Compared to the first season, the secondary characters are very weak. The character Thanos is very annoying and his acting is also disgusting. We did not delve deeply into their story or get to know them well. The ending is bad and unrealistic. You feel that making the second season took them a maximum of a month. The games in this season are also bad, especially the second game after Killer Doll. I would have liked to see what happened to the main character's daughter, or for him to come and visit his daughter, but the producers completely marginalized the main character's family. In short, the second season is disappointing in all respects.

After three years of waiting, we finally received Squid Game: Season 2.
And?
Although it features an interesting variety of characters, and explores new games, it still feels unfinished and boring.
The plot itself is really confusing, and seemingly unfinished, as I really did not know, whether I should laugh or feel sad at the same time. In my opinion, mixing drama with comedy can't really work well, unless perfectly executed. And here, it clearly was not.
The cliffhanger at the very end of the seventh episode was to me, confusing and mostly, unnecessary.
The difference between the first and second season is quite large, and I sincerely do hope that Netflix will do something with it in the upcoming third season.
Simply put, Squid Game: Season 2 has a lot of wasted potential.

Title: Disappointing Follow-Up to a Groundbreaking Series
Squid Game 2 falls flat in every conceivable way, failing to capture the raw tension and intrigue of its predecessor. The new games are uninspired and lack the creativity that originally hooked audiences, feeling plodding and unimaginative instead. The plot seems aimless, with character motivations that are muddled at best, leaving viewers scratching their heads rather than invested in the story. The once-brilliant commentary on society's ills is now muddied, making it hard to take anything seriously. Overall, this sequel feels like a cash grab rather than a genuine continuation of a compelling narrative, leaving fans of the first season deeply disappointed.

Season 1 should have remained untouched. After its worldwide success, meeting viewers' expectations was bound to be challenging. This new version suffers from too much dialogue, while the final shootout drags on. I expected more thrilling games-the tension just wasn't there. The police officer's search for the island felt predictable and drawn out. Thanos's performance comes across as melodramatic, and there's a glaring plot hole: why would they allow him to keep his pills while taking away the main characters' tracker? The characters closely resemble their season one counterparts, making the plot too predictable. The season lacked energy and impact. I'm interested to see how they wrap everything up in the final season.

The first season of Squid Game was a groundbreaking cultural phenomenon. Its razor-sharp social commentary, compelling characters, and intense survival games captured the hearts of millions around the globe. It set the bar incredibly high for storytelling in the thriller genre. Unfortunately, Squid Game Season 2 not only fails to meet those expectations but also undermines much of what made the first season so memorable.
From the start, the second season struggles to recapture the magic of its predecessor. The plot feels forced and overly convoluted, relying on contrived twists and recycled ideas from the first season. Instead of building on the philosophical and moral dilemmas that made the first season so impactful, Season 2 opts for unnecessary complexity and shallow attempts at shock value. The result is a narrative that feels disjointed and hollow, lacking the emotional depth that made the original so compelling.
The character development, one of the strongest aspects of the first season, is glaringly absent. New characters are introduced, but few are given enough time or depth to resonate with the audience. Meanwhile, returning characters feel like mere shadows of their former selves, stripped of the nuances that made them relatable. Their decisions often seem out of character, driven by the plot rather than organic growth.
Visually, the series retains its trademark aesthetic, but even the dazzling production design and intense game sequences can't save the season from feeling like an empty spectacle. The tension that made the first season so gripping is replaced by predictable scenarios and an over-reliance on gratuitous violence. Instead of meaningful stakes, the games feel like an afterthought, included more out of obligation than creative inspiration.
Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of Squid Game Season 2 is how it squanders the opportunity to expand on the first season's themes. The commentary on societal inequality, desperation, and human nature is reduced to surface-level observations. What was once a sharp critique of the modern world now feels like a diluted version of itself, devoid of the urgency and poignancy that made it so powerful.
In the end, Squid Game Season 2 feels like a rushed cash grab, capitalizing on the success of the original without offering anything new or meaningful. It's a stark reminder of how difficult it is to follow up on perfection. For fans who cherished the first season, this sequel is not just a disappointment-it's a betrayal of what Squid Game once stood for. A true misstep that leaves viewers longing for the brilliance of the original and questioning whether some stories are better left untouched.

