Shonda Rhimes has claimed that there are genuine jitters in the U.S. that network storytelling is being self-censored during Donald Trump’s second term in office.

The creative powerhouse behind Bridgerton and Grey’s Anatomy said she could not comment directly on the decision-making processes that led to Paramount and Disney settling separate lawsuits with Trump, but confessed: “It definitely feels that way to a lot of people, that there is self-censoring going on.”

Appearing in front of an enraptured audience at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Rhimes said she was not stifling her own storytelling instincts, saying she still has the power to “make the shows that matter to me.”

Neither Hulu nor anyone from the production team or cast has officially revealed the reasons for cancelling the show. The combined context, including strategic choices, perceived promotion issues, and industry norms, likely influenced the decision not to renew it for Season 3.

NBC has announced a series of actors set to appear in the second season of its medical drama, “Brilliant Minds.” Porsha Williams, Molly Bernard, Connor Tomlinson and Laura Vandervoort will each guest star in one of the first three episodes of the new season of the Zachary Quinto-led series.

The first season of “Brilliant Minds” premiered on NBC on Sept. 23, 2024. The medical drama draws inspiration from books of case histories by writer and neurologist Oliver Sacks. Quinto stars in the series as Oliver Wolf, a neurologist at Bronx General Hospital. Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh Lathrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II and Teddy Sears also star.

Williams, who hails from “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and will appear on the next season of “The Traitors,” is set to guest star in the season premiere of “Brilliant Minds.” Williams will portray Bitsy, a rich, gossiping housewife who visits the private practice of psychiatrist Dr.

With Al Calderon being cast as a series regular on “Brilliant Minds,” it looks like “Days of our Lives” will indeed be recasting the role of Javi Hernandez.

Although a spokesperson for the daytime drama series told Soap Opera Network, “We do not comment on the contract status of our actors, but fans should not worry, ‘Javi’ is alive and well in Salem,” following news of Calderon joining the NBC primetime medical drama, Deadline reported on Wednesday that the soap opera is seeking to recast his role.

According to the outlet, Calderon has been busy taping new episodes of “Days of our Lives,” which are slated to air in May 2026.

Calderon first appeared in Salem in October 2024, though he began taping episodes at the soap opera in February 2024, a result of the soap’s advanced tape-to-air schedule.

Netflix has a new series that's making waves on the platform just a few days after its release — The Hunting Wives. The show premiered on the streaming platform on Jul. 21 and has become an instant hit.

The Hunting Wives is an adaptation of May Cobb's book series of the same name, and marks the perfect replacement for shows like Big Little Lies, The Perfect Couple, or Desperate Housewives. The series follows a woman who moves with her husband from Boston to a small town in Texas and enters the social circle of her neighbor, realizing their lives are more scandalous than they seemed. Per FlixPatrol, The Hunting Wives has been moving up the charts since it premiered, settling on No. 2 in the Top 10 TV charts.

Netflix‘s soapy new mystery stars Brittany Snow as Sophie O’Neill, a Bostonian housewife and former political PR rep. After moving to Maple Brook for her husband’s job, Sophie molds herself to fit in with the rich society women of the Texas town, ditching her sobriety, going to church and even hitting the shooting range to be included in the group.

When a murder takes place, a shocking twist makes some of the women primary suspects. Snow stars opposite Malin Akerman, who plays the wife of a billionaire businessman with several secrets of her own.

Netflix finally has a replacement for HBO's Big Little Lies with The Hunting Wives. Both series are based on bestselling novels and follow women with dark secrets.

The Hunting Wives premiered on Netflix on Jul. 21. Based on May Cobb's series of the same name, the new series follows a woman as she moves with her family from Boston to Texas and gets close to a group of women with unexpected hobbies. Following its release, The Hunting Wives debuted with an encouraging 70% approval score from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The new drama series' score might not be the best, but it comes from only 10 reviews. Out of all of them, seven are positive, and most are based on three hours of footage out of the eight episodes. Since the series debuted on Netflix recently, there is no audience score available.

However, the early reaction from the critics is positive.

Former Scandal star Columbus Short’s wife, Aida Abramyan-Short, has been granted a temporary restraining order against her husband.

On July 14, Aida filed for a temporary restraining order against Short, alleging that he had acted violently with her as recently as last week. In court filings, Aida claimed that on July 7, she was doing laundry when a drunk Short snapped at her and put his hands on her.

Aida said Short yelled at her, “Don’t slam the f—ing door b—-. Your mouth is gonna get you in trouble! Shonda Rhimes‘ political thriller Scandal aired its finale, Over a Cliff, in 2018. Unfortunately, this finale left much to be desired, particularly regarding one of the show’s standout characters, Jake Ballard. He certainly did not receive the ending he deserved. Over the seven seasons, Jake evolved into one of the most morally complex characters in the show.

While nearly every other character walked away with some form of peace and redemption, Jake was shoved into a prison cell and left to rot. The show’s ending still stings. Re-watching Scandal on Netflix makes me realize Jake Ballard wasn’t just mistreated – in fact, he was used as a convenient plot punching bag.

On Monday (July 14), it was announced that the 55-year-old actress, best known for playing President Mellie Grant on Scandal, had booked a recurring guest star role on the NBC medical drama series starring Zachary Quinto.

Young will star as Dr. Amelia Frederick, the seasoned clinical director for a long-term mental healthcare facility. The NBC medical drama is inspired by the real life work of author and physician Oliver Sacks. The two shows both premiered in the spring and had four-week runs in Netflix’s internal, worldwide top 10 rankings, with The Residence lasting a bit longer than than in Nielsen’s U.S. streaming charts. As usual, Netflix does cost-benefit analysis in making renewal or cancellation decisions.

The Residence is a White House-set murder mystery starring Uzo Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, the “greatest detective in the world.” The series hails from Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland and creator/showrunner Paul William Davies (Scandal). Had the series gone forward, the plan was for it to become an anthology with Cupp taking on a new case each season.
