"One Way Street" deals with the contrast between the different walls faced by a small group of characters living in the exact same neighborhood. They are opposite forces, one
must keep away from the other but eventually there might be a chance those distant forces can collide with each other.
A great tension is built when we are introduced to
each character and then we understand the two groups: one composed by two security guards who guard the walls of a condo located a poor neighborhood, and two criminal types
who are very good friends and they honestly believe they command everything around them. The guards keep on complaining about the cost so high and the gain so low (too much
work for so little money) at the same time they dream about a better life; as for the bandits one tries to warn the other that a dangerous rumor about him going out with the
place's boss is circling around and that he must keep his eyes open because things might happen - those are in a more conflicting position with themselves as opposed to the
friendly security men, who can even joke between themselves.
One can say they are reflecting about the exact same things in their particular line of work - if one consider selling drugs and robbery as work,
but the money comes anyway. The honest guys are at risk of losing their jobs due to a possible strike from the category and one man advises the other of what to do;
and the bad guys are trying to work things out between themselves when one tries to help his best friend to be wise and do the right thing and be careful. What also differs
them is how they approach one another with their ideas and the results vary (obviously) and that's where they both clash at each other. Or at least, they could clash.
The makers of the film talk about the one-way streets of our lives where two decisive choices can be made: either turn back or go along and probably hit what's in
front. Either you clash or you retract a bit. It's a movie about choices, the value of listening and react accordingly, stop and reassess things. It's how you react while facing the challenge the counts the most.
It's quite obscure, there's
some tension rising all around but it's a pity it doesn't pay all that much. We create such a high expectation and the moment doesn't come at all. Just slightly. It's all well-acted and there's a great sense of curiosity formed since we expect plenty of dangers to come. Enjoyable. 8/10.