Was the acting as bad as this in the last one? It feels completely over the top (Hamming it up for the camera). The story is a little bit weak and predictable and doesn't draw you in. The guy 'Thanos' really ruins it and made me want to turn off with his woeful acting.
Initially I thought only seven episodes, that's not long enough but believe me the generic nature of this average sequel will have you thanking the makers that they didn't make any more.
Surely this will be the end of this franchise as it certainly didn't live up to the first one.
If you want to watch a 'little' bit more of the first one then you might enjoy this but without the mystery it felt like a waste of time.

I don't understand the negative responses from other viewers but I can give all praises to the story and acting! I really loved it and I highly recommend this TV show.
The actors and actresses did a very good job. I can definitely feel the emotions of the characters being portrayed. The story is unpredictable in my opinion. I'm glad they showed a back story of one of the guards. Also, the new games puts me at the edge of my sit. I was shaking while watching what will happen.
Although the ending is a cliffhanger, I am happy that I have something to look forward to on the next season. Lots of awesome plot twists.

Between the boat captain action in the last episode, the number of games remaining to do...
It is not possible that's the end of season 2, if so, it does not make sense unless they have a season 3 ready or keep 2-3 episodes under their arm for the Chinese new-year.
Squid Game Season 2 is not devoid of merit; it offers moments of entertainment and strong performances.
However, it struggles under the weight of its own expectations and fails to deliver the same level of intrigue and emotional resonance that captivated us in its first season. While it may still be enjoyable for fans, it ultimately feels like a step back rather than a forward progression in storytelling.
Having said that, the initial episodes introduce compelling moral dilemmas and character dynamics reminiscent of what made Season 1 captivating. The exploration of themes like greed and justice remains relevant, as well as a new view on the "guards" characters, especially that "triangle", which now we know what are the specialties of each circle, square, and triangle.

It started in detective mode, first 2 episodes were boring. Then story progresses with 2 parallel storylines similar to season one where protagonist is stucked in the game and one character is trying to rescue. But at the end nothing is added to the plot, it begins with many stories but at the end they remained unanswered. Every step of the protagonist was a trash but as an audience we think that okay it will make sense at the end but that doesn't happen. Everyone betrays-mission failed and end of the story. It is created to milk from the success of previous season. I wasted my time watching this.

We are blessed they made it again. Let us just be grateful. Mind-blowing! Squid Game S2 exceeds expectations. Gripping storyline, intense games, and outstanding performances. Characters' depth and development are impressive. Social commentary is thought-provoking.
Hwang Dong-hyuk's vision is genius! The cast delivers emotional depth, making each character relatable. Themes of class struggle, humanity, and redemption are expertly woven. Each episode is a masterclass in suspense and storytelling. A true masterpiece!"Cinematography. Excellent. I hate people who are ungrateful and give low scores.

This season was just a part of what's coming. Originally, the idea was that there would only be 1 season extra: season 2. But because the fans couldn't wait and it took so long to make, they have now split up season 2 into two different seasons: season 2 and 3. I know people don't like it there is such a cliffhanger and there were only a couple new and accusing things. But this season is just to a warm up and a start to a banger of a season I hope. This season is just really important for the story line. Although this season didn't really bring very much, I still really liked it. New games, new characters, new background stories. But also now we get to know how it works behind the scenes of the game. We get to know how the guards work and there is now a main villain we can all identify and hate. I think this season was just in between 2 seasons so that season 3 will be an absolute banger. And still I liked it.

