Valiant Comics, along with Alien Books and author Mauro Mantella, have been called out for transphobic content in the debut issue of their new Bloodshot reboot. Though the publisher has issued an apology in response to outrage from readers and other comic creators alike, many fans argue that it falls short, considering how egregiously the book parrots anti-trans rhetoric.

Valiant Beyond: Bloodshot #1, written by Mantella, features a monologue from the main character which parallels transphobic talking points, describing “kids who want to be bitten by vampires because their favorite influencer say they are one.”

Bloodshot’s publisher attributed this to “nuance being lost in translation,” but numerous readers feel that explanation doesn’t hold weight.

The project hails from Bird Box and Shadow and Bone executive producer Ed Heisserer, who serves as the project’s writer and EP via his Chronology studio. Amazon’s Pacific Rim TV series is a prequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 giant robot battle romp starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Rinko Kikuchi.

According to sources, the plot remains a mystery, though new films in the franchise could emerge in addition to the prequel series. Pacific Rim earned $411M+ worldwide, with a sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising, and an animated series, Pacific Rim: The Black, getting two action-packed seasons on Netflix. According to the trade, Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow is among those being invited to pitch their take on the Dcu movie. Beyond his comic book movie experience (which includes the script for 2020's Bloodshot), the filmmaker has helmed critically panned horror flicks like Truth or Dare, Fantasy Island, and Imaginary.

Ultimately, DC Studios will choose the filmmaker they believe is right for the job but Watkins feels like the better fit given his filmography includes the likes of Eden Lake and The Woman in Black.

The Masters of the Universe star Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson has offered an update on the long-gestating reboot of the beloved ‘80s franchise. Jóhannesson, who can currently be seen making his MCU debut as Serpent Society member Copperhead in Captain America: Brave New World, has revealed that filming on the Amazon movie is set to start very soon.

Speaking with Deadline at the premiere for the MCU sequel (which has proven to be surprisingly divisive), Jóhannesson offered some insight into when Masters of the Universe will go before cameras, the prep it has taken to get there, and the “fun script” that will shape this new take on He-Man.

Morena Baccarin and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson have been cast in the upcoming live-action feature film “Masters of the Universe,” based on the iconic Mattel franchise, Amazon MGM and Mattel announced on Monday.

Baccarin is playing the Sorceress and Jóhannesson is playing Fisto. Both actors would star alongside Nicholas Galitzine in the role of He-Man, Camila Mendes, who is playing Teela, Alison Brie as “Evil-Lyn,” and Idris Elba (Duncan/Man-at-Arms), which TheWrap first exclusively reported.

Travis Knight is directing the film from a screenplay by Chris Butler. Plot details are being kept under wraps for the film, which will be released exclusively in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026. The movie will be produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films.

Vin Diesel was bitten by the acting bug very early in his life, having acted in a New York stage production of "Dinosaur Door" at the age of seven. The way Diesel came to be involved in "Dinosaur Door" was kismet. It seems that he and a few buddies had broken into the theater to vandalize it, but were caught by the theater manager. Rather than calling the police, Diesel and friends were offered parts in the play, which they accepted. Diesel ended up studying writing and filmmaking in college.

Diesel made his motion picture debut in 1990, playing an unnamed orderly in the Robin Williams/Robert De Niro drama "Awakenings." He was 23. One look at Guy Pearce’s filmography and it’s clear the actor has largely stayed away from big Hollywood studio fare over the years. One would have to go all the way back to 2013’s Marvel movie “Iron Man 3” to find Pearce’s last sizable role in a studio tentpole, although he did have smaller appearances in “Prometheus” and “Bloodshot.”

Pearce has stayed busy over the years with indie dramas and international fare, which he recently told GQ magazine was somewhat of a reaction to the bad experiences he had with a few studio films. After the success of “Memento,” Hollywood tried and failed to mold Pearce into a studio leading man with projects like 2002’s “The Count of Monte Cristo” and “The Time Machine.” The latter film, loosely based on H. G. Wells’ novel of the same name, was a notorious critical flop and a pain for Pearce to make.

Sometimes books are mega hits and get turned into movies that take off. There’s just something that captures the zeitgeist and it’s destined to be. Harry Potter came out of nowhere and then turned into a franchise of books, video games, Lego sets, and of course movies. Other times, authors release something that will undoubtedly get picked up as the track record for success is already there. This is the Stephen King special or even Michael Crichton when he was still active. Adaptations can come from cases of re-adaptations like Dracula, Frankenstein, and other classics that get recycled over and over again, especially of they fall into the public domain. There’s the rare case, though, that an unknown author has a manuscript pop and movie studios jump at the chance to create something new. The journey and strange tale of the author of Bird Box falls under that last category.

Prime Video set a December premiere date for its new video game-inspired series “Secret Level.”

The anthology series, which hails from the creators of “Love, Death & Robots,” will debut Dec. 10 on Prime Video globally, across 240 countries and territories. The Amazon streamer announced the news during the Gamescom Opening Night Live global live stream.

“Secret Level” consists of 15 episodes, with each one centered on an original short story set within the worlds of beloved video games. Episodes were inspired by titles like “Armored Core,” “Concord,” “Crossfire,” “Dungeons & Dragons,” “Exodus,” “Honor of Kings,” “Mega Man,” “New World: Aeternum,” “Pac-Man,” “Sifu,” “Spelunky,” “The Outer Worlds,” “Unreal Tournament” and “Warhammer 40,000.” One episode will also center on the Playstation world as it spotlights PlayStation Studios’ entities.

Prime Video touted that the series brings together “more game IP in a single series than has ever been done before.”

After all, "Pacific Rim" was both his first original English-language script and his first original film in seven years -- not to mention the film that marked his transition into a full-time Hollywood director.

Legendary Entertainment has entered into a first-look television deal with Eric Heisserer, Variety has learned exclusively.

Under the deal, Heisserer and Carmen Lewis — with whom Heisserer founded the production company Chronology — will develop and shepherd IP-driven and related projects for Legendary. The first project to be developed under the deal will be a “Pacific Rim” origin story series.

“Eric is a multitalented, prolific creator whose track record of critical and commercial successes speaks for itself,” said Jason Clodfelter, president of Legendary Television. “We are thrilled to launch our partnership with Eric, Chronology, and Carmen, with a new entry in the epic, globally popular ‘Pacific Rim’ universe. We are certain their vision will make for an enthralling expansion to Legendary’s beloved franchise.”

News of the TV first-look deal comes just under three weeks after it was announced that Heisserer and Chronology had set a first-look film deal at Sony Pictures.

Proyas penned the screenplay which is an adaptation of Karel Capek famous science fiction play R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots), published in 1920. Founded in the wake of the hit series Shadow And Bone, with Carmen Lewis who will oversee the deal, Chronology will focus on delivering elevated genre as theatrical experiences for Sony. Already in the works at the studio is Dissolution, a new grounded sci-fi novel by acclaimed author Nicholas Binge, which the company will co-produce with Temple Hill. Temple Hill’s Isaac Klausner and George Berman, who brought the book into the company and brought it to Heisserer to write, will oversee the project for the company.
