I'm a huge fan of him,but now I'm not only discussing about him but also the other members are also well performed.
Overall, the movie was fantastic, including making wise choices in terms of plot development, character arcs, and direction, which enhanced the overall storytelling experience. The pacing was spot-on, keeping the audience engaged without feeling rushed or dragging. The performances were outstanding, with each actor bringing depth and nuance to their role. Additionally, the cinematography and music were thoughtfully chosen, adding to the emotional weight of the film. Every decision made, from the dialogue to the visual effects, contributed to creating a cohesive and memorable cinematic experience.

I watched this movie after being impressed by the trailer but the movie didn't meet the expectations . I hoped for an edge of that seat thriller but the movie was lagging for most parts . Only thing which I liked in the movie was Tovinos acting . He did one of his best performances and that might have saved this movie from being a flop . The Movie was cinematographed kind of Hollywood level but should have been a bit more bright . Bgm and other things were good. Expected more dialogues from Trisha but the script demanded less dialogues. To Summarise, only the last half an hour of the movie was worth the ticket and rest of the movie lagged for most parts.

The movie makers probably thought that they would take some good parts from other movies and remake it into a success, well the plan fell flat....thank God, I didn't watch it in the theaters, the seat would have been torn out of sheer frustration!
None of the actors have lived up to their potential, with Trisha just being eye candy! Truly wasted potential.... Waste of time watching this movie.
Don't know how Tovino agreed to work in this movie maybe they made the story sound fantastic in narration and promised big budgets. The reality is that big budgets and big names don't make a movie successful, good script and direction do..

Started 2025 with a malayalam movie, and it was just fantastic. It's a good start for mollywood this year. Identity is one of those movies that will just keep your eyes open the entire time because it is so engaging to watch. Every second of this movie is filled with twist and turns, especially the second half, but I had a feeling that they might have overdone that part, but still, it was good. Music department was just brilliant with scores by Jakes Bejoy . It's one of the best mystery thrillers of mollywood, and tbh I liked it more than Anchampathira. Tovi was just outstanding, and Trisha also did her part well and had a good screen time. As I said, the screenplay was so good. Thus, it is a good way to start your 2025, and there might come some mixed reviews about this movie. What you want to do is just get the ticket and watch it.

IDENTITY brings a unconventional narrative though the plot is rather slender. The screenplay skillfully keeps the suspense alive but fails to maintain engagement for most of its runtime. While some moments do lag with the slow pace narration, some are crafted with sheer brilliance and pulse-pounding excitement. Few plot twists add intrigue and keep the audience guessing but others feel forced and perplexing.
Trisha is an undeniable powerhouse of talent and beauty but her character isn't explored to its full depth, her performance is nuanced, authentic, and compelling. However, her styling and makeup could have been more refined.
Tovino, in the lead role, delivers a pitch-perfect performance, embodying his character with charisma and conviction. Supporting actors like Vinay Rai and Shammi are equally commendable, each bringing distinct energy to their roles, making the ensemble cast stand out.
The cinematography experiments with inventive shot compositions and lighting, yielding a visually dynamic experience in parts. While not consistently striking, the overall visual tone is effective.
The action sequences are choreographed with precision, exuding style and intensity.
The background score deserves applause for setting the right tone, seamlessly elevating the narrative.
Production design complements the story well, adding authenticity to the world-building.
Directors Anas Khan and Akhil Paul deliver a polished film that often feels like a Hollywood venture, thanks to its slick execution and ambitious vision.

In many ways, Identity is technically superior to Forensic and boasts some interesting characters (like that of Tovino's and Trisha's). But the "hack" writing that somewhat derailed Akhil Paul & Anas Khan's previous venture is a major drawback here too. This is a film with several twists and turns, though none of them pack a serious punch. It's almost as if the writers knew this beforehand, so they've tried their best to salvage it in the making. As such, we're treated to some slick action blocks, both on land and in the air. Most of the exposition has a Wikipedia-reading feel to it, packed with a little too much info. Sure, it helps provide additional context, but do we really need SO MANY characters and subplots to get to the rather obvious conclusion?
The technical aspects are commendable - Yannick Ben and Phoenix Prabhu effectively crack the stunts, DoP Akhil George captures the leads and proceedings stunningly, and Jakes Bejoy delivers a killer score (though a bit reminiscent of Forensic). Visual effects are also largely decent (with the exception Aju Varghese's moustache). The screenplay could've gone in interesting directions, especially with respect to Trisha's character. But when the focus shifts to Tovino's Haran Shankar (sketch-artist-turned-whatever), the film starts faltering big time. I think the writer-director duo needs to ensure that their next screenplay is fat-free, unnecessary-characters-free, and most importantly, uses non-linearity only if it amps up the (actual) thrill quotient.

