Walter Koenig came to "Star Trek" in only its second season, but he is part of the series' legacy thanks to his role as Ensign Pavel Chekov (not to mention being one of the few major "The Original Series" actors still with us). An American TV show featuring a Russian character as a good guy during the height of the Cold War? That was just one of the ways that "Star Trek" pushed the envelope.
Unfortunately, as you Trekkies reading know, "Star Trek" lasted only two more years after Koenig joined the cast in 1967; NBC canceled the show due to low ratings and the last episode first aired on June...

Zoë Kravitz recently spoke out about what she thinks should stay in the past when it comes to ’90s television, and she didn’t hold back on Friends.
The actress told Butler in an interview, “Super homophobic jokes on mainstream television. If you watch Friends now you’re like, ‘Whoa, that’s….’”
Kravitz added that the jokes in Friends go beyond typical punchlines. “Oh, so much in Friends. Like, things that aren’t punchlines are punchlines. It’s wild. So maybe that? We can keep that there,” she said.
Butler responded, “That’s crazy. Yeah, keep that in the ’90s!”

Zoë Kravitz recently called out some of the content in the hit ’90s sitcom Friends, saying that some jokes should have stayed in the past.

Exclusive: Fox is adding seasoned comedy writer-producer Hilary Winston to Going Dutch. Winston has joined the upcoming second season of the Fox single-camera comedy starring Denis Leary as co-showrunner alongside the series’ creator and Season 1 showrunner Joel Church-Cooper who previously developed the IFC series Brockmire.
Winston, Church-Cooper, Denis Leary and Jack Leary executive produce Going Dutch, which began production on its sophomore season this week. The series, wholly owned by Fox, is set to return in midseason.
Going Dutch centers on the arrogant, loudmouth U.S. Army Colonel Patrick Quinn (Denis Leary), who — after an epically unfiltered rant — is reassigned to the Netherlands, where he is punished with a command position at the least strategic army base in the world, notable for its Michelin Star-commissary, top-notch bowling alley, lavender-infused laundry and the best (and only) fromagerie in the U.S. Armed Forces. Back in 2022, a new CBS sitcom was announced that would see Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. playing a father-son duo. At the time, Deadline described "Poppa's House" as "a dream on-screen sitcom pairing [that's been] two decades in the making," and while that may have been a bit of an exaggeration, it was at least exciting to hear that Wayans Sr. was returning to network comedy following his successful ABC series "My Wife and Kids." That early 2000s sitcom ran for five seasons and became a beloved part of many a millennial's childhood. As such, Damon Wayans returning to multi-camera comedy seemed like it could be a success — especially if that comedy also starred his real-life son, with whom he had an undeniable comedic chemistry as evidenced by their previous collaborations.

Abby Elliott got her big break on Saturday Night Live doing impressions, following in the legacy of her family.
The Bear star starred on the NBC late-night sketch show for four seasons and in a recent interview, recalled what it was like to work there.
“Every week was a new week, and your happiness would depend on whether you got something on air or not, and if three weeks went by without a sketch, you’d think, ‘Uh-oh, am I going to be fired?’” Elliott said in an interview with The Independent. “There was always that looming threat of getting fired. That was the worst that could happen. And then, I kind of did.”
Elliot joined SNL in 2008 after dropping out of college in 2006 to enroll in improv classes following the encouragement of her father. The comedic star is known for impressions like Rachel Maddow, Drew Barrymore, and Angelina Jolie.

Apple TV+ may have a “Dope Thief,” but its dope queen has been thriving for two seasons now. In “Shrinking,” Jessica Williams, who rose to fame with the podcast and eventual HBO comedy variety special “2 Dope Queens,” plays fan favorite Gaby Evans, a colleague of psychotherapists Paul (Harrison Ford) and Jimmy (Jason Segel). In Season 2, Gaby navigates romance with Derrick (a new guy played by Damon Wayans Jr.), family dysfunction and a whole lot of two-steps forward, one-step back Gaby-ness that viewers have come to love. TheWrap spoke with Williams about her process and deep care of comedic timing, and why Harrison Ford is the Goat.

