Overall this series is watch worthy but there were times it tested my patience. I enjoyed Zhao Lusi's acting and her interaction with the ML who performed well too. The second ML and second FL was great to watch too. The tribulations & pain both Fl and ML went through were heavy and tear jerking. There are times I got impatient with Ml's character because he made some fundamental mistakes and decisions that led to deep misunderstandings. His character was rather immature initially and slowly he became worthy as a leader. I didn't like the repeated flashbacks that took quite a lot of time and that there seem to be never-ending repetitions of death and reincarnations when you thought the series should wrap up and leave some time for happy moments together. That's why I thought 30 episodes could have made the series more memorable than 40.
The foundation of this series is strong but there are severe cracks that begin to spread throughout. The characters and the backstory are intriguing and I enjoyed the development of the relationships of our main characters. I have watched many Xianxia dramas and this one is mid-level as it does not employ any deep plot themes and the character's actions do not support their supposed positions or status within their respective realms. It isn't necessarily a fluff piece, but it isn't of substance either. If you are looking for better writing, more intricate plots then I'd recommend something like Love & Redemption or The Mysterious Lotus Casebook. In Last Immortal there is only one strategist who is on the Devil side and all others are simply falling into line within this villain character. There is no counter to any ploys. There is no follow up to any mysteries/scheming, and they just confound to the point of chaos and confusion where I myself question if anyone has any wisdom at all. The elders don't even question anything - so there is no hierarchy within this show based on hierarchies of Immortal, Demon, Devil, True God. I say the writing is the culprit because we have all the ingredients for a 10/10 show but the infuriating way the writers took it detracts so much from the story. There are no character arcs that have any depth. So if you want a surface level Xianxia then this one has a good story line of friendship and the lessons seem to be about people pleasing and the costs of not listening to your own truth. There isn't really a lot of adventure, and so hopefully you enjoy a bit of politics. Overall good but could have been much better and the poor development made me write the review - not the enjoy-ability which speaks volumes.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I WAS ABLE TO FINISH A XANXIA/FANTASY C-DRAMA.
Initially, I only wanted to watch it for Zhao Lusi. Knowing her, she always gives justice to all the roles she plays. This is also her first xanxia drama so it was refreshing to see her execute such role.
As expected, she definitely played her role well. NOT ONLY HER, but also the rest of the casts. Gosh!!! Wang Anyu is such a good actor. He displayed such a powerful and charming aura which I believe one of the vital points of playing his role. I didn't know him before The Last Immortal, but I'd definitely start following his journey after this together with Zhao Lusi.
Furthermore, the other casts were such an awesome actors as well. They complements each others' roles. The friendship, the character developments, the improvements all throughout the episodes, the transformations, the angst, the NEVER-ENDING twists. THIS IS A MUST WATCH.

I am new to Xianxia genre, it's definitely not my favorite. I wanted to give TLI a try since I dropped so many Xianxia in the past, didn't think that I'd binge watch all the episodes in a few days. I am loving the story (easy for me to follow), the acting, the beautifully detailed costumes, pleasing cinematography (not too overly saturated) and color grading. I actually went back and rewatched ep 1 and 2 while waiting for new episodes. I'm looking forward to see how the story unfolds even with the coming angst. If anyone who is new to Xianxia, please consider watching TLI. Love the water beast baby Ayin!
Everything in this film was so predictable. From the first episode it was so obvious the lowly water immortal beast was going to be the Phoenix Queen. It was so frustrating to watch the ML blame his tribulations on the FL when she had nothing to do with the situation - she was passed out and sick. He goes on to kill FL, never once defends her while she's a lowly immortal water beast, but the moment she becomes a top ranking Demi god Phoenix Queen, ML is now invested and keen to marry her... whoa, this was just terrible to watch. But apparently this is "Love". 3 stars for good acting between the supporting characters but there was no chemistry between FL and ML.
