Had to take 4 breaks to keep watching

This movie felt like MacGyver, Lost, The Fugitive, and a telenovela got trapped in a writer's room, then someone sprinkled in Predator (1987) and No Country for Old Men and said, "Perfect - now let's shoot it like a high school project." The plot is all over the place, characters make baffling decisions, and the tone swings wildly between gritty survival thriller and melodramatic soap opera. Visually, it tries to be cinematic but ends up chaotic - like someone discovered both slow motion and shaky cam and used them nonstop. It's oddly entertaining in a "what am I even watching?" kind of way. If you're looking for logic or cohesion, abandon all hope. It's either a misunderstood masterpiece or a beautiful disaster. Still undecided.

ytho

Such a waste of good talent. This was so amateur hour, it's like it was written and directed by a 5th grade drama class. The entire story was cliched with the worst parts of every other cat and mouse drama film, all dragged out with ridiculous scenes. Even the normally comfortable 104 min runtime felt like 4 hours of the same run hide catch run hide catch etc. The top cast was all decent considering what infantile script and directing they had to work with, with the exception of long greasy hair dude that was annoying af and unconvincing in his role. Skip this one, it barely qualifies as a watchable B movie.

Irritating...

Ricky Russert, that's it!

The most annoying, overacted, cringing and retching performace I have ever witnessed...

I don't know whar they were aiming at with this character, but he simply brings down the whole movie... I will never again watch a film in which this sad man is casted.

I think he wanted to give out this Brandon Lee in "The Crow" vibe, but he just ended up looking (and sounding) like a playground bully... just ridiculous!!!!

We are before another of these two-bit flimsy movies that have been in fashion for the last 5 years or so (thank You Emmet/Furla).

We saw Bruce Willis (may God help him) take part in around 10 per year...

Most of them entertain, others not so much.

This one had more than one star. Josh Duhamel is OK. Greg Kinnear is fantastic, and Peter Stormare is, for me, a Cult Actor!

There wasn't much in the script for them, but they did their best and, had it not been for Billy the Silly Bully, the movie would have been a little better.

I agree with one of the reviewers, who says this takes us back to McGyver.

It's just another movie... it helps you pass the time on a Sunday afternoon, but be ready for the ridiculous goon, because, apart from being totally expendable, he can get on ones nerves...

wasted potential

Had so much potential. Soon as you see the bad guy, which is a cross between a B movie dracula and uncle fester who walks like he has a back problem you know it's going downhill. Beautiful back drops and scenery, good plot but the villain is awful and dont get me started on the awful centre greasy center parting they gave him. You will know what i mean when you see it.

The sheriff is equally bad, you just think seriously? Really? It's like it was directed by a primary school drama teacher who got fired for drinking on the job.

The "hero" isn't too bad apart from the cheesy scene in the bar. This could have been a great movie but you know exactly what's going to happen especially with the teenager. And how did this engineer suddenly have the skills of Arnie in Predator. Was he in the special forces before going into engineering? Good luck with this one.

Ricky who?

Such an irritating performance from Ricky Russert. Brings the film down so much. The script didn't help but he finds himself lost between a batman villain and Javier bardem in no country for old men.

Wasted potential? 100% yes. There's an idea, a film which would keep the audience entertained but with the right screenwriters who can develop characters and the story.

Josh Duhnmel does what he can with the material available to him but ultimately falls flat due to the weak supporting cast (RICKY). I'm not even sure he understands what personality his character is suppose to be.

I hate focusing on one piece or person of the film but if it affects the whole film then you must be cruel to be kind.

Acting school? Highly recommend.

No thanks

I picked up Off The Grid thinking, "This could be good." This promised tension, action, and intrigue - all the ingredients for a decent watch. But what followed was one of the worst movie experiences I've sat through. And I've watched thousands.