In the early 1990s, the hangout sitcom exploded in popularity as Americans collectively agreed that watching attractive, witty 20-somethings whine about their daily frustrations while loitering in their friends' kitchens or sharing a cup of coffee at the local spot was the best way to decompress after a long day. Shows like "Living Single," "Seinfeld," and "Friends" weren't workplace comedies, dramatic procedurals, or focused on the family; they were shows about people hanging out and proved that relatable, observational humor could be found in mundane situations like moving a couch up an apartment building stairwell or trying to find a car in a parking garage.
The style gained momentum in the 1980s, thanks to the success of "Cheers," but it was "Friends" that truly broke the mold as increasingly disillusioned Gen Xers entered adulthood, coinciding with TV networks' desperate search for "watch with dinner" programming. If sitcoms were slashers, "Cheers...

There's a new group of friends arriving in the television world this week, and they are loud, unique, memorable, and the perfect escape for our watch lists. FX on Hulu debuts the laugh-out-loud hilarious comedy series Adults, which comes from executive producer Nick Kroll and should be among the funniest and best new streaming comedy series of the year so far.
But before you can fall in love with the group of 20-something friends in Queens you wish you were hanging out with in real life, you have to know when and where to catch them. Oddly enough, for a show called Adults, the release schedule is a bit silly for the streaming era, but thankfully, it gives everyone a chance to watch! Let's get into how and where to tune into the show.

There’s a moment in FX’s Adults when Billie (Lucy Freyer), in an effort to win over an older boyfriend’s friends, joins in on their good-natured roasting of one of their own. Only, her joke doesn’t land. It’s too lewd and too loud; the middle-aged moms and dads listening are not just perplexed but offended. As they shuffle away, one mutters to another: “She is 24.”
At the risk, then, of sounding like the geriatric millennial I am: Adults, like Billie, feels very 24, at least in the sense that I remember myself at that age — bursting with energy but not always confident in its own perspective, not that it lets that keep it from shouting every passing thought at top volume. It can be a little exhausting, in a way that occasionally made me want to pull it aside and suggest it take a breath. But it’s also bright enough (and,...

Into every generation, a hangout sitcom is born — light on plot, and heavy on the chemistry of a group of young adults spending way too much time together in the big city. Gen X had Friends. The millennials had too many to count, including New Girl, How I Met Your Mother, and Happy Endings. Gen Z hasn’t quite had its own moment yet, in part because most show creators are at least in their thirties, in part because the TV business assumes that most of Gen Z is getting their video on nontraditional platforms.

Beloved Fox sitcom New Girl is getting a belated spoof from one of its network brethren, and two of the show's stars are along for the ride. Zooey Deschanel and Max Greenfield will lend their voices to this week's episode of The Simpsons. "Estranger Things," the thirty-sixth season finale of the undying animated series, will air this Sunday night on Fox and stream on Hulu the next day. Entertainment Weekly has a first look at Deschanel and Greenfield's appearances on the series.
In the clip, Lisa (Yeardley Smith) is watching the sitcom Quirk Girl on her tablet; she describes it as being "from the golden age of television: 2013." A thinly-veiled parody of New Girl, it stars a Deschanel lookalike who, Lisa gushes, "made it okay for cute girls to be pretty." Greenfield voices her roommate, the slick ladies' man Schultz, who's just borrowed a dog to help him pick up women.

Wrestlemania season is the most wonderful time of the year for wrestling fans, particularly the ones who follow WWE. Spanning from New Year's Eve to around Easter Sunday, World Wrestling Entertainment will culminate their biggest storylines of the year and pay them off on The Grandest Stage of Them All. Though many will look at the Showcase of Immortals as the "season finale" of the long-running wrestling promotion's programming for that year, professional wrestling doesn't have an off-season. In fact, depending on which streaming services you subscribe to, you can find yourself watching in-ring action from a different promotion every single day of the week.
However, what if wrestling fans want to take a break from the squared circle in favor of more traditional shows? Obviously, there is a plethora of shows and genres to choose from, but maybe they don't want to stray too far from the world of "The Man" Becky Lynch,...

