I went into this with no expectations and was surprised to find superior animation, fully-fleshed-out characters, good symbiosis with their robots, and truly nasty and difficult-to-defeat monsters. For Kaiju fans, this will be a winner.
The one nagging question I had throughout (and thus the 8 stars instead of better)... where the blazes is the rest of the military? There are no tanks, no fighter planes, no missiles... nothing but a handful of comes-from-nowhere UNARMED alien robots (which have to be armed by the humans) to help the humans fight these giga-monsters from outer space? The lack of any other military is a major flaw here, with no reason whatsoever given for that lack.
The plot and animation are considerably superior to most giant-robot fare, the characters well-developed, and it had both a primary plot and mini-plots within. Each character had their own story, their own hangups, and their own growth through the series. I'm a real stickler when it comes to having a valid plot and story... and was totally satisfied with this series.
I binge-watched the first season (all 9 episodes) in one day and am looking forward to season 2, if there is one. There should be.

Yes, the cons are real:
Otherwise, this is a fun show. While the frame-rate is bad and absolutely needs to be improved, the 3D modeling is good. The world depiction is good. The storytelling is fun and not too cheesy.
You've got all the typical character roles and messages about teamwork, responsibility, expectations, sacrifice, and the like. And while there is war against alien bugs and the typical schemes of humans trying to get there way, there is no humans killing each other, which is always welcomed.
Liking this better than Voltron w/ a 8.1 rating on here.
- The frame-rate can be awful in scenes. There is a cool fight seen early on that is completely ruined by the frame-rate.
- I don't know the source material, but if you're married to it it seems you'll be disappointed.

There isn't enough time to grow attached to the characters. I believe this is more of a fault from Netflix, rather than the writers. Netflix bought too few episodes so the writers had to work around it. Towards the end of the season, our MC says "we're family" to his fellow pilots and while it was a sweet moment, it felt kind of unearned. Why? Because we've barely seen these characters properly interact. In one episode, our MC gets his Robo and one of the pilots is like "he hasn't earned it like the rest of us" and she clearly holds some sort of resentment. By the next episode, they're all chill with each other. This show should be like...twice as long. I enjoyed the cute character interactions but there were too few so their bonds don't feel fully developed. The dynamics between characters who've already known each other is smart and enjoyable but between new ones, that could use work. Aside from that relatively small criticism, I really like the story and animation. The character and monster designs are very aesthetically pleasing and perfectly fit this story. It took an episode before i liked the Robo designs and they steadily grew on me throughout. I think the crew involved has done a good job so i'm excited for the next season. The concepts and execution are done well for the most part so i'd suggest this.

Dialog is very disappointing it feels like the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, character development is also weak, like carrying the weight of the world on a single person i mean its very underwhelming. You dont get the rush in watching i dotn really get connected to the story & i cant get sympathize to any of the characters either there simply so many loopholes in this one this is a complete failure story wise & character building wise. The director/s & producer could have made more of the its time to really galvanize & ties up the story it is so cliche well i dont know if netflix will order the next season.

I watched it only because I wanted to watch an animated movie/series and this came up my feed. Season 1, Episode 1 really tries to sell you what this series is about. With its good animation and mediocre storyline, I decided in its favour. Please note, I have not read the comic that it is based on.
What I liked about the season 1:
What I did NOT like about the season 1:
Verdict: I liked the show overall. I liked how each character is passionate about what they are trying to become. Character development is not best, but I believe it is reasonably good for a kids show. Probably it didn't feel as good as the story felt a little rushed.
I would certainly like to see the season 2.
What I liked about the season 1:
- Overall story is good, with much to be asked from season 2
- Animation is what you would expect from an average anime nowadays
- I liked the emotional weight that they have tried to bring into the story
- I liked the character portrayal of Olivia, felt consistent
What I did NOT like about the season 1:
- Storyline felt like a little rushed
- Much remains to be known on the robots' background

What a great show. I loved the story. The show is targeted towards kids and there are so many great messages for a younger audience: following your dreams, finding acceptance, working together. But I also found some of the parent-child relationship incredibly heartfelt. And the ending!!! A real tear-jerker. I did not see that coming.
I also loved the animation. It's a bit sanitized and clean but again, I imagine that it's for kids (the blood is blue). But it was a really cool mix of 2D and 3D animation. Not as elegant as something like Spider-Verse but it's great to see that style in a TV series.
I love a great mecha genre story and this doesn't dissappoint.

Don't know whats up with the negative reviews but this is a fun show! Short too with only 10 episodes. The pacing, music, story, animation is all on point without any unnecessary drama.
The writers have done a great job developing each of the characters, be it the main leads or support team. The robots are just too adorable.
It works well for kids and adults alike so you can even enjoy it as a family. Those who enjoy transformers and similar movies will probably enjoy it more.
I haven't read the comics or anything but I found this to be a fun and enjoyable watch. Definitely hope for a second season.

