Here Comes the Rain

A poignant film about kidnappings set at a time when these incidents were rampant in Lebanon. It focuses on the grim effects of the kidnappings on the affected families, as well as on the victims.

In the case of Ramez, this means the irretrievable loss of 20 years of his life and what it does to him as a human being: as a husband and father.

Nayfeh Najjar's story is odd because it always occurs in the same setting where she writes distraught letters. Initially, the viewer wonders why her story is treated this way. But he realizes later what the director's likely intention is: to show that individuals are affected by such events in different but similarly painful ways.

The story is well-paced. The actors portray their roles convincingly. There are wide shots of Beirut that linger. Perhaps, this is the director's way of saying that it's a beautiful but troubled place.

This is a thoughtful and unpretentious film. Watch it.
