As "One More Time" (2023 release from Sweden; 85 min) opens, Amelia is celebrating her 18th birthday. We then skip to day, as Amelia celebrates her 40th birthday. She quits her lousy retail job and instead goes to the pub to get drunk. Afterwards she fumbles and stumbles, and gets hit by a truck. When she wakes up, it's her 18th birthday again... At this point we are 10 minutes into the movie.
Couple of comments: this Swedish film liberally borrows and steals from Groundhog Day, even putting in Groundhog Day as part of the storyline. It also reminds of 19 Going on 30. In other words: this movie does not shine because of its (lack of) originality. But what it does do, and very well at that, is to showcase how a 40 yo woman looks back at her 18 yo self, and sees the many mistakes that she made back then. So the movie is filled with regret and it makes you realize that, when you get down to the very essence, the thing that matters more than anything else is: BE KIND to one another, starting TODAY.
"One More Time" started streaming on Netflix just the other day. At a mere 85 minutes, this movie just flew by, and I quite enjoyed it, more so that I had expected. If you liked Groundhog Day or 13 Going on 30, I'd readily suggest you check this out, and draw your own conclusion.

On her 40th birthday, Amelia is hit by a bus and wakes up in her bed to her parents singing "Happy Birthday". She reluctantly realises that she is 18 again and that the year is 2002. Her best friend Moa is throwing a party for Amelia, who turns out to be the popular hot girl ("every boy in school is in love with you" as one of them shyly tells her). In her 2024 (?) life not so much, she is bored, alone and feels lost in her adulthood. However, Amelia has to relive her 18th birthday over and over again with slight variations - in a very well known manner. (Plus: the movie has a few peculiar resemblances to Mårlind and Steins sadly underrated "Storm" (2005), more on that below.)
Nice story, nice acting, nice setting and costume (pink and pastels in abundance), nice 2002 markers, "nice" everything. The soundtrack is nice too. You get it.
"One More Time" could've been a complete disaster, painfully drowning in niceness - if it weren't for one thing: Hedda Stiernstedt in the lead, as Amelia. She alone carries the movie on her shoulders and makes it quite watchable, albeit immensely predictable. Stiernstedt is an absolutely perfect cast for this role, even at 35 she has the youthful look that actually works ... with just a grain of suspension of disbelief.
Well, the story is... nice, and keeps rolling in well-familiar tracks. If it's worth your time depends on how much you are into feel-good coming-of-age romantic drama, and how much pink/pastels your eyes can stand. And yes, if you are a fan of Teddybears Sthlm (I am!) it helps, too.
With that said, it wouldn't hurt if Netflix levels up the request for writing skills, just a tad or so.
Similarities to "Storm"? A certain kind of accident in key scenes, and moreover: the answer is hidden in a secret box. Yup.

First, you need to know that this whole thing wraps up in a lesbian love story. Getting so tired of Netflix suggesting movies to me as "romance" but isn't what I am looking for. They need to have separate section for that. That being said this movie is objectively bad on its own.
The movie straight up rips off peggy sue got married / groundhog day. Amelia is 40 today. Her life is a mess. She works retail and is poor. Sitting at a bar after being fired from her retail job she runs into Fiona... a former childhood friend with the same birthday who is a successful rich singer. This leads Amelia to head to a time capsule both had buried when they were like 10 - where she is hit by a truck and ends up on her 18th birthday -- which forms a time loop she can't escape.
Amelia is a horrible person. Rude to her friends even as a mature adult. Not great to her parents. In fact when she realizes (after watching groundhog day) that she needs to be nicer to people... she does that for one day and that is it. The rest of the time she acts like an idiot.
Amelia finally gets out of the time loop after realizing Fiona was in love with her at 10. And she heads off to get right with that in present day. What? What? As if that is going to make everything wonderful? Huh? Of course Fiona has never given up on her 10 year old love and now they are all set.
This whole thing doesn't make a lick of sense.

Just watched it on Netflix with a spare 90 minutes and really enjoyed it. Sure, it's a a Groundhog day retake, but then that itself wasn't original. Both stories are as old as time itself. But they at least call out the previous film as part of the plot.
It has a great message (look after your friends!) and is acted well by all involved, with great characters.
The only issue would be that Hedda Stiernstedt looks far too young to be 40. In fact when I watched the trailer I thought that she was playing Amelia's 18 year old version!
I'd call it a bit of light-hearted fun, definitely worthy of your time. And it did get me feeling like I should try to reconnect with some people from my past...

Just because the plot is to relive a significant day and as a result become a better person, does not put this Swedish movie in the same class with the incomparable Bill Murray. It doesn't even put it in the same school.
First the dubbing is dreadful. All the voices have rhe flat affect of dialog read off a script.
The second issue is the appearance of Amelia who is the same actor both as an 18 year old and a 40 year old. As a result, I was confused as the scenes shifted back and forth.
Third too much vapid giggling. That alone was enough to give it a reduced rating.
Fifth generally insipid acting and script. The ending was barely worth the time spent getting there.
I wouldn't have wasted my time but a NYTimes reviewer gushed over it.
Maybe if I was still 18, it would have appealed to me, but somehow I doubt it.