Identity (2025) is a gripping Malayalam action thriller that masterfully blends forensic science, psychological intrigue, and high-octane action. Directed by Akhil Paul and Anas Khan, the film follows forensic sketch artist Haran Shankar (Tovino Thomas) as he gets entangled in a complex investigation led by CI Allen Jacob (Vinay Rai). Trisha Krishnan plays Alisha, an investigative journalist with a unique cognitive condition that adds an intriguing layer to the narrative. With unpredictable twists, intense action sequences, and a suspenseful screenplay, the film keeps viewers engaged from start to finish.
Tovino Thomas delivers a standout performance, portraying his character's depth with subtlety and precision, while Vinay Rai adds intensity to the investigation. Trisha Krishnan makes a solid comeback in Malayalam cinema, though her role could have been explored further. The film's technical brilliance, including Akhil George's striking cinematography and Jakes Bejoy's gripping background score, enhances its overall impact. Identity sets a new benchmark for investigative thrillers in Malayalam cinema, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre.

"Identity 2025" throws you headfirst into a dizzying game of cat and mouse. Tovino Thomas delivers a compelling performance as the sketch artist forced to recreate crime scenes, unknowingly becoming a pawn in a killer's twisted agenda. The plot is a relentless rollercoaster, packed with unexpected twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. While the intricate narrative is a major strength, some viewers might find the sheer volume of plot developments a tad overwhelming. The action sequences are slick and well-executed, adding to the film's thrilling pace. Visually, "Identity 2025" is a treat, with vibrant cinematography that enhances the suspenseful atmosphere. It's a refreshing take on the psychological thriller genre, offering a unique blend of suspense, action, and mind-bending intrigue. Just be prepared to keep up, as this film doesn't hold back on its complex storyline. While not perfect.

By the end, the main question Identity provokes is a simple "Why did it need ALL of this?" I'm not joking when I say this could have likely been recut into two separate films - perhaps not even as part 1/part 2, but as two films separate from each other, with the cast playing differently-named characters, as was already done by a few directors earlier.
As it is, it does contain a lot of twists - and our understanding of key characters changes so much that their initial actions at times seem to make little sense in hindsight. After a halfway point, genuinely cool and seemingly pivotal scenes (i.e. One where a key character's inability to recognize faces is exploited in a genuinely disturbing manner) also stop mattering like 10 minutes later - in a film which lasts 2.5 hours.
I should also note that while I liked the soundtrack quite a lot, the near-obligatory song montage is not integrated as well as was done in a few others I saw recently (most notably Premalu and even arguably Khel Khel Mein) and there's at times a tendency to pick overly charged music for moments that would have benefited from something subtler.
And yet...on its own, almost every scene has something to recommend it. Even the final showdown is brought down by simply feeling NOT NECESSARY (in part because the villain could have apparently been easily caught without it anyway) - on a technical level, it is no worse than the final fights in Villeneuve's Dune (either part) or Kill. This doesn't apply to just the action scenes either; for one, a quiet scene where the protagonist remarks that one's choice of music reveals as much as a choice in food is a nice thought - and something most action directors would have never thought of including. As is common in Malayalam cinema, there is the "social responsibility" subtext, and the "rape revenge" aspects of the story are paired with reassurances that survivors can recover and go on to achieve great things - though whether the creators did enough to justify the use of that plotline in the first place is an open question.
In all, this is a weird film to rate. I feel like my current score could easily swing several points in either direction - depending purely on which parts of its massive canvas I would choose to zoom in.

Identity (2025) delivers a gripping action-thriller led by Tovino Thomas, who excels in his role as Haran Shankar, a talented sketch artist drawn into a complex murder investigation. The film weaves a suspenseful narrative with unexpected twists, showcasing the protagonist's crucial role in solving a mysterious case. Identity
Rating - 3.5/5
An investigation thriller with a conventional story plot portrayed through a well compounded screenplay and detailing.
The plot of the story revolves around an eye witness to a murder and the investigation cornering the events that led to the crime.
The screenplay writing by Akhil - Anas duo keeps many open ends in the first half and the dots join altogether in the latter half giving a decent experience although sounds a bit lethargic in few sequences once the plot is revealed. The efforts behind the detailing given to the storyline is impressive though the plot may feel primitive to the audience.
Subtle performance by Tovino as the character giving a decent delivery. It seems like Trisha was pulled to the movie just for scaling up the project and to portray the distinctive character arc and layers unlike her prior films. Impressive performance by Vinay Rai portraying varied layers of the character & Mandir Bedi in a stylish avatar while debuting in Malayalam. Shammi Thilakan,Aju Varghese,Archana Kavi,Sujith Sankar & Giju John made notable performances.
Impressive BGM's by Jakes Bejoy gives an engaging experience towards the climax sequence, stunning cinematography by Akhil George especially in the action sequences & Chaman Chakko's efforts in stitching together the visuals is worth mentioning in giving a technically brilliant thriller.
A profusive thriller with feeble story plot and decent performances.

I'm starting to question the trustworthiness of IMDb ratings. I decided to watch the movie based on its high rating, and it turned out to be a letdown. The first half had some suspense, the story drifted off course and became utterly boring in the second half. From fake accents to cringe-worthy slow-motion scenes, it felt almost laughable. Random characters popped up without purpose, and the plane scenes were completely unnecessary. At nearly three hours long, the movie was a tedious slog. The story writing and editing were poor, and while the cinematography was decent, it couldn't save the experience. Don't be fooled by the IMDb rating, pretty sure these are bots.

