For almost 30 years, the Oldenburg Film Festival has been championing a very specific flavor of fiercely independent cinema.

Equally inspired by the New Hollywood genre films of the 1970s and the bootstraps indie cinema of the 1990s, Oldenburg has carved out a niche unlike any of the major international festivals. Instead of playing the same fall festival hits as Cannes, Venice and Toronto, Oldenburg continues to spotlight overlooked or forgotten movies that don’t fit the industry’s familiar categories.

For the 29th festival, which runs Sept. 14-18, The Hollywood Reporter took a look back at five indie gems from Oldenburg’s weird and wonderful history.

Jan-Ole Gerster’s A Coffee In Berlin, a droll, Jim Jarmusch-inspired day-in-the-life-of-a-German-slacker drama, premiered at the Munich Film Festival.

Living, breathing, angel-on-earth Dolly Parton has once again stepped up to heed the cry of those in need. In this case, she’s making like Saint Francis and launching a doggone do-gooding line of canine apparel, accessories, toys and more all in the name of rescue animals.

Elizabeth Hurley shared her love of puppies and a glimpse of her shapely legs.

The British actress and model may be 57 years old, but her age-defying physique says otherwise.

Elizabeth recently took to social media to share a video of herself cuddling with an adorable litter of puppies which she captioned, “Puppy love forever .”

The face of Estee Lauder set the video to Puppy Love by Donny Osmond. In the Instagram Reel, Elizabeth donned a gorgeous, white, ankle-length sundress with a floral pattern.

Sitting atop leopard-print pillows on the lush green grass with a pink rose bush in bloom acting as the backdrop, Elizabeth set her long, incredibly toned legs free for the video, with one tucked under the other, continuing to prove that age is just a number.

Sixteen first or second directors will vie for the San Sebastian Film Festival’s (20-28 Sept) new directors award.

The films will compete for the $67,000 (€50,000) Kutxa-New Directors Award, granted by an international jury.

Represented countries include Spain, the Us, Israel, France, Turkey, Lithuania, Costa Rica, Greece, Mexico, China, Iceland, Ukraine, Holland and Belgium.
