I honestly thought Season 1 wasnt very good, but I kept watching, and somehow it sucked me in. Season 2 is where this show grows to something really interesting at times but still keeps its overly dramatic young adult stuff, it could've been so much better.
This show has some decent Star Trek-like episodic stories. Captain Garnet even has a classic Captain Janeway's "What the hell is going on?!" moment.
I like the difference yet similarity of the spaceships, establishing their own distinct style for the show.
Maddox vs. Trust was a decent plot with some good backstory.
The augmented superhuman Kelly with nanites was a decent subplot because it has some obvious holes.
The GSA vs. EF subplot was also pretty good.
Pavle Jerinic as Felix and Paul Murray as William Trust were great casting choices, they did a great job.
I liked it because it felt like a cheesy '90s sci-fi show with no budget, like using Reece Ritchie to play both Spencer and Ian was a clever way to cut costs.
With that ending? I would love to find out what happened with the other Arks and the colonists at Ross-128B. Higher life?
Its clearly setting up a Season 3 right?
It feels a bit like they are building toward a Star Fleet kind of thing and im all for that!
Hope for Season 3 and a movie!

Like a lot of reviews listed here, I was not impressed with the first couple of episodes (bad acting, bad plot, bad f/x, etc.), but I stuck it out, and am glad I did. The characters have developed nicely, not every episode is "disaster of the week," and subplots are intriguing. I've begun to care about the characters, which is a 180 flip from when I first started watching.
It's always tough to figure out how good/bad a show is going to be after the first episode; especially with a large cast. But the writers have done a good job with creating depth, and some surprises along the way.
As a sci-fi show, the f/x are minimal and middle of the road CG; just enough to let you know it's a show in space.
The Ark is not great, but is getting better with each episode.

Yes, it is a cheaply produced show, but all the culture snobs who write reviews after 15 minutes watching the pilot are simply that: unreliable snobs who have no clue about anything and you shouldn't listen to.
The show's characters are loveble enough to keep watching the first few episodes.
At latest in the 5th episode it starts getting interesting and at the 7th episode the mytery is pretty exciting to wait eagerly for the next episode.
This show at least doesn't try to pretend being an oscar winning drama by getting into politics and intrigues "in medias res", making you just turning your head around, wondering who is with whom. You also don't need 3 seasons to watch for finally learning to distinguish the two asian women from eachother, like so many shows do nowadays, like Star Trek Discovery or Star Wars Andor, just to name a few from the sci-fi genre.
This is a show for relaxing. It doesn't want to change the world nor tries to win anything, it just wants to entertain you and it does the job well.

I actually like it. Not stop problems happening on the ship and possibly Aliens attacking them. I really think this will only get better as well by the second season. Like most Series. I'm not just why it has such a low rating overall, because when you look at the Episodes individually, they all have a really high score. Such as the series finale. It's an 8/10 and it's bloody good. So ignore these neigh sayers and make you own minds up. The basic story is the World is in its way out. Hence the Ark. I can certainly see this becoming a Sci-Fi Classic for sure. I'm now just waiting on season Two.

A decent budget has clearly been wasted on a terrible story with a great premise. The script is so patronizing to the target audience with all the cliche high school characters and hackneyed villains. These people have been chosen for a mission crucial to humanity's survival and were selected from hundreds of thousands of applicants and passed rigorous testing and training and yet they behave like naughty brats in the schoolyard. It reminds me of the mass produced flash cartoons of the 2000's.
A lost opportunity for the show creators who went for a committee designed, safe option, resulting in something that watches like you've already seen it and were not impressed the first time.

Despite the somewhat low budget cheese factor I've watched both seasons. With occasional fast forward (sorry gardener boy) I've found it pretty enjoyable and fun to watch. B movie vibes for sure but chill. Eye candy characters. Not meant for thoughtful analysis but decent entertainment.
The Star Trek Inner Light homage episode was cool to see.. although light on the consequences of that experience.
Speaking of Light that kind of describes this show but sci fi lovers can get their fix from different sources. Give it a shot.

At least that's what it feels like, 15 minutes into the first episode. Anyone looking for the next Expanse or For All Mankind will likely be disappointed. As for plot and characters, cliche-riddled doesn't even begin to describe it. I really don't want to waste any more time reviewing it but I'm short of characters so I'll send out a plea- why doesn't anyone start with some solid material? Where is my Cyteen/company wars/merchanters series? Why can't anyone remake The Lathe of Heaven that does the source material justice? Uplift wars? Well of Souls? Hee Chee and the event horizon? Rendezvous with Rama? The Incal? And then the powers that be cancel Pantheon.