Like a lot of people my family loved the first series, we binged watched it and couldn't wait for the second season...
What a mess they have made of this!
It is nothing but filer for the most part, the story makes very little sense and the characters are unlikable at best.
I'm only being generous giving it a 3 as there was one episode were it somewhat resembled the first series, as in they actually played some games.
I actually said during a couple of the episodes at about halfway through.. "What a bore, there is nothing happening".
Even that last episode when there was some action going on it wasn't the action you want to see in Squid Games, more like the action you see in some B movie.
What a massive shame!
Give this a miss!

I think it should be allowed to fill the required characters just by writing blah, blah, blah blah blah, after all this second season seems to have changed the original premise to an endless game of yapping.
Other than that obvious things from the first season, this one won't fill up any plot holes, but to create more. The characters and situations are too similar to the original and expanding on the personal psychodrama doesn't create tension or intensity but anxiety and boredom.
The silly music, I'm guessing with the intention of making a scene campy only pushes it to corny.
There's almost no action, and I could compare this to a Hispanic telenovela.
Very disappointed.

Let me make a different point in this review. There has never been any critique to the capitalist system on squid game, as some may have thought. Ruthless rich exploting people's despair and need for money, much like the current capitalism. The systems that forces us to fight against each other, the poors against the poors. The surveillance and control to manipulate us, and whatever you may see from this game. This was just a delusion. This season is so bad that it even ruins some of the meanings of the first season. There is indeed a huge blind spot in the plot. The protagonist Seong Gi-hun can't be so dumb. It is, make no mistake, but it cannot be this one. He accepts passively all the game to see people dying, losing the possibility to end the game only for a bunch of votes and HE HAS NEVER THOUGHT TO OFFER TO PAY OTHER PLAYERS'S DEBTS WITH ALL HIS DIRTY UNSPENT BILLIONS? This was a much obvious, but meaningful plot. Not apathy first and gunfires later but redemption for all. This is the squid game the world will never watch.
They didn't even develop the antagonists. THERE IS NO INTEREST ON THE RICH WHO ARE FUNDING AND ENJOYING SQUID GAME? No, there is no effort to explore this fundamental aspect, at all. Completely untouched and forgotten. This is even more disappointing.
The rest has been already said: poor plot, bad games, slow, redundant patterns, irrelevant stories, stupid final, and so many other flaws and missed opportunities.
The success of the first season seems now undeserved. The writers were not genius. It was all just pure, meaningless entertainment.

We were set up for an epic storyline that would take the protagonist to the heart of the Games, not just on the playing ground, but to the masterminds behind it. You can fast forward through the entire season and nothing new happens that did not happen in season 1. Even if you watch Episode 7 you still don't see the protagonist uncovering anything new about the Games.
Instead we get a cardboard protagonist with no character arc, side characters that have the same archetypes as Season 1, the same type of betrayals, games that aren't really that shocking the second time of round (S1, the glass bridge and rope game were high stakes, pitting human strife/greed vs. The direct consequence of that. S2 is just, "you make a mistake you get shot.")
With Netflix's over inflated marketing budget for this show, you'd think we would see something different this time, like, the games on a much grander scale across the world, given that these are run by billionaires. Or some type of government corruption behind it. But no, it's just the same old thing. The same old police chase.
The over acting doesn't help matters. It feels like the actors are playing caricatures rather than trying to represent real human emotions.
Overall, this season does not introduce anything new to the show's original conversation about class and human nature. It's just milking the show for all its worth. And maybe that really is the point of this season as a joke on the audience: capitalism will make you think you want a product even if it has no value.

This was bad. Like real bad.
Season 1 was one of my favorite shows of all time. I had watched interviews from the creators saying how it was so important for them to get Season 2 right since Season 1 gave people high expectations.
Unfortunately, they failed.
I pretty much forced myself to continue watching past episode 4, but I'm truly disappointed by how lazy and uninspired it his sequel to season 1.
Wish they just held the similar game in another country in a white lotus season 1 vs season 2 vs season 3 sort of way.
This will def be the last season I feel once Netflix looks at the analytics and based on the bad reviews this will inevitably get.

