Image
The timeless adventure that is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz gets a horrifying twist in first-look images from the new film, Wicked of Oz. The slasher film is directed by Aaron Mirtes and reimagines the fantastical Land of Oz as a brutal, blood-soaked nightmare, where familiar characters like the Tin Man and Glinda aren't guides, but killers instead.

Deadline has just released the first images for Wicked of Oz, which showcase Dorothy Gale trapped in a savage land, facing death at every turn. 'Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3' Adds the Filmmaker Behind Nicolas Cage's 'Color Out of Space'
Image
Bring out the chainsaws… Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is officially in the works. The third installment in the Blood and Honey franchise and sixth in the overall Twisted Childhood Universe (Tcu). The first Blood and Honey movie came out in 2023 after the beloved characters entered the public domain, and has since spawned a franchise with several other characters like Peter Pan, Bambi, Pinocchio, and more for an ultimate crossover film.

A new report confirmsWinnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 aims to film in 2026 and has found a surprising writer in Richard Stanley, the scribe whose credits include Color Out of Space, Dust Devil, Hardware, and more, making him a perfect fit for the franchise. Color Out of Space is regarded as one of the films that spearheaded Nicolas Cage's industry comeback, but Stanley himself became the subject of controversy due to past allegations. Regardless, Scott Chambers,...

Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey 3's Controversial Writer Raises All Kinds Of Questions
Image
One of the most unlikely success stories in film in recent years is undoubtedly "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey." Directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, the ultra-low-budget slasher movie, which put a violent spin on A.A. Milne's beloved creations, went viral before the movie even arrived. It took off like a rocket, spawning an entire so-called Twisted Childhood Universe from the folks at Jagged Edge Productions. Part of that includes "Blood and Honey 3," which has just brought aboard a new, albeit controversial, screenwriter.

According to Variety, Richard Stanley has been tapped to pen the script for "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3," which is set to begin filming early next year. Scott Chambers, who produced the first two movies, is now set to direct the third installment, with Frake-Waterfield staying on board as a producer. The new entry is also said to carry a bigger budget than the first two,...

'Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3' Taps 'Color Out of Space' Writer
Image
Hold onto your honey pots, because the third installment of one of horror's most bizarre franchises is officially underway, and it's tapped a screenwriter to pen the project who knows a thing or two about unconventional stories. We're talking about Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3, the new sequel from Jagged Edge Productions which comes hot off the hooves of last month's release of Bambi: The Reckoning. Together with movies like Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare and Pinocchio: Unstrung, the over-the-top horror offerings based on beloved children's IPs make up the Twisted Childhood Universe.

Variety reports that Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 has enlisted the services of writer Richard Stanley, who penned the scripts for 1996's The Island of Dr. Moreau and the 2019 Nicolas Cage/H.P. Lovecraft sci-fi horror, Color Out of Space. Production on the latest Pooh film is set to get underway next year, and like the previous entries in the series,...

Richard Stanley
Richard Stanley is writing Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3
Richard Stanley
A year has gone by since we heard that Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 was moving ahead. It was said that this sequel will have a bigger budget than either of its predecessors, and “will introduce new characters from the original Winnie-the-Pooh stories, including Rabbit, the heffalumps and the woozles.” Now, Variety has learned who’s writing the screenplay – and it’s quite an unexpected choice. The writer of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 is Richard Stanley, the filmmaker known for writing and directing Hardware, writing and directing Dust Devil, and co-writing and almost directing The Island of Dr. Moreau, but getting fired and replaced by director John Frankenheimer four days into production. Stanley appeared to be making a long-awaited comeback with his 2019 H.P. Lovecraft adaptation Color Out of Space, but then came multiple domestic violence allegations and a libel lawsuit against his accusers.

‘Color Out of Space’ Filmmaker Richard Stanley to Write ‘Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3’
Image
Color Out of Space and Hardware filmmaker Richard Stanley has been tapped to write Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3, Variety reports.

The latest installment in the Poohniverse is set to enter production in early 2026 from Jagged Edge Productions.

Jagged Edge’s Scott Chambers, who produced the first two Blood and Honey films and helmed the recent Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, will take over directing duties from Rhys Frake-Waterfield, who will produce.

“I am wildly excited to be joining Scott Chambers and his creative team as screenwriter on the mind-wrenching third installment of a beloved, blood-soaked saga that has revitalized independent genre film production in the U.K.,” said Stanley. “The Hundred Acre Wood will never be the same again!”

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Color Out of Space and all of Richard’s work,” Chambers added. “Now, with the third installment underway, I can’t wait...