The actor playing the "child catcher" was unintentionally comical - more pantomime villain than menacing threat. As for the so-called hero? Sure, he might look like a leading man, but any sense of screen presence or charisma was completely absent. A plank of wood might've offered more emotional range.

The plot? Barely there. The dialogue? Stiff and predictable. The pacing? Slower than a dial-up connection in 1998.

Do yourself a favour - stay clear.

You're welcome. ⭐

WTF?

There are no intentional spoilers because I have no idea what is going on. This series of video scenes is so bad I'd think it was an AI crap montage if I didn't see so many wrinkles on Greg Kinears face; no AI outputs that yet. He was an A lister! WTF happened to him? WTF is going on? Who is the silly pole dancer bar owner waitress town maitre di chick with her bimbo shorts, getting in everybody's business? The Javier wannabe with little girl hair I get is some kind of psychotic agent for some org. Who's the red neck Crocodile Dundiddn't? This is the lamest protagonist ever. I have no idea WTF his issue is or why he has a top secret fingerprint entry pad on a Home Depot shed with a bustable window in the front, and a laptop 2 feet from it. Who wrote this? The Little Rascals? I keep waiting for the MST3000 gang to show up and tell me it's all a gag. I want my 7 dollars back! I'm with Mr 1580 SAT hardware store guy - get me the Heck out of here!

Typical cat and mouse chase

It was a relatively fun ride, nothing really original, there were some moments of doubt. At about 1 hour and 20 min in, I was getting a little impatient, in fact I started to doze off. Anyways... Simple linear story, nothing too far fetched, easy to follow, Greg Kinear was fine, Josh played his role well, but overall it was a typical action movie with the ever so over done payoff, if your bored... give it a watch but don't go into this expecting a wild non stop action ride. The only reason I gave it a 6 star was "it was fun" just enough to keep you watching. If it wasn't cast with the 3 decent actors, I probably wouldn't have continued.

Ricky and Paul ruin it all.

Three talented actors trapped in a flaming mess of a film, thanks to some of the worst direction I've seen. I genuinely hope Josh, Greg, and Peter's careers come out unscathed after this disaster.

Like a train wreck, it was impossible to look away. Morbid curiosity kept me watching. I only finished it out of respect for the actors.

The director clearly skipped every tactical consultation that could've saved this joke of a production. I've seen middle schoolers playing airsoft with more discipline and realism than the so-called professionals onscreen.

And Paul? He should stick to whatever it was he did before acting-because this ain't it. His performance had me checking for hidden cameras. For a second, I thought this was an elaborate prank show.

Whoever greenlit his role must be blind, or maybe just confused by his expressionless, post-botox glare. The man couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.

The script didn't do anyone any favors either. Even seasoned actors struggled to breathe life into the garbage dialogue they were handed.

Honestly, this entire film felt like it was funded with misappropriated charitable donations for wounded tactical mannequins-with Paul as the prototype.

Brilliant Concept, Half Powered Execution

Science meets survival, but the spark doesn't always catch. In Off the Grid, Josh Duhamel stars as a brilliant scientist who invents a handheld clean energy generator, only to flee into seclusion when a morally bankrupt corporation tries to weaponise his creation. With limited resources and a ticking clock, he transforms the wilderness into a science lab battleground... guerrilla warfare meets intellectual ingenuity .

The hook is irresistible: a man of unparalleled intellect forced into a physical test of survival. Yet after a gripping setup, the pace falters into clichés. Action lite sequences and low budget feel begin to undercut the initial promise .

Duhamel delivers steady, soldierly restraint, but it's Greg Kinnear as the conflicted corporate enforcer who surprises most. His morally torn characterization hints at layers deeper than the script explores. Peter Stormare also delivers textured menace as Belcor, the mercenary leader-his screen presence elevates scenes that otherwise feel rote.