I LOVE the concept, premise and decor/aesthetic of this show even though this series started out pretty rough at the beginning of the first season.
The young adult performances and script didn't impress me, though that could be due to my personal preferences. Their relationships seem very surface-level and distract from the decent to good story that an episode is trying to tell.
It reminds me of Star Trek Discovery where the main characters stop in the middle of a fire fight to talk about love and do some kissing. Like thats not the right time to do that!
Season 2 ramped up the overall quality especially the writing and acting less so the graphics but i do not care too much about that.
Really hope they get a chance to do another couple of seasons atleast Season 3 and maybe a movie.

Formulaic space-opera with the classic tropes of Star Trek. A colony ship wakes early from cryo, to find they have been hit by something and half of its crew complement, the entire command echelon, is lost.
The survivors have only 3 young lieutenants and even younger crew. I almost stopped watching at this point, a crew of teenagers? Led by junior girl Lieutenant?
But I puddled on, and the Star Trek plot formula appeared, an onboard disaster, an alien encounter, a weird planet etc in self-contained weekly episodes. Meanwhile the 6 or 7 main characters, cringeworthy cliches, flesh out with a backstory or two... and we have the Star Trek formula crew, the Chief Engineer, the cocky pilot/navigator, the taciturn Security Chief and so on. Along with cheesy romance, some mystery and intrigue sub-plots.
Sure, it's B-grade sci-fi with cheap production, but still entertaining enough with surprisingly fast-paced action, to keep me engaged. I gave 6 stars, with an extra star to help balance the negatives on here.

First off - I was REALLY looking forward to this show for a long time. I watched a bit of it ........ And then a bit more - and finally put on the mute button to read the reviews. And I thought, oh my God, am I going to be the only person who thinks this sucks pond water?
Nope.
The one thing no one else addressed that caught my eye as ludicrous was their 'meal plan' - putting a small, beautifully embossed box, on a full size tray that you'd find in a school cafeteria for a meal. I had to check it out a couple of times to make sure it was a dumb as I thought. It was.
If there is a theme to this program it is exactly that - things are so flagrantly Dumb.
I'm not, so won't be watching anymore of this sad show.

It's a little cheesy, the cast are mostly young and unknown, and it isn't Star Trek production values.
But I like it. The characters are kinda likeable if some are a little over the top. The effects are okay. And the premise ... well, that builds. And by the end of season 2, it has opened out to endless possibilities.
Don't expect dazzling effects, aliens (at least not yet) and Shakespeare standards of acting. Approach it with an open mind and what it will give you is action with very little in the way of boring, drawn out filling, character relationships that aren't soppy, danger at every turn, human conflict, and constant surprises.
It's a series that grows.
It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but give it a try and you might actually find you like it.

The premise is interesting, though I've seen this idea before. The first episode wasn't very good because of poor acting. But we've continued to watch it (finished 4 episodes so far) and I have say it's both growing on me and the acting is better - most of the actors are growing into their characters and becoming more believable, and evoking my own emotions such as finding some likeable, some irritating. I was glued to my seat during episode 3 and worried about what was going to happen next. The crew seems to be in one crisis after another, which can be tiresome as a continuous plot device. I am being entertained now, though I can't give it more than a 6 at this point.

Hoping for better and expecting worse. The premise is good though hardly original but there the good part ends. I have to wonder if after watching the finished product the creators looked at each other and said " Hey this is some good stuff ". They must have because somehow this is now a tv show.. the sets look like they were filmed at a high school, the acting and CGI are subpar but not awful. Where the show truly fails is the characters. Remember the pilot of Lost and TWD where you were quickly invested in the characters? Definitely not here. Nobody stands out . I guarantee that after this you'll never hear from 80% of these actors again. A couple veteran actors would have gone a long way but nope; just a bunch of uninteresting faces. A strong lead would have helped too. The characters are not particularly whiny and a couple worked well together but I don't remember a single name. Will be flabbergasted if this gets a second season.

Once again a vastly expensive spaceship is crewed by the most dysfunctional reprobates that could be dredged up. Time after time we see this hackneyed format. I'd love to see a competent crew just once.
On top of that there's the comedically low budget with tracksuits for spacesuits and "helmets" that require a false sealing sound to be played on each use. Add in the budget cgi too. To round it off some parts of the ship have magic gravity.
I could live with the low cost production if I wasn't treated to the moronic crew aspect. I appreciate it's harder to write a good story around a competent crew so find a writer that can and pay them instead of this formulaic repeat.