‘Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3’ Taps ‘Color Out of Space’ Writer Richard Stanley to Pen Script (Exclusive)
Image
The third installment in the IP-slaying low-budget slasher “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” franchise is getting into bloody gear.

“Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3” — first announced last year by Variety — has landed Richard Stanley as its writer, with production set to kick off in early 2026. ITN Studios and Premiere Entertainment are handling sales on the feature.

The sequel comes from prolific horror banner Jagged Edge Productions, which scored an unexpected smash hit with the first “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” in 2023. Made for less than $50,000, the film became a cultural talking point for transforming A.A. Milne’s beloved bear into a sledgehammer-wielding serial killer, and earned more than $5 million at the global box office.

Jagged Edge’s Scott Chambers and Rhys Frake-Waterfield return for “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3,” with Chambers — who produced the first two films — taking over from Frake-Waterfield in the director’s chair. Frake-Waterfield this time produces.

‘Bambi: The Reckoning’ Review
Image
Stars: Roxanne McKee, Samira Mighty, Nicola Wright, Tom Mulheron, Catherine Adams, Russell Geoffrey Banks, Joseph Greenwood, Alex Cooke, Adrian Relph, Ewan Borthwick, Luke Cavendish | Written by Felix Salten, Rhys Warrington | Directed by Dan Allen

The reimagined tale at the heart of Bambi: The Reckoning, the latest horror entry in the “Twisted Childhood Universe”, trades nostalgia for brutality, offering a savage reinterpretation of a once-innocent woodland icon. The story flips expectations, turning a symbol of gentleness into a merciless force of nature. As with others in this trend of corrupted folklore, it’s less about honouring the source material and more about pushing it into grotesque, sometimes laughably extreme, territory. Depending on your appetite for this kind of genre fare, it will either strike as a wild bit of pulp fun, or an uninspired attempt to wring attention from familiar childhood memories. Unfortunately, this one leans more toward the latter.

Jim Cummings on Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey - Iconic Voice Actor Shares Thoughts
Image
Jim Cummings shares his thoughts on Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. Cummings is one of the most prolific Pooh bear actors. He first voiced the character in the 1983 short film Winnie-the-Pooh and a Day for Eeyore. He then went on to voice the character in every episode of The New Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh.

As for Blood and Honey, the movie is a two-film mascot horror series directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield. It takes the lovable characters from Winnie-the-Pooh and turns them into blood-lusting killers as they go on a hunt for new food. The first Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey movie was released in 2023, and the second came out one year later in 2024.

Speaking with The Direct, Cummings reflects on his thoughts on Blood and Honey. The actor said simply that he doesn't "really have an opinion of it" because he has not seen the full film. He says that it is "kind...

Bambi Goes Berserk: Poohniverse Scores First Critical Win with Bloody Horror Reboot
Image
Bambi: The Reckoning is here, and it’s making more noise than anyone expected. The 2025 British horror flick reimagines the classic story of Bambi in the most brutal way yet. Directed by Dan Allen and written by Rhys Warrington, the film is part of the Twisted Childhood Universe (Tcu), which is known for turning beloved childhood characters into nightmare fuel.

This time, Bambi isn’t the sweet forest creature we remember. After witnessing his mother’s death, he goes on a violent rampage. The film follows a mother and her son who find themselves in his path. Roxanne McKee stars alongside Tom Mulheron, Nicola Wright, and others, in a cast that brings this bloody tale to life.

Filming kicked off in London in January 2024 and wrapped in just under a month. The movie hit U.S. theaters on July 25, 2025. It’s the fourth entry in the Tcu and the first...

‘Poohniverse’ Finally Wins Over Critics with Its Best-Reviewed Film Yet
Image
Bambi: The Reckoning, a new British horror film from director Dan Allen and writer Rhys Warrington, is giving people a very different look at the forest. The movie reimagines the story of Bambi as a dark, violent tale of revenge. This is the fourth film in the Twisted Childhood Universe, also known as the Poohniverse, and according to critics, it might be the best one so far.

The story follows a mother and her young son who get trapped in the woods and end up being hunted by Bambi, who’s gone feral after witnessing the death of his own mother. It’s a brutal take on Felix Salten’s original novel, but one that leans all the way into horror, gore, and twisted nostalgia.

The film was first teased in late 2022, and it was later revealed that it would be part of the same shared universe as the previous...

Bambi: The Reckoning Sequel Chances Addressed By Director As Franchise Gears Up For Avengers-Level Crossover
Image
Bambi: The Reckoningdirector Dan Allenaddresses a potential sequel, ahead of the Avengers-style crossover. The Twisted Childhood Universe, known mainly for Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, continues reimagining beloved characters. The latest entry, depicting a gruesome version of Bambi, a Life in the Woods, premiered on July 25.