Director Johnny Martin, reuniting with screenwriter Jim Agnew, keeps the tone taut, but the narrative lacks risk taking. The film tries to riff on modern paranoia... technology exploited, corporations unchecked but never fully commits, leaving a sense of thematic incompleteness

Visually, Off the Grid utilises its Mississippi wilderness setting nicely... crisp, moody, and with a strong sense of place. But when the story pivots to chase scenes and gunfights, it loses that atmospheric edge.

Verdict: Off the Grid is a neatly built survival thriller with an intriguing premise and strong cast moments. Yet despite its high-minded idea and a few sparks of tension, it never fully powers up.

Worth a rental night in for Duhamel's grit and Kinnear's conflicted charm, but don't expect a genre redefining grid breakout.

Don't

Don't buy it!

Don't rent it!

And most of all, don't waste your time watching it!!!

Do not understand how executive producers get money to make this garbage.

The writing is horrible, the sets are horrible and the plot, wait a minute, what plot.

I knew when they opened the movie with the ending fight scene it would be down hill from there.

Why would 2 respectable actors want to be a part of this, have their careers went that far down hill?

The kid does a good job in a side role.

To be fair, it was so bad I couldn't watch the last 15 minutes.

But I truly don't care how it ended.

Wish I could get that hour and a half back and the $6 it cost to rent back.

Not particularly great...

Granted, I have to say that I figured that a movie with the likes of Josh Duhamel, Greg Kinnear and Peter Stormare would most likely prove entertaining, and thus I opted to watch the 2025 movie "Off the Grid" without ever having heard about it. Sure, the fact that it was a movie that I hadn't already seen also helped to sweeten the deal, adding to the fact that I would give the movie a fair chance.

Writer Jim Agnew didn't exactly put together the most exciting and riveting of storylines. Sure, it was watchable, but the pacing of the narrative served as an anchor around the foot of the movie, holding it back and making it a bit of a struggle to sit through 105 minutes of watching it. I wasn't particularly impressed with the contents of the script and storyline.

Aside from Josh Duhamel, Peter Stormare and Greg Kinnear, then I was only familiar with Michael Papajohn and David Lipper. The acting performances in the movie, despite the fact that the script wasn't particularly great, proved to actually be adequate.

While "Off the Grid" was a semi-watchable movie, it is hardly a movie that will grace my screen a second time.

My rating of director Johnny Martin's 2025 movie "Off the Grid" lands on a generous four out of ten stars.

Yep!

I really do not know why actors like Greg Kinnear and Peter Stormare are part of these kinds of low-budget movies. Bad movie, great two actors. I really respect them.

I will give three stars: 2 for the 2 actors i mentioned, and one for the quality of the script.

That's all, folks!

Have a great weekend!

Chases, Charm, and Castle Fights: Off the Grid Keeps It Fun

Off the Grid tells a simple story-a brilliant guy hiding out in a small town while being hunted-but it's the small-town charm and standout characters that pull you in. The chase scenes are well-paced and nicely shot, with lush greenery with a fight scene in a dramatic castle backdrop adding a cinematic touch.

Greg Kinnear is hilarious with his under-the-breath one-liners, while Josh Duhamel gives a strong, understated performance carried by action and expression. Newcomers Ricky Russert, Maria Elisa Camargo, and Michael Zapesotsky each shine in their roles, adding intrigue and heart to the story.

Overall, it's a fun, fast-moving film with just the right balance of suspense, humor, and visual appeal. A solid, entertaining watch.

Great Actors - Slow Execution

Decided to watch this movie based on he concept and the actor lineup. The director's intent seems to have been to give it the pace of the Equalizer. A slow steady execution with emphasis on skill. Unfortunately, it was a bit too slow and leaves the audience looking for it to speed up. It is an unfortunate miss which could have lead to a sequel if done properly. Duhamel and Kinnear are definitely on my fave list and drew me to watch and keep watching. Without them the movie is not really worth watching. No disrespect to some of the supporting actors.

All in all, the pace is what killed this movie and gave it more of a B status.