I thought this was a highly entertaining sequel. Seems a lot of the low ratings are from bigots who didn't like that there was a trans character this time around. Well, that's exactly why more diversity needs to be displayed so more people can see there are different types of people in all walks of life.
Binged watched the whole series and was not disappointed although I do agree the ending left something to be desired. Also somewhat unbelievable that the O characters want to go on after what they witness. Everyone just seemed a little too blase about their situation. Otherwise I thought it was really great and would recommend!

More deep season, it plays with characters emotions much more but I think there should be more episodes to fullify the season 2. Main character is still the same but he is more brave and more confident. There are also some new things in the rules and games are more complicated but there are no shown all six games. However, I watched the whole season yesterday evening and today morning so it is keeping you woth the screen. But othervise, I was thinking it will be more brutal than the first season. They say season 3 is coming in 2025 and probably that will be the last season. I can't wait to see the end, hopefully won't be dissappointed.

The new season has more insight, old and new games, more character development and new twists and character.
The cinematography is top noche, the ost clever and the editing even better than in season 1. The crew and cast delivered hard and made the best second season possible. Fully leaning into fandom and fan requests without becoming lame or boring.
The people who hate on it here in the reviews are your usual right wing trolls who are bored bc the eras tour ended and there is no new Barbie movie to focus their hate on.
They would hate on the show no matter what, just for fun.
Just watch and find your own option.
Have fun!

Kim Joo-ryung acting is sooo sooooo bad ! My god! Who cast her?? Should be fired!!
This second season is not as half as good or exciting as the first one , it's actually running on my TV while I'm writing this ! Yes it sucks that much .
Most of the material is recycled! Over and over!
If if wasn't for the first one I wouldn't have tried to watch the second one . I'm giving it a chance to see what happens! Nothing amazing till now.
. Such a pity.. I was hoping for so much more.
I thought they would come up with new games to blow our minds , not recycled old ideas , ones we already saw ! Why ?

It is an insult to the artist to split this piece of work into two mini seasons in a clear attempt to milk fans of more money. It's very clear to me (this is my personal assumption) that this was not wrote with the intention of being two seasons. For that reason I am cancelling my Netflix subscription out of principal and will find other means of viewing the third "season" when it's released.
Besides this major problem, I thought it was shaping up to be a fantastic sequel- albeit much slower paced than the first, especially in the beginning. I still appreciate and respect what the writer is doing creatively with this sequel. Unfortunately it gets cut short right around when things start to get really good. My rating reflects my opinion of the art ONLY.

It's very boring. There is only violence and no fun. Total waste of time. Seriously? There is a crazy fan base for this SQuid Game and I didn't expect this level of laziness of director. They only went for money because they knew they will get viewers due to the existing fan base but now those fan are lost.
Ending is the worse. The whole movie feels like AI generated very dull.
After I finished watching it I feel bad I wasted my time for this junk. I don't want to write more than this but this review system still says not enough character. Let me add an ai generated conclusion below.
In conclusion, Squid Game fails to live up to the expectations set by its original fan base. The over-reliance on violence, lack of creativity, and uninspired storytelling leave the viewer feeling disappointed and robbed of their time. The laziness of the direction and the apparent focus on exploiting the existing popularity for financial gain ultimately alienates its audience. The dull, AI-like execution and a poorly conceived ending seal its fate as an underwhelming sequel that fails to honor the legacy of its predecessor.

I really enjoyed Season 1 of Squid Game and was anxiously awaiting season 2 . I was hoping for something similar with different characters and different games. Season 2 started with too much side story, before the games even started. The vessel on the water wasn't necessary in my opinion and dragged the story on. It surprised me how much more violence and gore there was with this season. If anyone read up on Squid Game, they would know that this season ends with a cliff hanger because season 3 had already been approved. The plot was easy to follow and you could pretty much tell what was going to happen. I can understand why this season got such a poor rating.
