A silly comedy, no more, no less

This is just an old-fashioned slapstick comedy. If you're not amused by a kick in the balls, this may not be for you.

The acting is terrible, of course, but that's part of the genre. Nothing is taken seriously, it's just a bunch of kids having fun, the story is ridiculous, but a real story would actually be a distraction here. Bowen Yang and Conan O'Brien do a fine job, and the main characters are pretty much the same as what you see on SNL.

The production is actually quite good, this kind of movie is typically done more on the cheap.

So no, an Oscar is not likely, but if you just want to have fun with a bunch of goofballs, you may enjoy this movie.

High highs

The first half of this movie made me laugh out loud. Repeatedly. The last half? More than a little disappointing. In other words, it was only half a good movie...but that is still more than a lot of movies manage to be. There were high highs and lows lows, but the highs were worth it. I laughed more than i groaned (mostly).

Also, my kids loved it. Yet more proof that teenagers always love their generation's SNL movies way more than all the others. This is their Spies Like Us. This is their Three Amigos. You get the idea. Lots of flaws, but lots to love too. These guys find a chemistry that's pretty unique even for this kind of comedy.

If the boys from Workaholics went on a treasure hunt

While the movie has some funny dialogue and it's worth finishing once you get far enough in to realize it isn't that good, those are the most complementary things I can say about this flick.

On the face this movie is just Without a Paddle redone 20 years later. Group of friends since childhood are growing apart as adults and one of them decides to rekindle the once flourishing friendship by having the group go on a hunt for a fabled treasure they heard about when they were kids. Absolutely the same story as Without a Paddle.

The only thing that sets this apart from the movie it rips off is that the group of guys is more like a direct copy of Mail Order Comedy, the guys who brought you Workaholics and Game Over, Man!

Overall the movie isn't the worst thing you'll ever watch, but it offers zero originality and mostly cheesy humor. Do yourself a favor and plan on spending 90 minutes of your life on something more entertaining. Like re-grouting your shower.

It's Without A Paddle at a faster pace

This movie was ok. It caught our attention with Conan, we were hoping for a little more of him but ok. The acting was so-so. It definitely had its funny moments and it was overall a pretty entertaining movie but there were a couple things I could not stop thinking about the whole time. The 3 main actors are the Wish version of the dudes from Workaholics. Also the plot is basically the movie Without A Paddle just rewritten and changed slightly. It obviously has some main differences but it has a similar vibe and same basic idea. Immature young adult men go on a treasure hunt based on a local urban myth. It is worth the watch though.

Workaholics: The Woodland Adventure

A pretty good late-night-comedy worth the watch.

With that being said, it was literally Workaholics. Ders, Blake, and Adam are literally ripped off to full effect. You can tell these guys watched Workaholics as kids and it's fine. They did a nice job paying homage to their heroes, but they could've made it a little more subtle.

Other than that, it's seriously a fun little romper and my gf and I got a good kick out of it. I love some fun late-night-comedies and this movie gets it right where others fail miserably. I'm not going to rank it up there with Grandmas Boy or Hot Rod but it's worth the watch if you want to watch a fun adventure movie that will give you some laughs.

Conan is also pretty amazing to see, and if you watch it for him alone it is great. He's not just a cameo but plays a nice part in it.

Watch it with a friend or two and have some fun with it.

I'm sad

I was so excited for this film but it felt... disappointing. The guys pulled their punches and you could kind of feel their humor trying to break through, but it was like it had been through the washing machine of lane Hollywood Apatow humor. Like the small bits that made me laugh didn't even match how much PDD makes me laugh from a simple SNL skit. The pacing was weird and it made me feel kind of sad for the guys that this was their film debut. It's hard to describe other than that it felt like it went off the rails but not in a good way like their SNL skits. It was more off the rails in a stupid way. When we got to the cult, I really was just ready for it to be over, and then Bowen Yang added nothing to it. It was sad.

60/50 - nice

It's not overwhelming. But I think it's well done in regards to a simple entertaining story. I never saw Conan O'Brien in a movie before and honestly, in my opinion he has great potential. And I'd love to see him again in movies. For some reason I just like him big time. It doesn't make you crack up laughing, but besides it just being a cute story about friendship, at the end of the movie there were a few times where it definitely made me giggle. Would I recommend it? Yes. Simply because I don't consider it a waste of time. I enjoyed watching it and I wasn't bored. Good enough for me. I understand for some it might not be enough entertaining, but I've watched quite a lot of movies including B-movies/indie movies because of positive reviews and was sooo disappointed. This is not one of them. It was okay and most important, I don't regret watching it, which is all that matters to me. And don't get me wrong, there are definitely B-movies and indies, which I enjoyed big time. It's just that if they happen to have a lot of good reviews and you find out they are really bad, it just sucks to have wasted time watching it. What I also liked about this movie is that they didn't promote stereotype women. Watch it and you'll know what I mean.

