Don't let these reviews fool you

While it seems there are some folks in the comments wanting nothing more than traditional white casts in a white show they seem to be missing the classic tale of Anne. The new version of Anne is refreshing with its cast full of diversity giving an age old story new light. While some notes were a bit pitchy you would only imagine as much trying to perform after the pandemic shut down Broadway. The casting choices were fantastic! Don't steal this little girls thunder by being blinded by your own ignorance.

Anyone who loves musicals and adores the story of Anne will love this brand new take of a classic. Well done!

Annie Live is DOA

What's not to hate?

Bad singing, bad acting, bad casting, bad sound, bad makeup (a rubber skullcap? Really), and bad directing make this a living horror.

The high notes sounded more like squealing than singing. It's sad to think that people will think of this production as the definitive ANNIE without ever having seen the 1982 film version.

This Annie is way to big and old looking. BLEH.

Dance 10, Looks 3

Aside from some excellent dancers, especially those young girls doing leaps and walk-overs, I didn't think much of this. It felt like a high school production. Did we really need 4 productions of Annie. I'd love for them to do Mame with Cher. Now that would be something to see.

Great Live Performance

Live productions are hard. The imperfections are what make Live theater exciting. When scenes are performed to perfection Live theater sings.

Some reviewers (marci) simply don't understand theater.

Bearded Guy

I highly enjoyed watching the bearded guy show up in almost every scene in a different role. Also this was one of the best live productions that NBC has done.

Alan Toy (Franklin Delano Roosevelt) is the first actor ever cast as Roosevelt in any professional production or filming of this musical to actually be a survivor of polio, which FDR also had. In a statement, Toy said, "It is a huge honor to join such a talented ensemble. FDR has always been a role model of accomplishment for me, and I'm thrilled to be able to play him. I tip my hat to NBC and the producers of 'Annie Live!' for authentically casting a person with a Disability for this role. I'm proud to represent the community and hope that we will continue to see more of the Disability Community in roles across entertainment media."
