Path of Souls

I was fortunate to be able to watch the movie Path of Souls at the 2012 Aboriginal Film Festival in Duncan, BC. About half way through the movie, I was thinking, I have to watch this again. The characters in the movie are so full of passion. You truly believe that you are entering their life experiences. You see into a world you would not see if you did not have the opportunity to watch this well made film. I want to share this movie with my family and friends. I was totally enthralled while watching this movie. The following day, I attended a workshop with Corey and he was informing us of how difficult it has been to promote his film. And it is an awesome film. I definitely would promote this film. It is a film that deserves to be seen.

While I may not be as expressive as "kaseypat"'s review, I am still in the midst of watching this movie which I had recorded from the APTN channel a while back. It is an amazing account of soul and instinctive and intrinsic thoughts and belief tied to native ideology and the entire universe. It is thought provoking and intensely passionate and resonates a strong sense of spirituality that forces one to watch the movie over and over again...in deep thought. The acting is amazing all around...the insights and realm of spirituality shared is poignant and strong...

Medical student Grace Hudson (Laura Harris) is married to native American Jon Beardsley (Adam Beach) who is writing a thesis about the relationship between native beliefs and modern science. She is devastated from his death after a short sickness and finds solace with his best friend Brandon Eckhardt (Corey Sevier). Jon had left Grace a series of messages and she goes on a journey for him.

I like both Harris and Beach. I was expecting a romance with a dash of native spirituality. Beach is rarely the romantic lead. Then the movie kills him off in the first five minutes. What the F. It then replaces him with a hunky white dude. What the freaking F. There has to be a better way to learn native culture other than to kill off the native romantic lead. I guess spreading his ashes is a solid reason but it doesn't help me. Here's my rewrite. A loved one leaves his ashes to be spread by Grace with a cryptic list of native clues to locations. She seeks the help of fellow student Jon. Together they do the road trip and end up falling in love while presenting the movie's thesis of native understanding's connection to modern science. The flashbacks in this movie come off flat and it becomes a listing of native beliefs. The sincerity is good but it doesn't make it a good watch.