I felt I have to write a review, because after I watched the movie, I read the comments here, and I couldn't disseagree more with the reviews that says it's a terrible movie. Maybe this movie is not for everyone, but as a 28 years old woman, I could relate with her a lot, or at least with her 40 years old self. During the movie I was thinking about my past, about the people I spent time with, so I could reflect in my past self a lot. Also I loved to see the 80s-90s outfits here. It was a light movie, but with meanings- at least for me. I liked the ending too, you can't see a lot from the old movies, but it's deffinitelly could happen back there. This movie brozght me for me some time to think about myself again. So I really l recommend this movie for anybody :)

My first review ever. Need to share my feelings!
If you liked (loved) Vinterviken. You'll like this one!
I'm turning 40 next year so the same age as the main character. My God! Nostalgia!!
This wasn't the best movie ever, but for me the best nostalgia ever!!
A combination of 13 going 30, Groundhog Day and Vinterviken. But Swedish. But from a small town.
I feel good afterwards. And happy of all the details of nostalgia!! The music, the clothes, the hair-extensions, the tummy bracelet, etc.
I also admire the producer for having actors in the exact age as supposed age. I think that is perfekt!

We love time loop type movies and were leery of the ratings in the 5's. However we took a chance and quite enjoyed the film. Funny, and with a heart.
To get to the minimum number of characters I'll again say don't believe the bad reviews. Similar to Groundhog day and even has a clip from that movie. The main character evolves like Bill does, day after day.
I also like that at least some of the characters look like real people and not your typical pretty/handsome movie characters - though there's plenty of that too I suppose. But the best friend is a big girl which you don't see that often.
So - do watch it!

I randomly came across this movie and thought I'd give it a chance. I usually don't have high hopes for these types of movies, they're more of just something to throw on. However, I was pleasantly surprised with this one. The nostalgia was so fun to watch. I'm 32 so I grew up around the same time. The set design, costumes, hair and makeup, music choices, etc. Were really well done. Took me back in time! The story also had me reflecting on my past and things I could relate to growing up as well as now. Pulled at the heart strings for sure, but had silly moments too. I would recommend it, also recommend watching it in the original language not dubbed.

I wouldn't say I was excited to watch this because we know how all time travel and time loop movies go. Similar to Groundhog Day Amelia, a 40 something woman, who's quite a loser, relives her 18th birthday day after day. And while it's fun, she realises that life at 18 is really self centered.
Although the movie is predictable, its beautiful to see the different interactions of the characters, all while realising that it's not about her. It's the nuances that do it for me. The story of rekindling relationships, of starting again even if it's 22 years later or having a second chance to do things right.

We all have regrets in life, and some we wish we can go back and change. It feels like Peggy Sue Got Married(1986) and Groundhog Day(1993) mix together, and I liked the way the movie makes reference to both of them.
Amelia is very much alone on her 39th birthday, finds a time capsule which and her old friend made when they where eight, suddenly finds herself in 2002 on her 18th birthday, but soon realizes she's in a time loop, and is not sure on how to get out of it.
A well acted film by everybody acting here. Parts where Amelia looks at the time loop has a blessing and a curse. I say this is a movie you should check out.

I highly recommend watching this amazing movie! It's a hidden gem from Sweden that offers a unique cinematic experience tailored for Scandinavian audiences. Avoid the dubbed version to fully enjoy the authentic Swedish dialogue.
While the plot isn't entirely groundbreaking, the movie cleverly acknowledges this in a fun way, keeping you engaged. It combines elements from popular films like "Groundhog Day," "13 Going on 30," and "Happy Death Day," resulting in a fresh and captivating storyline.
The talented actors deliver impressive performances, bringing their characters to life. The well-written script adds depth and authenticity to the dialogues and interactions.
After watching this movie, I felt a deep sense of satisfaction and happiness. It's a memorable experience that leaves a lasting impression. Don't miss out on this must-watch Swedish film that will transport you to a world filled with culture, nostalgia, and delightful surprises.

I started watching this because I had no other movie to watch. I did not know that it would take my attention. It kept me watching to the end and at the end I wished if there was more.
Some may say it is predictable. Yes it is predictable at some small points, but I don't think they count. The thing is when you watch this movie it doesn't keep you predicting. You start to live in it.
If you are 30 - 50 years old, I promise you are gonna love this movie. It comes with a great lesson to the life.
It has a great plot, great acting, great music and a great environment.
I do not recommend this as a family movie, but still it is a great fit for teens if they can get the message.

I love foregin films and today i have been on a Swedish tear. I came across this in reference to another film I had seen.
This is not at all my scene man but none the less I watched it and was absolutely entertained. I adore the fact that they point out Groundhog Day (one of my favourite films) within the movie to really enunciate the situation.
I mean think about it, what better way to pay homage to one of the greatest films of all time, by re-introducing it to an entirrely new era and age. Absolute kudos for the way this was brilliantly done.
The film itself was anything but typical. Instead of getting better things tend to gradually get worse, its amazing. It has some rather funny moments and i gotta say it took some balls for some of these scenes.
The cast were great and I love the adaptation figures from past to present. The casting was done quite well and everyone played their part perfectly.
I feel this deserves a much higher rating, based upon the overall quality. It moves along without skipping a beat it really does feel like you're back in 2002. I'm sure much more of it would be relatable if I was more coloquially in touch, but I got most of it regardless.
A truly enjoyable film that transcends generations. The ending especially, could rub you one way or the other. However the way it plays out is a testsment to the writing and something you don't expext, because you're too busy feeling however you feel about it.
Brilliantly done.
Entertainment Value 7.5/10 Overall Rating 8/10
A trip down memory lane or perhaps opening a time capsule. If you're a parent of teenagers, this might be a good way to bond and/or embarass yourself, for better or for awesome, depending on your level of humor.
