Like other past games, there are What if scenarios prompted by choices to change the flow of the Dragon Ball timeline.

In one possible timeline, Piccolo keeps Goku from fighting 19 and trains Gohan; allowing Goku to fight Cell in his place. This leads to two different paths. One is where Gohan canonical loses control of his ego in Super Saiyan 2. Another had Piccolo train Gohan to discipline his mind to master his emotions; allowing Gohan to kill Cell and keep Goku alive.

This game has 182 playable characters, more than any other fighting game, surpassing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018), with 89 characters, including DLC. Technically, Tobal No. 2 (1997) has more characters, 200, but that game allows players to turn NPCs into fighters, making them more like skins than characters.

In one possible timeline, Gohan unlocks his lost Ultimate potential and defeats Freeza in the Resurrection F Saga. Leading to him resuming training and joining the Universe 6 Saga tournament in place of Buu. Thus never allowing Goku to use his Super Saiyan Blue/Kaioken technique against Hit.

This leads to Zamasu choosing to take Gohan's body instead; creating Gohan Black. Unlike the Canon events, Fused Zamasu is sealed away by the Evil Containment Wave and given to Whis for safe keeping.

Kyle Herbert shows range with voicing lower pitched iterations of Gohan; never once sounding similar to his Bleach character Sosuke Aizen.

In all his match openings, Gohan Beast speaks in a softer tone. Unless against his younger self or Cell; in which case he shows amusement. Gohan Black speaks in an almost emotionless, icy manner; contrasting the more bombastic Goku Black.
