The Civil War On Drugs, It's not just good for a "low budget tv movie." This is absolute comedy cinema. The Writing and performances entirely outshine any production shortcomings inherent in the making of this passion project.
I personally could not be more happy that this is finally available as a complete movie. Well worth my money and time to revisit once more, if only for a few uncensored lines and one last Trevor Moore original song.
The Whitest Kids worked hard "remastering" this treasure for this release and I was overjoyed to finally see my favorite stoner comedy period piece in high definition.
To Mars Kids!
GFYSDL's.

For the past decade since I originally saw this troupe of performers do their rendition of a Civil War story, I have literally been reminded at least once every week of a scene or a line of dialogue from this movie. These quotes were part of my personal dogma, and their deliveries were mesmerizingly remembered.
"I'm just talkin'..." "No, you're illegal!" "You boys go on without me!" "____ it, white people!" "Or grilled cheese sandwiches." "Oh my god... the telegraph machine is broken." "All houses are made of wood." "This is the worst part of my day..."
...
Scenes like the dad's arm amputation, the trip-out in the Native settlement, and the pony express... these sketches are timeless!

Zach Cregger's filmography is pretty easy to get through in its entirety, even if you choose to count an oddity like The Civil War on Drugs. It has one of the best titles of all time, so I have to give it that. It's also in line with what I understand The Whitest Kids U Know to be, which admittedly isn't much. The humor here is very of its time, kind of like more polished Internet comedy, but plenty of the jokes here still land.
Cregger also co-directed another movie before he pivoted to horror called Miss March, and that one sounds a bit bad. I think it's also more of a traditional film. But at least The Civil War on Drugs was fun, being what you'd expect an early 2010s low-budget comedy with a title like that to be. It's kind of one-note, and I think it inevitably ran out of steam at a point.
You get the gist of it by about the halfway mark, but it stayed decently fun and funny. And it's not long, so that also makes it an easy enough watch.
The scrappiness of it all plus the historical setting made me think a little of Hundreds of Beavers, too, and it's always nice to be reminded of that movie.

WKUK of IFC fame! need more be stated?
no, not at all. fun absurd humor set in American civil war being observed by a couple of stoners. the movie is just over an hour long and that is perfect for this nutty movie - get a proper dose of silly nonsense and then it's over. PERFECT !
if you like silly over the top humor this is your movie! catch it - watch it - laff at it - laff with it.
there just isn't much to say about this kind of movie because it is so silly and plot so frail you will either luv it or hate it!
me - i loved it. i have watched it twice!

The Civil War on Drugs (2011) is a parody movie co-written and co-directed by Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore and the movie was an absolute blast from start to finish.
Positives for The Civil War on Drugs (2011): I have to give credit to Cregger and Moore for taking this silly idea and making it work. Cregger and Moore are awesome with their performances and I can say the same for the rest of the cast. The comedy in this movie is absolutely brilliant and it made me laugh. The action sequences are really good and they are hilarious. And finally, the movie is paced very well with its very short runtime.
Negatives for The Civil War on Drugs (2011): The movie is too short and I wanted more which is actually a good thing. Also, this movie feels more like a proof of concept than an actual movie.
Overall, The Civil War on Drugs (2011) is one of the biggest surprises in my entire life and I enjoyed almost every minute of it. I would recommend this movie to anyone looking for a great comedy movie and you can actually watch it on Tubi right now.