The horror movie, produced by Rhys Frake-Waterfield of Blood and Honey fame, centers on a grieving deer who becomes violent and pursues humans after his mother is killed. The cast of Bambi: The Reckoning includes Roxanne McKee, Tom Mulheron, Samira Mighty, Nicola Wright, and Russell Geoffrey Banks.

In an interview with ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns, Allen addressed a possible Bambi: The Reckoning sequel. Despite ideas about potential kill scenes, Allen explained that a sequel has not been discussed because of the timeframe surrounding Bambi: The Reckoning.

Since the Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble crossover is being prepared, he teased that sequel discussions could happen, but may not necessarily be confirmed so soon.

Bambi: The Reckoning Review: Nature’s Vengeance is a Vicious Beast
Image
The global cinematic trend of twisting childhood tales into horror narratives finds a raw, aggressive voice in Bambi: The Reckoning. This film reframes the classic story of loss not as a lesson in survival, but as the origin story for a formidable avenger.

It taps into a revenge theme that is archetypal, echoing the righteous fury seen in the “angry young man” films that defined an era of Indian cinema. Here, the famously orphaned deer returns as a monstrous force of nature, his grief festering into a singular, violent purpose.

The story begins with a mother, Xana, and her son, Benji, stranded in a remote forest after their car crashes. They are immediately hunted by a mutated deer, the physical embodiment of the woods’ rage. A stark animated prologue establishes the source of this fury—the killing of Bambi’s mother—setting a gritty, serious tone that rejects campy parody for straight-faced creature horror.

Bambi: The Reckoning Director Confirms Two Classic Characters Have Sneaky Roles In New Horror Movie
Image
Bambi: The Reckoningis the latest entry in the Twisted Childhood Universe, which began in 2023 with Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. The new film will be a horror-inspired take on Disney's classic Bambi story, directed by Dan Allen with a script by Rhys Warrington. The story of Bambi: The Reckoning centers around a mutated deer who embarks on a journey of revenge.

The trailer for Bambi: The Reckoningpromises something veering far away from the animated movie, using the same bloody gore and supernatural atmosphere that made Blood and Honey such a widely discussed project upon its release. Bambi: The Reckoning will also lead directly into next year's upcoming team-up event, Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble.

Speaking with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns, Dan Allen confirmed that Bambi won't be the only familiar character in his twisted Disney adaptation. While Bambi: The Reckoning will obviously be very different from Disney’s Bambi, the...

‘The Institute’ Review: Intrigue and the Supernatural Take a Backseat in New Stephen King Adaptation
Stephen King at an event for Sob o Domínio do Mal (2004)
It feels like every year, a new Stephen King novel is given the adaptation treatment, usually for the big screen. With a bibliography so large (King has already released six books this decade), the author’s work continues to have a grip on modern audiences. But, with so many of his works adapted into such iconic films, the television landscape has always lacked King’s terrifying touch. This is where MGM+’s new series The Institute comes in, based on King’s 2019 bestseller of the same name. The series follows Luke Ellis (Joe Freeman), a gifted high-school student whose genius isn’t particularly nurtured at his school. Where his fellow classmates struggle, he flies through common tests with ease, finishing in record time with a bored look on his face. But, it’s clear that there’s something more to Luke, and would it really be a Stephen King adaptation if there wasn’t?...

‘Bambi: The Reckoning’ Review – The Best Public Domain Horror Movie So Far
Image
As other “Twisted Childhood Universe” (Tcu) a.k.a. “Poohniverse” movies sit in the shadows, eagerly awaiting their turn to come forth and ruin your precious childhood, Dan Allen unleashes the first bona fide creature feature in the series. Don’t expect a bipedal, humanoid and verbal take on the beloved Bambi here. Quite the opposite, the star of Bambi: The Reckoning stays on all fours, doesn’t speak, and maintains some semblance of a real buck as he tears through the English countryside and builds up an impressive body count.

Before its namesake can go wild on anyone who crosses his path, Bambi: The Reckoning gets a few preliminaries out of the way. First off, a crude yet succinct animated prologue lays out the reimagined origins of the titular character, leaving the remainder of the movie to focus on the monster mayhem rather than dwell on any element of inquiry.

Image
The Twisted Childhood Universe has seen the retelling of childhood classics, such as Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan. The fourth installment is a retelling of Felix Salten’s Bambi, a Life in the Woods, titled Bambi: The Reckoning. Rhys Warrington penned the script (also set to write Awakening Sleeping Beauty) with Dan Allen directing.