Steph Curry isn’t used to missing — though he was never much one for twos.
Peacock has canceled mockumentary Mr. Throwback, NBA superstar Curry’s acting debut (Ok, so he played himself on HBO’s Ballers once) and the first scripted, live-action series produced by his Unanimous Media banner, after just one season. The cancellation is due to a lack of viewership, The Hollywood Reporter is told, not quality.
Mr. Throwback debuted to a pretty strong reception (although THR‘s review contended it “Never quite lives up to Curry’s charm or pedigree.”). The six-episode season one has an 86 percent rating among TV critics on Rotten Tomatoes and is at 80 percent with the audience.

All good stories must come to an end. Peacock has trimmed its original programming, canceling Based on a True Story after two seasons.
Per Deadline, despite earning largely positive reviews from critics, Based on a True Story will not return for a third season on Peacock. Created by Craig Rosenberg, the dark comedy thriller series is a satire of the true crime genre with elements loosely inspired by true events. Both seasons follow married couple Ava and Nathan Bartlett, played by Cuoco and Chris Messina respectively, as they capitalize on America's growing obsession with true crime by launching a podcast with serial killer Matt Pierce (Tom Bateman). The second, and now final, season of eight episodes was released in its entirety on Peacock back in November 2024.

The comedies “Based on a True Story” and “Mr. Throwback” have been canceled at Peacock, Variety has learned exclusively. “Based on a True Story” had debuted its second season in November 2024, while “Mr. Throwback” aired its one and only season at the NBCUniversal streamer in August 2024.
Peacock does not release regular viewership information, so gauging the exact audience of either show is difficult, but both received solid reviews upon their release.
“Based on a True” story starred Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina as a financially struggling couple who decide to start a true crime podcast to investigate whether or not their plumber is in fact a serial killer. The cast also included Tom Bateman, Liana Liberato, and Priscilla Quintana. The show originally premiered in 2023.

Actress Eliza Coupe responded to fans who criticized her appearance at the premiere of the Netflix series The Residence.
On March 19, Coupe, known for her role in the sitcom Happy Endings, posed on the red carpet at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles in a gold sequin dress with a black coat draped over her shoulder. She also wore smokey eye makeup, a black fur coat and black thigh-high boots. Her blonde hair was shaggy and shoulder-length.
Her fans shared their negative reactions to her appearance on the social media platform X. Many claimed that the actress looked “unrecognizable.”
“Most likely, this is a consequence of taking Ozempic; in America, many stars and famous people were placed on it,” one user wrote.

Emmy viewers loved last year's team-up of Eugene Levy and Dan Levy so much, they now want to see another father-son duo host the ceremony.
Poppa's House stars Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. are our readers' top choice to host the 2025 Emmys on CBS. They received a leading 29 percent of fans' votes in Gold Derby's recent poll, a double-digit lead over The Daily Show host Jon Stewart and stand-up comedian John Mulaney, both of whom nabbed 16 percent support.
Wayans Sr. is a four-time Emmy nominee for writing and acting on the seminal sketch-comedy series In Living Color, while Wayans Jr. is still looking for his first Emmy bid. Poppa's House is a freshman hit for CBS and recently earned noms at the American Cinema Editors Guild, the Art Directors Guild, and the NAACP Image Awards.

If you had run into the brothers Joe and Anthony Russo as 20-somethings circa 1994, they probably wouldn’t have seemed like guys who’d become two of the biggest directors of all time. Both were living in their native Cleveland, where Anthony was a law student, and Joe, 17 months his junior, was attending drama school. Neither felt quite satisfied with their chosen path, so they both dropped out and pivoted to filmmaking, maxing out their credit cards to fund their $30,000 debut feature, Pieces, which has never been released but nonetheless caught the eye of a notable mentor, Steven Soderbergh, when it screened at Slamdance in 1997.

The Television Academy has cemented Sept. 14 as the date for the 2025 Emmys (see the updated calendar), so now is the perfect time to start thinking about who'd make the perfect host. And we've got some ideas.
First and foremost, Emmy hosts have to be fun. Likable. Energetic. Great on their feet. And, apparently, father-son duos are in.
Following last year's successful team-up of Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, we'd love to see the tradition continue on with Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. They tick all of the above boxes and — bonus points — are currently headlining the sitcom Poppa's House on CBS, the same network that's broadcasting this year's Emmy Awards. That gives them an inside advantage, as the host almost always has a working relationship with the home network.

