More Than Frybread

"More Than Frybread" is one of the strangest films I've ever seen. Imagine...a mockumentary about a frybread competition among Native Americans in Arizona! That is NOT a topic you'd expect to see in a film! But apparently, the filmmaker Travis Holt Hamilton wanted to make a film about Native culture and decided to do one on the lowly frybread, a staple that Native Americans began making once they were placed on reservations and were forced to subsist on government handouts of flour.

As far as describing the film goes, it's tough and more something you just need to experience yourself. I appreciated how the entire film was done in such a deadpan manner. It really made the film incredibly strange and silly.

Before you decide to watch this film, I should point out that it starts off very slowly and is not an easy movie to love at first. STICK WITH IT....it gets better as it progresses. Besides, it's nice to see a film talk about and feature Native Americans....as very, very few others have in recent years. Weird, clever and ell worth your time....provided you have a high tolerance for tongue-in-cheek humor.

We lived in northern AZ for many years, but moved away. Trying to find frybread - good frybread - can be a challenge. Not too thick, not too thin and just the right color. Filmed throughout Arizona, it was great to see familiar sites and a few familiar faces. This comedy will keep you laughing and searching for more frybread!

More Than Frybread is an adventure that will leave you feeling uplifted and inspired. It's a true celebration of community, tradition, and the universal love for good food and good company.

The comedic timing of these first time actors is always spot on! The movie beautifully captures the spirit of Native American communities, showcasing their traditions, humor, and challenges in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.

This charming film takes you on a heartwarming journey filled with laughter, cultural pride, and a whole lot of frybread. Someone get me a Navajo Taco! Can't wait for More Than Frybread 2.

This movie answers the age-old question, "what the heck is fry bread" in a very entertaining way, which I'm very thankful for and excited about. No matter where I go in America if I tell people about fry bread, so many people ask me that.

And of course if you already know what the heck fry bread is you will love this movie on so many additional levels.

Travis is spinning off a TV pilot of the same thing as we speak. It will simply be called "Frybread." And it is also a comedy. I'm not sure yet if it'll be mockumentary in nature too or not.

This movie was a random watch for me that turned out to be so enjoyable. I found myself laughing so much throughout. It kinda gives me a "Parks & Rec" vibe (I love that show) and is just so ridiculous at points that you can't help but laugh. I hope more people get to see this one.
