  • Wheelchair-bound Lars and Philip and their blind mate Jozef, all in their twenties, desperately long for a coming of age journey and the end of virginity. They convince their parents to let them drive through France to Spain in a specially equipped minibus, chaperoned by experienced nurse Theo, omitting that their Spanish destination is near an accommodating brothel. Lars gets a diagnosis spelling early death and Theo cancels, but Lars convinces his mates to go anyway, with the bus being driven by Theo's francophone friend, the obese Claude. Nothing goes to plan, yet satisfaction is found until the bitter end.—KGF Vissers

Sinopse

  • Lars, Philip and Jozef are friends in their twenties who are physically disabled. They continue to live with their parents who take care of them. Jozef is almost completely blind (he can only read up close with a magnifying glass). A spinal cord injury prevents Philip from walking, and he has limited use of his hands and arms: he steers his wheelchair with one hand only; he cannot type, so he uses a device that he holds with his mouth. With a terminal brain tumor, Lars also has to use a wheelchair (he suffers from increasing paralysis with strokes). Despite this, the three young men are determined to lose their virginity in a Spanish brothel that offers services tailored to them. To their parents, however, they disguise the purpose of their trip as a trip to the vineyards of Bordeaux.

At first, the parents paid lip service to the idea of the trip, but soon after, Lars learned that he had an aggressive cancer and was forbidden to travel. But the disabled youngsters decide not to give up and to go whether the families want to or not. The original nurse refused to accompany them without their parents' permission but recommended a person named Claude to replace her. They negotiate by e-mail despite the price. Philippe agrees to pay the most because he has savings. They embark on an adventurous journey through France to Spain, with the help of a young woman who serves as their driver and nurse. Totally dependent on their parents, they escape their surveillance and leave without their knowledge. The parents catch up with them during the journey, but the revolt of the three friends finally convinces the parents to let them fulfill their dream.

Beyond the logistical constraints that create bad moods and misunderstandings between the three handicapped people and their driver, unexpected bonds are created. To their great amazement, the three friends notice that Claude is a woman, and that she speaks French. Lars and Philip find her unattractive, partly because of her obesity, and at first because she is rigid. Since she claims not to know Dutch, they feel they can say bad things about her without her understanding them. Philip in particular does not like her. They think she is stingy because she demands a large daily allowance but does not eat in restaurants: she picnics in the car. She is, however, capable and dedicated and saves Joseph when he falls overboard (later she laconically says that it is not good business when customers die in the process), and she defends Lars against a man who has put himself in the position of a "bad guy".
