Very interesting premise, and one that's not usually aesthetically touched on in anime very often. Seeing lovecraft (like actual cthulhu mythos stuff) in an anime is a welcome surprise, but the material really tries to lean hard away from what actually made a lot of those stories any good. The cosmic horror aspect of it all is mostly lost, except for jokes here and there (which granted are pretty funny), and the grotesque and strange monster/deity designs of the lovecraft world rarely make an appearance. The characters are pretty one-note, but it's an absurd comedy so it mostly works. Would've been a little nice to see them fleshed out more, as it would make Mahiro's change of heart towards Nyaruko a little more believable. Really catchy theme though, and Kuko is based. Would watch again maybe.

I started reading Lovecraft books when I was 12-14ish. I enjoy the depictions of deities aged how accurate it is despite them being anime magical girls (which is the joke that even the most hideous and terrifying beings can be cute in anime). My only issue is that there isn't more of it. The ending felt incomplete and I wanted to see more Lovecraftian deities fleshed out. Like they talked about Azathoth but no anime boy Azathoth.

I loved the characters.
I like the way they play with the fourth wall.
Each character has their role and the vast majority are very charismatic and with good jokes. Some of my favorite characters were Kuko, Hasuta, Mahiro, Yoriko Yasaka and Tamao Kurei.
But without a doubt the character that steals the show is Nyaruko San, a super fun, flirtatious and cute character. I find interesting the idea that they use Lovecraft's literature to explain the motives of the characters, in conclusion super entertaining and very nice if what you are looking for is a romantic comedy story with touches of action and science fiction. In the same way I consider it an entertaining and relaxing story.
