I was truly excited for this anime, as horror is a major part of my life. As someone stated before the voices are squeaky but atleast they are young girls. What kills me is the over all concept for this anime is amazing and I wanted to enjoy it. But it all feels rushed, there is no suspense build up and after a slow first episode the rest are so fast paced it leaves a lot of holes in the story. If they would have taken their time and built up the suspense and story it would have probably been a favorite of mine but it's lack luster and quiet unsatisfying. Like how you don't get much back ground on any character, you don't have time to create an attachment to anyone. The gore is somewhat decent but the random events that occur makes no sense. Oh we are going to show this first clip in the beginning and flash back to it once or twice but never tell you the point of it, of yea you wonder about this person well they are this with no context or reasoning. I feel like as mentioned before if they would have actually made this a series of 12 episodes instead of 4 they could have made a killer horror anime, heck I have seen several that's only 6 episodes and they was still better than this one and I rated them horrible.
First off this is a Cartoon Network exclusive, which probably explains why it isnt available in Japanese with English subs. It's also a 4 episode miniseries, which in itself isnt really bad but should be a red flag that CN cheaped out on this. There's also some preachy nonsense about race relations that really clues you in that an idiot Westerner had this commissioned to serve as a vehicle for their precious MESSAGE.
Because of the brevity the final episode feels incredibly rushed, with the majority of it being two long, nonsensical diatribes of exposition that would have been better served spread out across the earlier episodes. Instead we get an Abrams-style mystery box that only opens in the unsatisfying finale. At least there's some pretty wild gore in the last few minutes. Not a recommend.

Okay so I'll start by saying from the moment I saw the ads for this i knew I absolutely had to see it well the day finally premiered and I was so happy with how that episode went and have remained happy since I seen this reviewer make a complaint about see squeeky voices well how do you expect girls that age to sound like big strong mighty women ?? Anyhow it's everything I hoped for and more so much going on here from suspicion to horror to everything in between it's one of the best animes so much fun and I adore the sister dynamic it is absolutely precious to watch it unfold so much fun to watch.
One of the biggest problems with horror anime is they just don't have the darkness or the atmosphere to really do it. There is something with digital animation that just destroyed horror.
The story is just so wordy there's constant dialogue. It does become interesting in the last episode, little fun.
The horror is just not really there and it's becomes funny. I think maybe if it was life action it could work. But the is just something about anime horror that doesn't work.
The character designer is Yoshitoshi Abe, the man that did Serial Experiments Lain and Texhnolyze.
These character designs look so bland I was in disbelief. Neither he's character designs have gotten worse lately or the animators could not transfer it.
It does become so bad, It's good. After all that talking something finally happens and then it's over at least it's only 4 episodes, so it's not totally worthless.

HCC is a horror tale. That much is apparent, especially in the last episode. It explores the horror of human nature and the terrors of the ancient unknown. It may seem like it's going to go in another direction, especially as we're following little girls and their childish exploration of their surroundings. Don't let that throw you.
It takes place in a rundown apartment complex in an ancient fictional seaside town, Kurosaki. There's local legends haling back to prehistoric times. The rundown heavily industrial and bleak feeling compound is mostly populated by the elderly: "He thinks he's tough because he used to be a security guard. He's likely to throw his back out doing this," is typical of the dialogue.
Though a feeling of unease, even doom, lingers around to the point where the characters and the audience can feel it, it's darker than it appears at first. The opening of episode 4 is rather a shocker along with being a nifty bit of writing.
Kimi is our protagonist. She's precociousness in a 9 year old's body. Yuri is 10. She's a girl from the city and her family just moved in. Hideo is the boy recluse who sits in his room drawing monsters. He avoids people.
It would be nice for at least one compassionate world to exist in the infinite realm. But time and time again, humans somehow manage to ruin anything worthwhile. Viewers see everything from the kids' perspective. While we might see some actual monsters, people are always the problem.
How? Why?
People are pride obsessed. They are always seeking power, wealth, and prestige, and are willing to do anything to obtain it. People are also xenophobic. A group of foreign fishing interns are in the little village to learn their renowned fishing methods. Many in the complex are anti-foreigner / anti-other belief systems. The visiting fishermen are met with anger and distrust, especially when weird things start happening. No matter the group - men-women-ethnicity-skin-color-belief-system-religion-atheism-language-educatuon-wealth-politics (the religion of our day) - no matter the group: collectively, we are all guilty. This is a human failing and it fuels evil in our world., People enjoy looking at others and finding them lacking so that we can feel good by comparison. That's pathetic. None of us are right all the time, so comparing oneself to another flawed human being is much like the vomit bag comparing itself to the toilet brush. Let's all get over ourselves - that seems to be the theme.
The suspicion and dislike is described as mismatched buttons. Once something is buttoned unaligned, everything that follows will be mismatched. A reset is needed by those who will take the lead. As things continue to crank up we see the 365 sheet calendar pages get torn off one by one to help build tension until ep4, which is a straight horror show.
I think this show is worth watching once. It is good, but sad. At only 4 short episodes, it's the length of a feature film, so the time investment is small, and the payoff is more than adequate.
