Dmm.com has officially confirmed that Kill Blue, the manga from Kuroko’s Basketball creator Tadatoshi Fujimaki, will receive a television anime adaptation in 2026. The series will be directed by Hiro Kaburagi, best known for his work on Great Pretender and Kimi Ni Todoke.

The announcement was made alongside the release of a teaser visual and a promotional video.

The action comedy manga Kill Blue announced today that a TV anime adaptation is currently in the works for 2026. A teaser trailer, art and key staff were revealed for the newly announced project. Hiro Kaburagi ( Kimi ni Todoke – From Me to You ) directs the TV anime at animation studio Cue, with Miho Daidoji providing the character designs. The anime industry is by far one of Japan's most lucrative enterprises, with many popular studios amassing millions -- or even billions -- of yen in profit each year. A newly-surfaced data report has revealed the most recently disclosed net profit of 25 prominent individual studios, including Studio Ghibli, Bandai Namco Filmworks (Mobile Suit Gundam), CloverWorks and more.

This data was initially largely published in Japan's Official Gazette, a public journal that contains detailed financial disclosures from Japan-based companies. A Redditor known as Mazen141 shared the data via the R/anime subreddit. The resulting chart provides anime lovers with an overview of how much their favorite studios have earned from their respective IPs. Based on Natsuki Takaya’s manga of the same name, Fruits Basket is anything but a bog-standard romance anime. It is a perfect blend of love, friendships, and betrayal. It is gripping in its portrayal of dysfunctional families.

Yona of the Dawnis a shojo high fantasy anime based on the manga series by Mizuho Kusanagi. The manga series began in the early 2000s, and is forty-four volumes long as of June 2024. Despite Kusanagi's work having such an epic story and committed readership, the anime was canceled after its first season.

The Yona of the Dawn anime tragically joined the shojo graveyard where so many promising and extremely well-received series were canceled after only one or two seasons. Similar to the Ouran High School Host Club fan base, there will always be a committed and hopeful audience that would love to see a renaissance for the Yona of the Dawn anime.

The debate between modern and classic romance anime has been ongoing for decades. While classic anime offers a nostalgic hit, modern anime offers better animation and a less problematic plot. However, series like Nana, Fruits Basket, and Ouran High School Host Club can never be replaced by modern anime, and there’s a good reason for it.

From the lack of originality to less development in the series, the problems that modern anime face are endless. While some series manage to shine, others fall into the black hole of cliched plots and characters.

Since classic anime came first, there was way more scope for exploration. They had the edge of being the trendsetters during their time, something that classic series took full advantage of. While modern anime can offer better visuals and animation, the plot can feel cliched at times.

Tokyo Ghoul is one of the most iconic dark fantasy anime of its time, but it’s been clouded by the missteps of its adaptation. Fans of Sui Ishida’s manga have been left disappointed over how the anime failed to capture the brilliance of the story that made the series grow as large as it did. Due to multiple deviations and anime-only plotlines, Tokyo Ghoul didn’t have a chance to show off its true potential.

But, as in many cases, when official material fails, fans are quick to step in and imagine what could be. Recently, a stunning fan-made poster offered a glimpse into what a faithful remake could look like. The poster garnered attention online and left fans imagining the promise a remake could hold for the series. A faithful adaptation could bring Tokyo Ghoul back into the spotlight and give it the full recognition it deserves.

Shojo is one of the most popular anime demographics, targeted particularly at the young female audience.
