Obviously if you're a Pete Davidson fan you're going to like this and if you're not you probably won't. That's why I don't understand the people who are leaving negative reviews. What were you expecting? Having enjoyed The King of Staten Island, I was expecting this to be a longer version of that movie just made for a tv series and while they both have a lot in common, this is actually better than the movie. I think it's mostly due to the great Joe Pesci who plays Pete's dying grandfather. The dynamic Pete has with his grandfather is what makes this better than the movie. Every episode has plenty of laughs but also some good drama too. Even though you'll enjoy this a lot more being a Pete Davidson fan I don't think you have to be his fan to like it. I'm already looking forward to next season.
It started with the most generic, overdone, cringey "mom caught me masturbating" skit, and on top of that - with a badly inserted Meta Quest ad. But the more you watch, the better it gets.
I guess I'm one of the few people in the world who doesn't hate Pete, because according to himself, everyone does. I don't follow American pop culture or politics, so maybe I'm out of the loop, but I don't have a single reason to dislike him, other than his terrible taste in women. His early comedy specials were fantastic - and that's all I knew about him going into this.
Unfortunately it's a bit too much like Louie - the most beta male "exaggerated version of a celeb" show to ever exist - which hinders it several times.
But it also has a ton of heartwarming moments, some realness, some good comedy...
I don't know if Pete's a bad person or not, but regardless, if he were a female pop culture personality - he wouldn't be getting all this excessive hate. It wouldn't be that socially acceptable. But he's a guy - so I guess it is? American logic in a nutshell.
I wish he would speak out about this a bit. Johnny Depp was forced to, and I'm pretty sure Pete is kinda being forced to have the balls to speak out on the hypocrisy of male vs female treatment by the media.
Anyway, good show. If you're a fan of Pete, you'll like it. If you're not - I don't know why you'd watch it. Also, Art The Clown makes a random appearance, which was a huge plus.

Yes, I really never cared for anything Pete Davidson did. I thought he was kind of "not funny" on SNL. My buddy told me about Bupkis and I told him "Not wasting my time". Then I was at his house waiting for him to get ready to go bowling and his wife had it on while I was sitting with her. Come to find out that is how he got me to watch it. I was laughing so damn hard, I went home after bowling and binged it. It is a very good show and this type of show is what Pete Davidson looks like he really has talent. So even if you are like me and don't really care for Pete Davidson much, you will like him in this show for sure.
Pete Davidson is playing Pete Davidson... sort of. He's living back home on Staten Island with his mother Amy (Edie Falco). Joe Larocca (Joe Pesci) is his grandpa. He's tired of being the butt of everybody's jokes. In the pilot, he comes on his mother and helps his Uncle Roy (Brad Garrett) come inside a hooker.
It's not the first time that a celebrity is using his real life as fodder for comedic material. Pete Davidson is well suited for this with all his unstable tabloid stories. He dabbles a little with the surreal. It has good potential. It could be a standout if he gets even better. It could be his Atlanta. Of course, he quits after one season. He claims that this part of his life is done. I hope that doing some of his best work isn't the "life" that is over.

I'm not a big fan of his, I don't think his stand up is good and I don't think he's a good actor. He was great in the CC Roasts though. However this show is great, he's great in it, the supporting cast is great, the dialogue is great, im just very pleasantly surprised. I'm particularly impressed with the supporting cast, it's amazing. So many great actors playing family members who themselves can steal an entire episode. I've gotten emotional a few times already and laughed out loud which is the ultimate range I'm looking for in a great show. This is a play on Pete's life so as long as he doesn't do anything too stupid to get cancelled, there will be plenty of material to be had as well. I look forward to it.