Only if you watch this movie very carefully at least twice will you be able to fully understand each character. It is a film packed with twists and suspense. The directors have successfully kept the audience engaged without any dull moments.
I personally felt that Shammi Thilakan's performance was more impressive and natural than the lead actor's. The heroine, Trisha, didn't have much to do. Vinay Rai also did justice to his role. However, the fight sequences shot on a chartered flight in the climax felt a bit over the top. The car stunts and accident sequences were somewhat justified.
In the first half, I assumed it was a crime thriller, but the second half turned out to be a full-fledged action film.
On the technical side, the editing, cinematography, and background music were excellent. Surely first Hit of Tovino in 2025.

Who gave these 8.5 rating and all. Absolutely misleading ratings and reviews. May be only the fans are doing the same. This is a 3 rd class mass movie , horrible BGM, even horrible direction, no editing at all. Very long long script and twists and turns and too much information data a mix of everything...so many characters and un necessary characters and situations. Absolutely unbearable , movie makers should watch the movie before releasing it.
Waste of time watching even in TV. Don't understand why tovino chooses like this , 50 years back this would have been an OK kind of movie.
I think they had spent a lot of money for the action scenes and all just made the boaring elongated.

"Identity" (2025) is a Tamil psychological action thriller directed by Akhil Paul and Anas Khan that delivers a refreshing and compelling cinematic experience. With its ambitious storytelling, outstanding performances, and a deeply layered plot, Identity truly stands out in the thriller genre. As someone who enjoys mystery thrillers that keep you guessing till the end, I found Identity incredibly engaging and impactful.
The movie revolves around Haran Shankar (played brilliantly by Tovino Thomas), a skilled forensic sketch artist who suffers from a unique psychological condition. Haran is called in to assist the police in solving the mysterious murder of Amar Felix, a notorious blackmailer. What initially appears to be a straightforward murder investigation soon spirals into a web of deeper conspiracies involving covert agencies, hidden identities, and a rare medical disorder that affects facial recognition.
From the opening scenes, Identity grabs your attention with its eerie tone and carefully built suspense. The directors do a remarkable job of establishing a tense, unpredictable atmosphere that persists throughout the film. One of the things I admired most was how the suspense never once dropped. Every time I thought I had figured out what was happening, the story revealed another layer that completely changed my understanding. The unpredictability was genuinely thrilling.
Tovino Thomas once again proves why he is one of the most versatile actors of this generation. His portrayal of Haran - a man burdened by a troubled past and haunted by his own mental struggles - is deeply convincing and emotionally resonant. He balances vulnerability and determination with incredible finesse, making Haran a character that is both relatable and inspiring.
Vinay Rai, portraying CI Allen Jacob, is equally impressive. He delivers a powerful performance that brings depth and complexity to the antagonist's role, avoiding clichés and creating a character that feels real and menacing. Trisha Krishnan also shines as Alisha, the prime eyewitness whose recollections are vital to cracking the case. Though her character could have been given more space for development, Trisha brings a compelling presence to the screen.
The technical aspects of Identity are top-notch. Akhil George's cinematography perfectly captures the dark, brooding mood of the story, using lighting and framing to enhance the feeling of claustrophobia and tension. Chaman Chakko's editing ensures a smooth, gripping pace throughout the film, while Jakes Bejoy's background score effectively heightens the emotional and suspenseful moments without ever feeling overpowering.
One of the boldest elements of Identity is its ambition to explore complicated themes. The film dives into topics like mental health, the reliability of memory, justice, and the ethical dilemmas faced by covert security agencies. While this complexity enriches the story, at times it can also feel slightly overwhelming. There are moments when the narrative becomes dense with information, and some viewers might find it challenging to keep track of all the subplots. However, for those who enjoy films that challenge them to think and analyze, Identity is a rewarding experience.
If I have any criticism, it would be that the film occasionally leans too heavily on exposition. Some crucial plot points are explained through long dialogues rather than being shown visually. While it's understandable given the intricate storylines, a bit more "show, don't tell" would have made the experience even stronger.
Still, these are minor issues compared to the overall achievement of the film. Identity is a bold, intelligent thriller that respects its audience's intelligence. It demands attention, rewards careful viewing, and stays with you long after the credits roll.
In a time when many thrillers rely on formulaic plots and predictable twists, Identity dares to be different. It's smart, suspenseful, and emotionally resonant - a true testament to the talent of its makers and its stellar cast.
I highly recommend Identity to anyone who loves intricate, unpredictable thrillers with real emotional depth. It's not just a movie - it's an experience.

Seen movie with so much hype...I feel movie is overhyped.. starting really well but in the end feel unsatisfied... acting is decent enough...direction is lost towards ends..so many twist has spoiled thrilled portions...flim started with murder investigation and progress with action thriller.... action in 2nd part is good... Over the top attitude of both hero and villain is make movie dull..even brilliant actress Trisha has been not given much value in 2nd half..in the first half trisha and hero tovino Thomas has done good acting...it's feel like movie has lost charm because of stylish treatment..one time watch movie.