Soon after the accident, they are hunted down by Bambi, a grief-stricken deer on a deadly rampage as they seek revenge for the death of his mother. The film stars Game of Thrones actress Roxanne McKee and Tom Mulheron.

The 5 Most Important Horror News Stories of the Week Ending 7/11/25!

Running Bloody Disgusting at a time when the horror genre is exploding at the seams with New Things To Report is a good problem to have, but it’s also a hell of a lot of work. And it can admittedly be frustrating hopping from one story to the next in an attempt to keep up, leaving us with little time to inject our opinions into the daily news stories we’re posting.

So as the Editor-in-Chief of Bloody Disgusting, I wanted to start taking an hour or so every week to Slow Down on a Friday afternoon and recap some of the most interesting news stories that you might’ve scrolled past in the last several days. I also wanted to take a moment to actually share my thoughts on some of this stuff, which I often have precious little time to really do during these increasingly hectic weeks.

Disney's Iconic Minnie Mouse Gets a Dark Transformation in Latest Public Domain Slasher
Image
The twisted horror trend of beloved childhood characters turning into murderous figures carries on. Minnie Mouse is the latest Disney icon to trade in spreading cheer for a thirst for blood, thanks to copyright law. She joins the likes of Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Peter Pan, Bambi, and others in a growing public-domain horror genre. Per Deadline, filming on the low-budget slasher Minnie's Midnight Massacre has wrapped.

Written and directed by Brett Bentman (90 Feet From Home), this feature sees Minnie embarking on a "killing spree when seeking revenge against the childhood bullies who tortured her as a teenager." Hannah Huston (Stiletto) stars in the feature, and a first-look image reveals someone (who may or may not be Huston) donning a Minnie mask, complete with a blood-splattered white tulle skirt, and clutching a knife. Check it out below.

Minnie Mouse entered the public domain on January 1, 2024, after making her debut in 1928's animated Steamboat Willie.

Mickey Mouse is Killing YouTubers in Trailer for Latest Public Domain Exploitation Slasher 'I Heart Willie'
Image
Mickey Mouse is the latest classic character to receive a horror makeover, thanks to the public domain. Following the somewhat successful (more on that later) Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, filmmakers are rushing to turn beloved childhood figures (now void of copyright restrictions) into nightmare-inducing characters. One of the most recent features to make its way into the public domain genre isI Heart Willie, which takes its cues from Disney's 1928 Steamboat Willie, the first movie to feature the iconic Mickey Mouse.

I Heart Willie is described as a "chilling origin story" that "presents genre fans with a sinister reimagining of one of the most iconic cartoon characters in history, along with one of the most horrifying love stories of the year." It follows YouTubers Daniel and Nico as they visit an allegedly haunted location to investigate a legend about a boy with deformities who resembles a "human-mouse hybrid" and served as the inspiration for Steamboat Willie.

Murder Comes to the Hundred Acre Wood in ‘Piglet’
Image
The public domain continues to provide fertile ground for horror reinterpretations of beloved children’s characters. Following in the footsteps of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey and its expanding cinematic universe, a new low-budget slasher simply titled Piglet arrives this week with a digital release on June 2. Distributed in the UK by The Move Partnership, the film will be available to rent or buy via Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Sky Store, Google and YouTube.

Directed by Andrea M. Catinella and written by Harry Boxley, Piglet reimagines A.A. Milne’s anxious, soft-spoken woodland companion as a hulking killer. Alexander Butler plays the human-pig hybrid antagonist, whose appearance evokes the grotesque design style popularised in the so-called Twisted Childhood Universe, though this film is not officially connected to Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Scott Chambers’ franchise.

The story centres on a group of young women celebrating a 21st birthday in an isolated cabin deep in the woods.

Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey Mexico Premiere
Producers Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Scott Jeffrey are building a cinematic universe, called the Twisted Childhood Universe, out of horror movies based on public domain family friendly stories – including Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, that film’s sequels, Pinocchio Unstrung, and Bambi: The Reckoning, which is inspired by Felix Salten’s 1923 novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods. The Bambi horror movie will be released by ITN Studio and Premiere Entertainment on July 25th, and during an interview with SFX magazine, director Dan Allen said he feels the Twisted Childhood movies are more faithful to the original stories than the Disney adaptations have been.

"More Faithful Than the Disney Films": 'Bambi’ Horror Movie Director Teases His Entry in Twisted Childhood Universe
Image
In 2023, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey started an unlikely universe, full of characters we loved as kids but presented with a gory twist. Years later, the Twisted Childhood Universe has grown with new characters added to the roster. The last release from the franchise Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, is by far the goriest and prepares the audience for a crossover which will be a spectacle for the fans of the horror sub-genre. But before that, the next film in the franchise will be Bambi: The Reckoning. The fairytale slasher is directed by Dan Allen, who recently teased that the upcoming movie will have a deeper narrative impact beyond the blood and gore on the surface.