Beginning is classic and quite ok premise, 3-4 first parts are really interesting. Character development is good and with fine progress.
Then starts problems, typical like screenwriters got lazy and starts copying all the classic. Internal strugle between one good and one bad / openly idiotic team.
There is zero military anywhere only some alien robots are only one to help defend. Military base but totally empty except first intro part.
Additionally when is problem no one report it, no one coming to help, no one care and all is careless.
Typical general who without any control is doing what ever he want, what was actually forbidden by some "mysterious never shown" superiors.
Animation is ok just as is mentioned in many cases very low FPS.
Teenagers running everything so it's obviously targeted to very young audience.
Not fully wasted time, just even monsters as animation had better structure and military feel than this.
Typical lazy hot mess netflix show. Lot of invested money and very low downspiraling quality on the end.
So from 8/10 at begining it moves to bare 4/10...

But otherwise a disappointingly juvenilise and derivative waste of a strong voice cast. This is essentially a mash up of Gundam, Evangelion and Pacific Rim by way of a 1980s Saturday morning kid's cartoon, with bizarrely stunted proportions, eerily incompetent animation, and low frame-rates that seem to be all keyframes and no tweening.
There's no real plot, characterisation, or drama here, just an absolutely basic presentation of Deus Ex Astra mechs who choose teen pilots (for no reason, since they don't need pilots) versus giant space bugs, with a plucky underdog wish fulfilment motif.
For those easily confused, stereotypes may be recognisable and even satisfying but that doesn't mean they're well conceived, original, or developed. And dialogue composed of little more than straight exposition of ultimately selfish and egotistical desires is not growth.
That's all you get, and it's fine for what it is, but Netflix should have been clearer in the marketing and synopsis. The 10-star review-bombing at the moment of release to get the initial numbers up was embarrassingly obvious.

I enjoyed this show even as an adult for something that you can just switch off and enjoy without thinking to hard about it the animation was amazingly done the storyline was good for what it was. I feel that this show is all in all a great animation for families to sit down and enjoy the animation was quite fluent and edited well as for the storyline i never read the comic but for what it was the storyline was well suited for the tv show adaption in my opinion and the storylines will always be different from the original source material to give it a new spin otherwise there would be no point.

What can i say, absolutely brilliant. Cant wait for season 2. Great voice acting, amazing story and superb animation. Love the way the robots want to be part of the human race but the story doesn't give away too much on the robots past and where they were originally from. The alien's attacking the earth are seemingly very intelligent and also having a backstory which the writers clearly dont want to give away to much. I wont give away any spoilers but the ending definitely has a big opening story for the next installment. Netflix if your reading these reviews, seriously give it another series.

The story is fine, nothing spectacular and it seems inspired from Ender's Games, Transformers and other Mech series without anything original. But this would be fine if it was well done.
However, the animation itself is just awful (like garbage awful). So much so I suspect it is 100% AI generated with minimal human intervention for cost purposes. The frame rate is headache inducing, and then, once you notice a few issues common with AI-images (fingers for example) it becomes the pet peeve you struggle to unsee and makes you squirm with horror each and every time.
It really is a shame. While there is nothing new in the plot and there are glaring plot hole all other the place, it is not "bad" per say. Defo something I would watch with my kids, but 5 min in and they were so turn off by the frame rate that they walked away.
I am pretty sure I have the standard model of teenagers at home, and they really are all about that 60fps in gaming, and my daughter is a studio Ghibli far. I had to explain this was not "a bad CGI from when I was young and it was really bad"
I feel this is the route Netflix is taking with a lot of their offering nowadays: cheap, cheap and cheaper.

They took so little from the source material that they might as well give it a new name.
Everything has been dumbed down from the comic. The robo mechs are completely different, I guess to make them look more new and cute? The frame rate is so bad... Movement is this weird chunky mess..
Let's talk about Frank? Frank in the show, the guy with one leg, he doesn't show up in the first 12 episodes. In the comic he is the cousin of Frank, who happens to have the same name. One being Francis, the other being Franklin. Did they mean to switch them because one of the two Frank's is awesome, while the other is the main character? Did they get notes from the comic writer, and just not bother reading them? Hard to say. I could see both being true.
Maybe let your children watch if they really want. But the comic is much better.