This is not meant to be a hard hitting, realistic, edge of your seat big budget blockbuster with gritty plots, and top of the line cg. I was entertained without any anxiety or stress. I thought it was a fun and easy to watch sci-fi adventure. The set up of the characters leaves plenty of openings for adventures and plots twists, challenges and feel good victories. There will some drama, some lighthearted storylines, and some romance. Have you seen any of Dean Devlin's shows? Leverage, The Librarians, The Outpost? They are fun, easy going, with a little flash bang action with a variety of characters to develope. Relax Gene Siskel. Just grab a snack and have some pg-13 fun. Then go to bed, the alarm and the real world come early in the morning.

The Ark is another abysmal show from the modern "entertainment" industry. It started with several minutes of annoying loud noise (mute inspiring rather than exciting), and then the cast started talking, which was essentially quieter annoying noise. The characters were dull, shallow, stereotypes and the dialogue was inane babble used to point out the mystery boxes. This show sounds like it was written by Jr. High kids who flunked creative writing. It's the typical and uninteresting formula of mystery boxes + social drama + CGI that comprises almost every show these days. Stupid, boring, and not worth my time. This show is horrible.

I started the Ark with an amused interest. Season 1 seemed very cheesy at the beginning but by the end of S2 I was hooked. The characters become well developed and the relationships on the ship are interesting. Ship design and technology are a little in need such as adding furniture to the halls of Ark 15 to pretend its a different ship, and the communicator wrist/sweat bands. Also using Cpap masks in one episode as breathing devices. Overall the episodes get better and better each week. By the finale you find yourself rooting for the crew and wondering what adventures they may have next. The cliffhanger ending leaves you needing more.
Hope it's renewed!

Yes, there were lots of plot holes. Yes, the CGI was bad. That's all true... But if you're looking for simple storytelling, this show is definitely enjoyable enough for you to pass your time with.
It's much better than the new Saved by the Bell, or the new Gossip Girl if you want my honest opinion, and even those shows had positive reviews. What about Will Trent? Does it have anything interesting, or intelligent? Yet, it has a strong following too.
For a non-sophisticated person like myself, I would give this show a few more episodes before declaring that it's moronic and beyond redemption.
And to that someone(s) citing Newton's First Law of Motion, if you have to travel like a million lightyears, relying just on inertia alone isn't gonna take you anywhere, you'll need thrust (for both the speed and navigation).

I have no idea how this got greenlit they seem to have no budget. Just not good. Shows that came out 10 years ago had better CGI than this does, I can't help but draw parallel to Stargate universe similar kind of idea stranded on a ship that's broken and falling apart the only difference is universe did it way better looked better with better actors over 10 years ago. Pass for me.
Well I guess my review was too short and I need to add a few more characters so I guess I'll just say it's still a terrible show terrible CGI acting is not great I hope their checks cleared. I'd be shocked if this gets a second season.

I'm surprised by the barrage of negative reviews. I binged the first 9 episodes and found the show quite interesting. Everyone is respectfully entitled to their opinion, and to be fair, "the Ark" does have MANY FLAWS. Of course, the show's premise of a journey to a new world is not exactly original. Storytelling-wise, it's no BSG or the Expanse, and the CGI is hardly anything to boast about, but when did Scifi shows reduce to just CGI? It's a limited-budget show, and they had to improvise in many areas. Given the constraints, the frugal yet efficient use of resources and execution of a fine script is worthy of applause.
The casting is alright. Of course, the show is lite on big stars, and the character development is disappointing. Almost every scene is crowded, and individual characters or their backstories are seldom or shabbily explored. Therefore, it's tough for the audience to connect to any character. In fact, many storylines are rushed. Garnet's sister or Eva's initial lover served no purpose at all.
However, not all is negative. The banter between the cast is HILARIOUS, each crisis is uniquely designed to THRILL the audiences and the show's central MYSTERY is wrapped neatly. Overall, the show holds a lot of promise. The bad reviews may be due to the initial few episodes, which were agreeably underwhelming. But the show does get better. It's unfair to discard the show hurriedly.
With Syfy, series renewals can be tricky. The low budget is a positive for season 2, but the bad reviews might sink the show. Interestingly, while not great, the viewership is higher than some other shows that were renewed. If it does get renewed, I hope for better characterization, dialogues, and a whole lot better science (currently, the science is laughable and totally understandable if that's what is contributing to low ratings).