"So often, these films have been called 'childhood killers'; I think that is a bit extreme," Allen says. The movies from Twisted Childhood Universe have a limited release in theatres, depending on fans’ response.

Bambi: The Reckoning - Disney's Doe-Eyed Deer Is Out For Blood In Gruesome New Trailer
Image
Oh, deer.

Following the Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey movies and Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare, ITN Studios and Premiere Entertainment have released the first full trailer for the next chapter in the Twisted Childhood Universe, or "Poohniverse," Bambi: The Reckoning.

As we're sure you've already surmised, the low-budget horror parody follows a now grown-up Bambi as he seeks revenge on the hunter who killed his mother... and anyone else he happens to cross hooves with.

Of course, Bambi is far from the same defenceless fawn he was in the animated Disney classic, as he has now mutated into a gigantic, bloodthirsty monster (for some reason).

The brief synopsis reads: "Xana (McKee) and her son Benji (Mulheron) find themselves in a car wreck and soon hunted down by the vicious killing machine, Bambi. Bambi will destroy anyone in its path."

Check out the new trailer below along with a poster, and let...

Bambi: The Reckoning, He wants to avenge his mm
Bambi: O Acerto de Contas (2025)
Bambi: The Reckoning ,From Disney Darling to Public Domain exploitation (And Why Your Childhood is Officially Cancelled)

So, Bambi, that wide-eyed fawn who taught us the harsh realities of forest life and the importance of not trusting men with guns, has officially kicked down the velvet ropes and stumbled into the chaotic mosh pit of the public domain. Yes, folks, as of January 2021, Bambi is free! Free to be… anything. And by “anything,” I mean apparently, a vengeful woodland terror.

Now, it took a few years for the creative minds of the “Poohverse” to realize the potential. Apparently, someone finally yelled, “Wait a minute! We can make Bambi a slasher flick!” And thus, a cinematic masterpiece was born.

Because, clearly, nothing says timeless childhood classic like turning your favorite animated characters into vengeful monsters. The Poohverse—a horror-themed cinematic experiment that began with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey—set the stage for this twisted reimagining.

The adorable fawn from Disney's canon is no more. Now he's transformed into a mutated and monstrous beast on a roaring rampage of revenge.

Variety shared the first trailer for Bambi: The Reckoning on Wednesday. You can watch the video embedded above.

The story of Bambi didn't actually originate in the 1942 Disney film, instead coming from the Austrian novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods by Felix Salten, which is in the public domain. Bambi: The Reckoning is one of many recently released public domain horror titles. It is also part of the Twisted Childhood Universe (Tcu) created by Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Scott Chambers.

The Tcu started with Blood and Honey, its sequel,...

The first trailer for the next installment in the Poohniverse, officially known as The Twisted Childhood Universe (Tcu), has been released. After Winnie-the-Pooh and Peter Pan, Bambi is the next beloved children's character to get the horror parody treatment from the team behind Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.

Variety debuted the official trailer for Bambi: The Reckoning, as well as the synopsis for the horror movie, which reads as follows: "In this very twisted take on the Bambi story, our deer — now not simply grief-stricken over the death of his mother but also mutated, effing enormous and sporting an array of sharp, terrifying teeth — embarks on a deadly rampage through the woods seeking revenge. He throws cars into the air with his giant antlers, charges into otherwise lovely-looking country houses and chases after holidaying families in caravans. [Trailer]’Bambi: The Reckoning’: Childhood Icon Turns Killer in Twisted Horror Reboot
Image
Bambi is back—but not in the way you remember. The beloved deer from Disney’s classic tale has taken a terrifying turn in Bambi: The Reckoning, a new horror movie from the creators of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.

The first trailer for the film has arrived, and it shows a much darker version of Bambi. No longer just a grieving fawn, he has transformed into a massive, mutated creature with sharp teeth and an uncontrollable thirst for revenge. As he rampages through the woods, Bambi throws cars, crashes into homes, and hunts down innocent families.

The film promises plenty of blood, violent attacks, and shocking moments—making it completely unsuitable for children.

Directed by Dan Allen, Bambi: The Reckoning features a cast that includes Roxanne Mckee (Game of Thrones), Tom Mulheron, Nicola Wright (Sexy Beast), Samira Mighty, and Alex Cooke. It is produced by Scott Chambers and Rhys-Frake Waterfield of Jagged Edge Productions,...