Weak attempt at humour

This movie was not only stupid it wasn't even funny.

I may have chuckled twice for about two seconds and that's it. The three main guys were like school kids performing a High School skit which was humourless.

A few swear words here and there added the only decent dialogue in the whole movie.

I know, I'm really panning this movie but the whole thing just seemed so awkward and silly. The story could have been great if the guys didn't behave like utter twits even though there was a sort of serious element to each of their individual stories.

I think there may be a moral to the story but it was lost in a cloud of nonsense.

Exactly what I expected

I love this group. They're always hilarious. I look forward to their skits on SNL every Saturday. While the premise has been done before. It didn't take away from the film. I especially love that Conan O' Brien was in the film. I mostly enjoy their positive, and kind attitudes. To be fair. I love anything that non serious. Even in the most serious moments. The humor is still there. I also love how used John Goodman for the voiceover. Perfect choice if you ask me. Bowen Yang being included just made it that much better! I hope these guys continue to stay friends, and create consistent funny content.

An affable if unexceptional feature debut for Please Don't Destroy that's held aloft more by the charm and chemistry of its cast than strength of material

Life long friends Ben (Ben Marshall), John (John Higgins), and Martin (Martin Herlihy) find themselves drifting apart as Ben tries to impress his disapproving father (Conan O'Brien) while Martin tries to fit in with his girlfriend, Amy's (Nichole Sakura), family as John still feels without purpose. Remembering an old compass the trio found when they were children, John soon puts together that it's a clue to the lost treasure of Foggy Mountain which conceals a valuable bust of Marie Antoinette that has largely been written off as a legend. As the trio navigate the clues left behind, they come across various hazards from both the local wildlife and other parties who have their sights set on the treasure.

Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain is the feature debut for comedy trio Please Don't Destroy consisting of Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy who first came to prominence through viral internet comedy videos before becoming part of the long running sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live. Development on the film began in 2022 with an eye on a theatrical release, but eventually Universal pulled it from its prospective release date replacing it with Strays instead deciding to release the film as an original for their Peacock streaming service. Going into this movie I'll admit I wasn't all that familiar with Please Don't Destroy not having seen their initial internet work or their work on SNL, but as a showcase for their talents The Treasure of Foggy Mountain makes for likable laid back viewing even if I wasn't won over so much by the material.

Starting off on the positives, Ben, John, and Martin despite not playing that far from themselves (sharing names and all) have fantastic chemistry and timing with each other and the opening montage featuring the trio roller skating to work is very charming and filled with a lot of comic energy that exudes from the trio. The three show some solid work in both dialogue exchanges and physical schtick and even get a charming little musical interlude as part of the treasure hunt. I also enjoyed the supporting cast such as Conan O'Brien as Ben's father and Megan Stalter and X Mayo as two park rangers who cross paths repeatedly with the trio and we get some solid comic friction from their interactions. Despite my praise for the chemistry and presence of the cast, the actual movie itself is very middle of the road material that unfortunately feels pretty safe. I think this may come down to me as I've seen a LOT of "shenanigans in the woods" type comedies with the likes of Great Outdoors, Without a Paddle, and Up the Creek to name a few and in many ways the movie does feel like a highlight reel of those tropes of the formula even being something of a sister film to Without a Paddle. That alone isn't really a knock against the movie itself as plot and setup aren't nearly as important to comedy as delivery and timing, but I never felt like there was that much of a twist on the material and set pieces like a cult lead Bowen Yang's Deetch Nordwind or a prominent third act cameo just ended up falling flat for me.

While I liked the chemistry and energy brought by the talented cast, it's probably for the best Universal made this a streaming release as there really aren't enough big belly laughs to justify a theatrical run and it's best enjoyed for the "okay" experience it is on the small screen. I honestly hope we do see more of Please Don't Destroy in future projects (maybe in TV form or something they didn't write by themselves) because they have a strong foundation, they just need to build sturdier material on top of it.

Tiresome attempt at comedy

It's just really clear from the first two minutes; These people aren't capable of producing a funny movie. I managed to endure 40 minutes of this whatever it is, and then I just got pissed off for having wasted 40 minutes on it.

They try way too hard to make everything funny in an outlandish kinda way, but it falls flat.