Is it reinventing the wheel? No. Is it deep thinking or brilliant? No not really.
As someone who watched BSG and the expense, but fully enjoyed the likes of the 100, it's worth a shot.
Easy downtime tv series that generates enough intrigue and interest to watch. But also isn't so in depth that it requires 100% of your attention.
Easy watch, low budget, and the show runners clearly see that. The show knows its audience, writing isn't the A** of previous sifi shows, but it is such a chill fun watch. I'd compare it to SNOWPIECER standard.
Overall a fun easy watch and I'd recommend it to any sifi geek who's looking for a fun binge.

It's hard to get through this show. The pilot runs through a basic story background and the crew introduction so fast along with a constant crisis mode that it is actually stressful to watch.
The following episodes include more personal drama and it sometimes feels they bought a crisis pack at a bargain. A lot of cringy moments that made me think: Really? Yes, really. The acting is ok I guess considering how the characters were created.
Special effects and setting are on the lighter side. Meaning, it's usually bright. They don't try to scare you. However rhe look is somewhat "to clean". Elements of the setting look 3D printed.
Don't expect any science. There rarely is any. And if there is science one character explains the most basic things to another so that really every member of the audience gets it. The core audience seems to be people without any technical background. Sci-Fi first timers I guess. If you seen science fiction before: disable the memory of that in your brain.
There is some hope though. Episode 7 is the first that uses the potential of that universe. Still some cringy moments and personal drama but at least the storyline is set in the right way and you get additional context (way to late in my opinion but this seems to be a choice by the makers of this show.
Hope that helps. The ratings of each episode is going partly up, because a lot of critical people just give up. But there is actually improvement, albeit very very slow.

Its not meant to be "2001 - A Space Odyssey". For what it is its a fine easy watch. The characters are varied and interesting, there's plenty of twists and turns. The sets are fine, story is fine. As a sci fi nerd, you've got to be realistic and take what you can get. This is a good effort for a small budget and its unreasonable to expect every sci fi to be like The Expanse or Foundation. All I ask for is something to satiate my need to a reasonable and regular dose of sci fi. People who us the word "Morons" in their reviews are being way too harsh. I think its time people stop expecting everything to be top notch and perfect and have realistic expectations. Sure their are plenty of things you could be picky about, but that's why you use your imagination. Sure you could laugh at the producers and actors, but I'd prefer to laugh at the quirks of the show. Sci Fi is meant to be about having fun and I find The Ark to be old fashioned good fun and after each episode I fell good so that's a win for me. I'm not going to waste time watching "The Bachelor " or "Real Housewives" and end the episode feeling annoyed at the state of humanity and its plethora of broken people.

You've read some reviews where people refer to the CGI as bad. This is true. You've also heard that the acting is sub par, which is also true. The biggest "oof", as it were, is also in the writing of the show, not just the character interactions, but the characters themselves, and the science.
The show goes out of its way to sort of establish a set of rules for the space that the people here inhabit, how life functions, and so forth, then 5 minutes later they break those rules. Science all of a sudden doesn't matter, and it is all about resolving whatever issue it is that they are experiencing while creating even more chaos.
These people are also supposed to be highly skilled in the fields that they work in, but 99% of the time they behave like high-schoolers. Their actions makes no sense at all.
Nothing in this show is realistic, nothing makes any sense. It is all rush-rush-rush, survive, argue, technical mumbo-jumbo word vomit, and magical skills.
I felt thoroughly frustrated throughout the first episode. Vehemently shaking my head whilst shouting at my screen.
It isn't worth the trouble, nor the dissatisfaction that you will experience.

Ugh. Where do I begin?!? If only the low-budget production was the only problem. The cast seems like they chose the first 20 or so people in the line for a casting call looking for woke teens. The story is a mashup of sci-fi tropes that required no imagination by the writers. The screenwriters and producers should be ashamed.
The story begins with the usual cryo-sleep crew being awakened by--yes, you guessed it--a calamity that strikes the ship in mid-journey. Of course, that wakes up one of them who wakes up the others. The senior crew members are lost in the accident, and now they are stranded on the ship to fend for themselves. Sounds familiar? Done a million times over.
This show needs to be canceled quickly, and the airtime recovered.
