The first adaptation of a "Vincke & Verstuyft" novel to be released after the death of author Jef Geeraerts in 2015, which is why the movie is dedicated to his memory.
Based on Jef Geeraerts's novel 'Double-face'. Although this is the third adaptation of one of the novels in his "Vincke & Verstuyft" series (following Alzheimer Case (2003) and Dossier K. (2009)), it is based on the fifth book, whereas the previous two movies were based on the second and eighth book respectively. This explains why Linda de Leenheer (Hilde De Baerdemaeker, who died in Dossier K., is not in this movie, even though her character featured in the novel.

Jan Verheyen returned as director after originally claiming that he wouldn't, stating that he felt that this was a job for a young new director (the bigger budget and logistical challenges of this sequel may have ruled out that option). In contrast, Jappe Claes was slated to return as the corrupt prosecutor Bracke, but his character was written out.
'Het Tweede Gelaat' (The Second Face) was originally the working title for this adaptation of Jef Geeraerts's novel, but it was eventually chosen as the actual title, because according to director Jan Verheyen, the novel's title 'Double Face' simply didn't work.
