An American Terror

The Bottom Shelf: Troll 2, Phantasm, The Entity
Nick Aldwinckle Jun 5, 2017

We round up the latest horror-tinged Blu-ray and DVD releases....

So, after a brief hiatus, it turns out a lot’s happened in the few months between these round ups. A snap general election has been called, terror has struck at the heart of Manchester and a scandal approaching Watergate levels has hit the U.S presidency. More importantly, Troll 2 has finally come to UK Netflix and is the cherry on the cake made entirely of a series of kind of wonderful, kind of… not films on DVD and Bluray.

So, 1990’s Troll 2, you may or may not be aware of, is generally regarded as one of the very greatest 'so bad it’s good' movies. There are many worse (The Rollerblade Seven or Gary Oldman little person rom-com Tiptoes come to mind), though it’s difficult to think of many other truly awful movies...

A group of teenage outcasts, who have been picked on by the popular kids one too many times, hatch a plan to get revenge on their tormentors. The problem is they don’t have the funds to get an arsenal of weapons for this school shooting. Horror film 'Gnaw' begins filming in Colorado
By Seth Metoyer

MoreHorror.com

Colorado is quickly becoming one of the go to filming destinations in America. At the beginning of May, the horror film Gnaw began shooting principal photography -- and it's slated to be one hell of a ride.

From director Haylar Garcia, Gnaw stars Penelope Mitchell, Chris Johnson, Sally Kirkland, and Kyle Gass.

Check out the official details below, as well as some behind the scenes images. Stay tuned for more details about this one as they become available.

From The Press Release

Sally Kirkland, Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe and Spirit Award-winning actress (Anna, Valley Of The Dolls, The Sting), joins the already stellar cast of the feature film, Gnaw, directed by Haylar Garcia. The film stars Penelope Mitchell (Curve, CW’s The Vampire Diaries and Netflix's Hemlock Grove), Chris Johnson (xXx: State Of The Union, L. A. Noire, Cursed) and Kyle Gass (Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny,...

‘An American Terror’ Review
Stars: Jennifer Wilde, Graham Emmons, Kathryn Gould, Joe Abplanalp, Troy Alan, Michael Haskins, Taylor Hulett, Louise Macdonald, Patrick Sheridan | Written and Directed by Haylar Garcia

A group of friends, bullied and tormented at high school on a daily basis, form a plan to get back at the people who have made their life a living hell. Whilst trying to obtain the weapons necessary for the completion of their pact, they stumble across the twisted underground labyrinth of an crazed mad man. Trapped and being hunted through dark tunnels, their only hope is to escape or be killed as part of the man’s twisted bloody rituals.

An American Terror is controversial with a capital C. The main characters, after all, are planning to murder all their classmates at Homecoming. School shooting is an extremely sensitive subject especially with recent events. That fact alone made me twist awkwardly in my seat as the story began,...

2013 Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival: Official Lineup
Get ready for 10 truly terrifying nights when Washington, D.C.’s Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival haunts the AFI Silver Theatre on Oct 10-19 for the fest’s 8th annual edition.

Things really jolt alive on the 10th with the Opening Night film Willow Creek, a surprising genre entry by comedian-turned-director Bobcat Goldthwait, who tells the tale about a couple of amateur Bigfoot hunters who get in way over their heads in the woods. Goldthwait will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A moderated by Film Comment‘s Laura Kern. Also playing on this opening night are a program of scary short films and the feature An American Terror, a post-Columbine fright flick by Haylar Garcia.

As for the other nine nights, sticking true to the “International” in the fest’s name are movies such as the Ireland/France/Sweden co-production Dark Touch by Marina de Van about...

Filmmaker Haylar Garcia Talks An American Terror, Trailer and Exclusive Stills
From Columbine to Sandy Hook, school shootings have truly become a modern American terror, and given horror cinema’s historic penchant for addressing the populace’s real-life anxieties in the wake of such tragedies, it was only a matter of time before a filmmaker reflected on this raw topic.

Just as the Saw series and Eli Roth’s Hostel (debatably reactionary films which perhaps unconsciously attempted to ease our psyches in the wake of the stream of beheading and torture videos which emanated from the Middle East commencing with the first Gulf War) drew audience attention, so did George Romero’s 1968 classic feature Night of the Living Dead, via its thinly-veiled commentary on race relations. The amount of sociological discourse inherent in horror is voluminous, and Colorado filmmaker Haylar Garcia is about to throw his hat into the ring, with his forthcoming feature An American Terror (the film’s trailer...