"Mech Cadets" is not the generic kids show it may resemble at first glance. Theirs is a world ravaged by loss at the claws of the Shargs and the show refuses to shy away from presenting those elements, instead using them to strengthen each characters story and provide meaningful motivations for those characters' actions. Mech Cadets also does well at integrating an animation style that doesn't feel childish and, despite some choppiness in frame rate , possesses laudable detail (especially in regard to its mechs and Kaiju) and vibrant special effects. Vaguities such as the absence of a more dominant and numerous military defense do plague the narrative, but are likely to be overlooked in favor of the raw emotional force of the voice actors' character portrayals and the story itself. Its world-building lends hope for further exploration as there are numerous questions, especially regarding the mysterious Robos and the menace they face, pleading for answers.
In Short: "Mech Cadets" is surprisingly emotional, suitable for any audience, contains detailed animation with high quality effects, open world-building, and most (perhaps even all) plot weaknesses are easy to dismiss in favor of the shows powerful storytelling.

If you're a fan of animation, this is the show for you. It has ridiculously high quality models for a series (I can't imagine what a movie quality version would look like) and the artistic direction is amazing. It's stylized with 2.5D elements that you only really see in movies, has altered framerates for certain scenes that really give motions a certain punch, and the facial animation of the characters is awesome. Each design feels unique compared to one another and the cast is incredibly diverse both ethnically/racially but also with really good representation of an amputee. The voice actors are great and highly expressive (although some lines were definitely a little "adults try to write teens", but it was minor).
As for plot, it was obviously inspired by other mech shows (Voltron, Gundam, Pacific Rim, etc) both story and design wise, but it managed to combine each "stolen" idea in a way that made it feel really unique to itself. There are a few really impactful plot twists that make you want to go back and look for the foreshadowing and the cliff hanger makes me really want to see more.
Overall, I sincerely hope this show goes on to tell its full story as it has amazing potential.

I just finished the whole season one and man that was awesome!! Not what I Expected and I loved it. The animation and artwork was excellent. The story was really good and intriguing. Especially when they got Aliens in the story, can't go wrong with that. I love the idea that these mech aliens come to planet Earth to help defend and bonds with Humans is pretty cool. I've been a fan of mechs since the days of Robotech era which were in the 80's, the anime is a bit of old and new school such movies as Pacific Rim. I'm hoping Netflix will renew season 2 as I'm eagerly waiting for it. I definitely recommend watching this especially if you are a mech fan.

Comparisons - pacific rim franchise, gen:lock with a hint of starship troopers/ transformers prime (from what i've seen).
Yes the frame rate is painfully low which is a real shame that it kills some of the intensity of the fights. Otherwise impressive to see, with good music and sound effects.
Story blends the aforementioned shows with an easy to follow kids in mechs vs giant crab like aliens war.
Each episode is 20ish mins, that have enough going on to keep invested, with no filler. The finale of season is a cliff hanger but no word on season 2 yet.
Aimed more at a younger audience but some fans of the genre might find things to like !

Great animation and plot line, though relatively predictable. I've a particular soft spot for the representation of an amputee character and strong females. Family tensions and secret government plans create a backdrop for monster (Shargs) battles, so there is always something going on. It's video game cut scene awesomeness.

There was Pacific Rim in 2013. Then the teen version, Pacific Rim: Uprising in 2018, then the tween version, Pacific Rim: The Black in 2021. This is very much like a successor in all but name. The difference here is that the robots can fly.
The fact that it's for kids is established in the opening scene, where the main character, who looks like he is 13, rides his motorcycle through the desert, making impossible jumps hundreds of feet in the air.
It's never explained why these sentient robots even need pilots, or more importantly, why the pilots are mostly kids?? They don't look old enough to drive, much less old enough to pilot flying machines with powerful weapons, tasked with defending the Earth from aliens.
But it is a kids show, so I guess that's why. Still, so much is unexplained. Where is the rest of the military? This series is really inconsistent. In one scene, a kid steals a military uniform, and security along with security robots show up right on the spot. In another scene, some monsters inside the base attack some kids and there's no one else to be found. In yet another scene, the base is under attack from outside, and only a handful are available to defend the wall - including the cleaning lady!
So it doesn't make a lot of sense. If you can get past that, it's enjoyable. The animation is superb. The characters are likeable enough. The villains are interesting, and the pace is good. You'll either love it or hate it.

Sure! Here's the English translation of your review:
---
At first, the story was good, but as time went on, it became boring and predictable. My eyes hurt from the constant FPS drops in the animation, and where are the civilians and the military? They only appear at the beginning... and even then, just a few. There are many shortcomings in this film, especially in the animation quality. Most importantly, the FPS - I don't know the exact drop, but I'm sure it's below 24. I even had to watch the film at 1.25x speed.
Overall, this film only focuses on the same few characters. The lack of interaction with the civilians also makes the film feel empty. And the general? Not even worthy of being called a general - lmao.