I loved Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 1, episode 12, titled "Typhoid Georgie." It had everything that makes great TV. It had emotional output, storylines, character arcs, and comedic deliverance. "Typhoid Georgie" additionally sheds more light on Mandy's attitude toward life improvement.
"Typhoid Georgie" is another episode that depicts Georgie as a well-centered family man with a fierce desire for success, even if it means working with a nasty cold that could inflict anyone who comes near him. However, the reasoning goes deeper than wanting to be a provider with money and his strong work ethic, as it was subconsciously ingrained through someone remarkably close to Georgie.
Mandy finally hit a high note in her broadcasting endeavor, but instead of having a full one-on-one conversation with Georgie about how it could impact their married life, she clearly allows her ego and self-assurance take over. There's noting wrong with having the drive,...

While there is nothing quite as perfect as New Girl, you need something to fill in the void. You’ve rewatched the show a thousand times, and now you want to check out something else.

Not sure where to start to fill the void? Here are five shows like New Girl to watch next.

The NAACP said Thursday that the Wayans family — Keenen Ivory Wayans, Damon Wayans Sr., Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Kim Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. — will be inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame.
The honor will be bestowed February 22 at the 56th NAACP Image Awards, which will air live on BET and CBS from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
“For decades, the Wayans family has been at the forefront of comedy, breaking barriers and opening doors for waves of entertainers,” NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson said. “Their trailblazing work in television, film, and stand-up has transcended pop culture and cemented their legacy in the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame. Recognizing their achievements with this induction is a celebration of a multi-generational legacy that continues to advance and uplift communities. The Wayans family has set a standard of excellence, and their influence resonates far beyond the stage and screen.

When "New Girl" ended in 2018 after seven seasons, it undoubtedly left a hole in people's hearts. Since 2011, people tuned into Fox every week to see what mishaps and misunderstandings Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) and her roommates would get into. There's no shortage of incredible "New Girl" episodes to watch, and if you go back, you may find new things to appreciate. Even if you don't, it's hard to get tired of watching an episode like "Background Check" where everyone's eccentricities are dialed up to 11.
Naturally, you may be ready to fill said heart-hole with something new yet oddly similar. "New Girl" is far from the only sitcom about a group of friends figuring out what to do in life while getting into copious high jinks. Or maybe you want something with a quirky female lead who's prone to burst into song. There can only ever be one "New Girl," but...

Despite hailing from a comedic dynasty with father Damon Wayans — and his siblings Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Wayans, the latter with whom he co-created sketch comedy show In Living Color — Damon Wayans Jr. said he still feels he hasn’t completely clinched his place in show business.
The father-son duo, who are headlining CBS’ new sitcom Poppa’s House, sat down with People to reflect on their family legacy and various programs, including My Wife and Kids, which marked Wayans Jr.’s first TV arc (much to his chagrin at the time).

What, does it become someone’s family heirloom? Also, aren’t there some logic/logistical issues with regards to the Silo 17 vault generating meals for Solo/Jimmy to last 30 years (…and counting)?

High Potential Season 1 Episode 10 Is a Masterclass in Restraint, Forcing Morgan Into Mama Bear Mode
It looks like High Potential is, once again, back to putting the case of Roman’s disappearance on the back burner. This series is amazing, but it’s playing a game of chicken with the audience.
Not that I’m complaining or anything, but a little consistency goes a long way. If you’re anything like this TV Fanatic, you like your loose ends wrapped up nicely in a bow.
High Potential has delivered one amazing episode after another with a cast of incredibly talented actors — not to mention writing that takes audiences on an emotional roller coaster.
(Disney/Carlos Lopez-Calleja)
What more could the executives at ABC need to give a knock-out series like this the go-ahead for another season? Hell, give High Potential a multiple-season renewal.
If for no other reason than for some assurance that we will see some of the hilarious characters introduced in High Potential Season 1 Episode 10 again.

Damon Wayans Jr. was part of the ensemble cast of Happy Endings, and his real-life father, Damon Wayans Sr., had a one-episode guest appearance on the show. Wayans Sr. played Brad’s father, a veteran in town for some medical tests in season 1, episode 5, “Like Father, Like Gun.” From their stilted early interactions to their tender heart-to-heart at the end, the Wayans father and son stole the episode from the Happy Endings' best characters.