There's nothing likeable about them, nothing original about the attempt and aside from a couple of funny incidents, you just wait for something that does not improve.

The two park Rangers or whatever they're supposed to be, couldn't have been worse even if they tried, just plain awful over the top acting.

It's dumb but that it's the fun

I really enjoyed this stupid movie, they are the highlight of SNL and definitely my type of humor. It's corny, little one liners delivered just awkwardly enough to make me crack up. You follow three friends on the adventure for the treasure. Along the way they get robbed, tricked, and end up with a cult.

Time flies when watching this goofy flick and you can't help but root for this absurd friendship. What will come of the treasure? Will they make it out of the forest alive? Will they be millionaires and be happy?

We also get some amazing cameos from Conan O'Brien and Bowen Yang. Definitely worth checking out!

This was pretty fun

I thought this was a better-than-average comedy. It's pretty goofy, but it was my style of humor. The three male leads are the best part--they are given pretty good material almost all the way through. I did think things fell off at one point when the group stumbled onto a secret community, but most of the rest of the story delivered. Even though there were a few sequences where the shtick got a little tiresome, I thought it still averaged out to a lot of enjoyment overall. There is even narration by John Goodman that had some memorable lines (He reminds us he's been in The Big Lebowski--and a LOT of other stuff). I would give it a moderate recommendation, but it's not on that level of something great enough that I would try to get people to watch it with me.

How on earth is this a 6.1 rating?

We've come to the point where the younger generation is creating and rating garbage as good movies. This movie is poorly acted and juvenile in its unoriginal jokes. I was stunned by its mediocrity. But thats the garbage we have to choose from anymore. Not even big names like Conan O'Brian could give this sophomoric attempt at comedy a shot in the arm. I kept waiting and waiting for the plot to become interesting or original because if its decent ratings. Nothing ever came but lame scene after lame scene. Apparently the writers and stars in the movie have other material that's supposedly funny. I find that hard to believe.

good mildly humorous

Martin (Martin Herlihy), John (John Higgins), and Ben (Ben Marshall) are losers and best friends since grade school. Legend has a treasure on Foggy Mountain. As school kids, they found a strange compass there.

Martin, John, and Ben are a comedy troupe called Please Don't Destroy which appears on SNL sometimes. They are basically comedy nerds. The guys themselves are not the best actors, but they do have good chemistry together. They fit the roles. Same goes for Conan O'Brien. I'm his biggest fan, but I must admit that he's not going to win any acting awards. I like the girls and I like the cult. These are not the biggest laughs, but I find the whole to be comfortably enjoyable.

Surprisingly great

I've seen this movie once before and I thought it was passable in the enjoyment. So I threw it on for some background noise today, upon second watch I love it so much more. There's a ton of great jokes, the cameo's are fun, the story isn't amazing but it's a good time. I'd say if you go in with high expectations you'll be disappointed. Watch this for a fun time and you'll have a blast! For their first movie I think the please don't destroy guys did a great job, totally a movie for their age group, lots of references someone in their late twenties to mid thirties would get. Don't sleep on it and have fun with it!

So Stupid It is Good

There have been many very bad movies that have originated out of Saturday Night Live Skits that had good origins. The main issue is that they just don't sustain themselves in long form format. Please Don't Destroy happens to defy that trend. The film is an offshoot of the very funny, pre-recorded SNL bits that appear regularly on the show. The three writer, sketch comics that appear in this movie are the ventral characters in the ongoing skits. Their timing and humor is very good. On the show there are many times I find they are the funniest part of the show. This movie builds on it and sustains, with a good cast of supporting players-including Conan O'Brien. The timing is what works best and the self effacing humor. I liked it.

How was this made?

I must be missing something huge here. How did Conan O'Brien and John Goodman sign off on being a part of this film? The main three characters were horrific rip-offs and unfunny versions of the Workaholics. The plot was non-existent, but if I had to compare it to anything, I'd say it's a terrible ripoff of "Without a Paddle." Maybe they were trying for "The Package," which to me was surprisingly hilarious. Bottom line, there was nothing funny, nothing original, and the comedy group that made this should be embarrassed for using whatever nepotism they must possess for getting this made. I'm sure those guys are funny doing improve, but this movie was impossible to watch.

