Unfortunately, this confusing trend of giving sequels the same title as preceding films has become common in the 21st Century. A few other examples are the 2008 film Rambo, the 2011 film The Thing (a prequel to the 1982 John Carpenter film The Thing), the 2022 film Scream, and the 2000 Shaft sequel, Shaft, and that film's 2019 sequel, Shaft.

The main reason they do this is because they are part sequel, part remake. Which have been given the title "legacy sequels". The intention being that there is such a large gap between the previous film, it is a continuation of the previous story, with returning characters. But you don't have to have seen the previous films to understand this one.

Canonical Halloween films (going by his scale relative to other actors, locations, and props) put him between six feet and six foot three. A man who is six foot eleven would not be able to avoid detection to anywhere near the extent that the Michael in this film does.

It may also be camera trickery to make him seem bigger. As he would seem gigantic and terrifying to his victims. Despite not actually being that big.

This film doesn't pick up right after the original. It takes place 40 years after. Making this essentially the new "Halloween II".

The relation between Laurie and Michael is introduced in the sequels. In the original, she is just the babysitter who stops his killing spree. Though he seemed to be fixated on her in the original film as well. Likely due to him seeing her approach his abandoned house while he was hiding in it.

As a result, her life is driven off the rails due to her obsession over him, and from the doctor's speech, we can assume it's the same reason Michael wants to find her when he is set free.

Michael Meyers targets young men and women or any adult that gets in his path. He doesn't target children.

Possibly because she's "the one who got away". He specifically targeted her in 1978, but she escaped. So he felt compelled to finish the job.

This film is set 40 years after the original film and ignores all of the previous sequels anc reboots (even 1981's Halloween II and 1998's Halloween H20, both of which starred Jamie Lee Curtis). It begs the question as to how he was apprehended, as we see in the original film, after he's shot by Dr. Loomis, he escapes the scene. But this is answered in this film's sequel, Halloween Kills.