It's nuts and they didn't hold back

How many will remember the hawk? Yes, this is over the top at times, but in a zany way and not cruel. They really didn't hold back on anything. It did get a bit uneven at times, but humor can be that way. Not every joke or set up works perfectly. But it is a lot of fun to watch with likeable characters and funny stereotypes. I laughed when the priest said the money from the treasure would help pay their legal bills! It may be tailored to a younger demographic, but there is enough to satisfy most people. And yes, some nods to NBC shows if one listened carefully. But the bottom line is if you are a fifth grader doing a magic show, perhaps stay away from the flames.

Same same - in a mixed bag

No pun intended - may sound weird, but having the three writers also star in this ... well it feels like a mixed bag of people and stuff (happening), but then again they are too similar overall to animate or make us feel a lot .. or maybe even anything. I mean there is a message (although even that gets ridiculed), but is it one we accept and want to hear? You decide.

Three friends go on an adventure ... and what they find ... well they are after fame and especially riches ... having Conan as a boss is not the easiest thing apparently. At least this version of him - though it feels like he is channeling his late night persona ... or is it just him? At the Hot Ones interview he showed how crazy and far out he can become ... to appease ... himself and the audience I reckon.

But Conan is a side character here - even if he surely loved being in this. The three main characters (plus love interests/foes and other people) are quite annoying on the other hand ... how much so? Well that will be up to you .... they are also vulgar and quite offensive ... so you should not have issues with that ... at all. If you can dig the humor, you'll have a lot of fun ... that is for sure ...

Maybe Zoomers & Zillennials might think it's funny?

I had never seen these guys before, but I figured if the were SNL regulars, the movie would be decent. I was wrong. What a yawner!

I think maybe it was supposed to be a remodel of Without A Paddle, but I found nothing funny about it at all. I never laughed once. But, I figured as long as I had already been watching it for a half hour, I'd give it another hour to be fair. I wasted another hour.

I didn't find any of the characters to be relatable, or likable, or interesting, or funny---or of the caliber I'd expect for "SNL regulars" (although I have not watched SNL for many years).

If you have an immature sense of humor, and haven't ever seen any GOOD comedy-adventure films, before, then you won't know the difference and maybe you'll be entertained...otherwise don't waste your time.

Exactly what I expected

I don't get the hate here. This was really funny. I mean it's the kind of comedy they just don't make anymore because we all complain so hard about them, even though all our favourite old comedies are exactly this kind of movie! You can deny the chemistry here. I didn't ever really connect with "workaholics"so I don't see the comparison there and although it shares a setting and some themes with "without a paddle" so do many other movies. It doesn't mean it's good or bad. It's all just tropes. The only real questions here are"will comedy movie make me laugh?" Or "will watching these three idiots for an hour and a half be entertaining?" And the answer to both questions is an emphatic "YES". So ignore the haters and enjoy the flic.

I hope these guys make a movie every summer.

Solid buddy comedy for fun time

A fun and silly buddy comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously. Honestly, I can't even remember the last time I genuinly laughed at a comedy on any streaming platform. If you're into Workaholics which is by itself one of my fav or similar bromance-centric comedies, this will be right up your alley.

I also got a pleasant surprise with Conan O'Brien's cameo, especially since I've been listening to his podcast lately-it was a nice touch. Overall, it's a solid 6/10 for a fun, but don't expect anything groundbreaking. It's lighthearted, goofy fun, perfect for when you just want to unwind and laugh with your buddies.

So-so, though had the potential to be better than that

Friends Ben, John and Martin live fairly mundane, uneventful lives, working at a camping store owned by Ben's father, Farley. Then one day Martin determines that a treasure of enormous value may be found nearby, in Foggy Mountain State Park. The three set off to find the treasure.

A film that had the potential to be a laugh-a-minute comedy. The initial scenes have some great lines and the presence of Conan O'Brien as Farley strengthens the film's comedic credentials. However, it never fully gets going a comedy, spluttering along rather than being constantly funny.

The fact that the film seems more preoccupied in being an adventure movie would explain the inconsistent comedy. This wouldn't be so bad if the adventure plot was half-decent but it's not, being rather haphazard and unfocused.

In the end you have something that is half-baked and neither fish nor fowl. A pity, as it had so much potential.

Revenge of the Nerds

Age of entitlement! Who gave these mediocre SNL writers the idea that writing comedy is the same as acting in a comedy?

Writing, formulaic and almost scientific these days, and visualizing what the characters say and do, doesn't make one the best choice to act out those characters in front of the camera.

I mean, they know that already. So, why humiliate yourself? Even your SNL's mini movies aren't funny, well maybe one or two, but a 3min sketch is not the same as a 90min movie.

Sometimes, a chef is better complimented if he's not seen by the customers. So, stay in the writers room.

Oh, the movie? It's bad.
